I use to binge-watch concert videos by various outstanding artists. Sometimes I think: “Well, this was somehow subpar“, either performance-wise or - more often - due to bad recording/mixing. However, none of hundreds of Hiromi videos ever disappointed me. She is always perfect, energetic, and cute. ❤
@@NashleyC i cry on this since over 10 years. no matter if its old castle by the river, if... , love and laughter, wind song, delusion, indulgence ... EVERY TIME! im a happy man!
jazz is so much more than simply the theory behind it, jazz is the epitome of musical expression and emotion, when you play jazz, honestly, you play life
Hiromi is an incredibly gifted piano player. I just love to watch her play and put her heart into every note she plays. The musicians in her band are awesome too. I wish there was a radio station in California that played her music since her songs are far superior to anything on the radio these days. I have to go see her whenever she comes to play in the San Francisco Bay Area again. :)
I always come back to this tune. It is actually one of the first performances I saw of Hiromi that got me hooked. Few things come close to the level of virtuosic talent and explosive musicality on display here. Particularly the interplay between her and Dave Fuze here is some of the best I've ever heard. It's a musical climax on every front.
Yaritza Rivera I don't really believe in such a thing as a music expert. Music makes you feel however it makes you feel. Music is music and every once in a while when somebody creates something like this it transcends definition.
I heard that man, I can't count the times I've spent listening to any number of specific parts of this song. Everything put together creates something so much greater than their individual parts, its hard if not impossible for me to put into words. Thats what I love so much about great music.
This video shows clearly the most beautiful thing about being a musician - the ability to feel the music and to share the feeling with others. These people clearly enjoy playing together and the result is this awesome masterpiece. I'd have loved to be there and feel their excitement myself. Bravo!
I know this is a late response (years later), I’ve seen Hiromi perform twice when she’s toured the U.S. BUT let me tell you that I when I saw her perform THIS song and her other songs from her CD “TIME CONTROL” on stage LIVE and you can FEEL every part of this music go through your body! It was crazy!!!!! Like God was in the room, because you knew that this kind of talent, gift, musicianship was from Him and through her amazing vessel on that piano and also through the other musicians. I was in the front row and felt like I needed a SEATBELT on because it was emotionally, spiritually, mentally and even physically ELECTRIFYING!!!!!! BRAVO to Hiromi and her band!!!
Amazing. I always get goosebumps at around 4:48... it almost feels like a cathartic release of pure emotions when she plays that line. This is what music is all about...
Gosh, this was such an amazing watch. Fuze's final solo was so aggressive and uplifting! The melody is absolutely beautiful, especially when taken over by Grey (as a bassist I am totally biased to stellar bass playing). Heavy groove and melody all around!
All is beautiful, in particular one of the greatest guitar solos I heard in all of my life. Spiritual experience!!! And seeing the connection and the joy durang the finale. Each time I watch it, I am flabbergasted.
It's a pity, that she still doesn't play with these best musicians, best fitting with her (in my ears), and her drummer *Martin Valihora* seems to be the best, she'd ever got. :o)
The first time I was blasted by this song I was driving in the countryside with my daughter and wife. I drove them crazy because I played it like 10 times in a raw.
4:40 is an amazing moment, but the one where I really felt the pull from the song was at exactly 7:55, when David's whole body appears to be riding the wave of the song. Somehow, though its no surprise, you get pulled into the ocean too. And when you look around you find the whole band riding the waves with their respective instruments, just taking the ocean on. And just as you lose hope and begin to think yourself drowning, you find yourself riding them too, on appreciation.
WOWOWOWOWOW So great!!! This makes me sad that I never committed myself to my instrument. Though I'm still just a young man, I don't think I'll ever get to experience what they get to!! It must be amazing
@ehelwagen the whole band is great and they all are very into their music. i can honestly say this is one of the best songs i have ever heard. the drummer has the ghost notes down pack (i am a drummer)......and the whole band is just AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (and that putting it lightly) great job
There was a time in 2009/2010 when i was physically affected by my longing to hear this piece. (Because of my iphone/ipod draining.) Before i arrive home to charge, i remember that kind of addiction to this tune that i haven’t experienced throughout my life except for Rach3!
Wow, fantastic musicians...a very clear influence for this tune is Sunbird by Gordon Beck and Allan Holdsworth, but she manages to throw in a bit of Keith Jarrett and is that Liszt? for good measure.
I am going to have to concede that, having now watched some of her other performances and interviews she is improvising...I guess I just couldn't believe it straight away! One thing I would say, though, is that impressive as her pastiche of other player's improvising styles-Jarrett for example, is, that is most useful as a way towards developing your own voice. Having said that, I probably didn't have a right to say anything at all- she is way out of my league as a musician full stop..
Hiromi is of course an absolute virtuoso, but the solo Fuze pulled off in the latter part of this piece is just insane.
yea of course with hiromi, valihora on drums n this bass backing up ... holy fuck

This song never gets old.... never have i heard a piece of music that continuously makes me feel like this!
yea i also commented this 14 years ago. and it STILL makes me feel like this. only she does this to me.
ONE OF THE MOST TALENTED PEOPLE IN THE UNIVERSE
Who else is in her stratosphere? Both as a technical player, and a composer. Prince is the only comparable, and he's gone.
@Christopher "I'm wondering if you still think this, 4 years later" a fact doesnt change.
@@aquamarine99911 emmet cohen is the only one close to her that i know.

I cried the first time I heard this song in 2013. You don't have to be a music expert to feel the emotions of this piece. Truly AMAZING.

hiromi totally feels the music, never watching the keys.her and the band have a beautiful chemistry together...AWESOME!!!!!!!!
Simply AMAZING!! Not enough superlatives to describe this wonderful performance by Hiromi and her band. I remain in AWE!

Hiromi is simply a genius & virtuoso. Her polyrhythmic interdependence between both hands is other worldly!
This music is beyond beautiful...... I love it. I would love to hear this in person...

@brigittebarrow7491 what a beautiful experience 😍 I am truly happy for you that you got to experience such talent in person!!!!! Wow.... Just wow
The most melodious tune i have heard. Composer of The century !!!!!!
Even the bass solo is emotional, inspirational is an understatement
Truly the best musicians we have in our time, all four of them. Beautiful bass solo.
Amazing. I always get goosebumps at around 4:48... it almost feels like a cathartic release of pure emotions when she plays that line. This is what music is all about...
Not only her, every one on that stage is ridiculously awesome
Gosh, this was such an amazing watch. Fuze's final solo was so aggressive and uplifting! The melody is absolutely beautiful, especially when taken over by Grey (as a bassist I am totally biased to stellar bass playing). Heavy groove and melody all around!
As you may or may not know, Tony Grey is the great John McLaughlin's nephew.
Grey is so damn good

What a song, what a performance, man!! So emotional. I'm deeply touched.

love the way she smiles the WHOLE way through!!
