How often do you do the grocery shopping and how much on average do you spend?

Hi Sean, I shop at aldi, maybe it doesn't have luxury goods, although you can be surprised at the different and odd things that they sell.
My shopping for a single person per week is around £20, . I have very small garden now, but I do grow as much as I can.
I have, Raspberry bushes, strawberry plants, a gooseberry, rhubarb. Also two small apple trees, a plum, and cultivated Blackberry along my fence.
Here in Rhyl, we have a problem with majestic weed, (not sure if I have spelt it correctly) nothing seems to kill it , I just pull it out as it grows, Have you any ideas about getting rid of it.
I have also a very small greenhouse in which I grow Sungold Tomatoes 🍅. They are really sweet, lovely to eat just off the plant.
Thank you for your really helpful and professional videos, I am one of your newest fans. I look forward to each one, am looking forward to the spring planting.😊

A very interesting video and as usual with you, very well presented.
Just hope my wife doesn't see it, or we'll be heading to Waitrose in future, which is miles away. Our local is Sainsbury's which seems OK too

I tend to shop when I need it,rather than a regular day.. One tip is that frozen Spinach is far more economical than fresh , ( Jamie Oliver a piece about it ), so you could use your plot for other veg. I buy the frozen stuff and it goes a long way . .The bread looked nice , might have to try that one .. .Nice video Sean.

We do our shopping for 3 people once a week. We grow our own vegetables and herbs. We also have chickens for organic eggs (the chickens are fed organic feed). We spend about €90 per week on groceries. As many fresh, organic and high-quality products as possible. We avoid anything with palm fat and palm oil. We don't eat anything from packets and bags. Once every two months we buy meat for €100 from an Islamic butcher. In our opinion, we would rather cut back on healthcare costs than on food.

I like to shop for groceries on a Thursday morning, usually weekly,, always with a list and budget in mind. a big shop once a month and just usually milk and fresh salad stuff and fruit or bread age rest of the time. I make good use of my freezer, and farmers markets when they are running. As I am on a fixed income, I really must stick to a very tight budget so everything is recorded snd tracked.. You are lucky to be able to have a great allotment and age ability to grow what you want and preserve it.

The cost isn't bad to me. I think you can honestly get twenty days out of that haul. Go for it.
By the way, I do one grocery shopping at the start of each month and one smaller one in about week three. For example I'm about to start getting together a list for October's second shopping. You reminded me I need butter, thanks!

I spend about 60 squid a week. I do not eat out. I bake my own flax bread (very filling) and cook most things from scratch. I get an Internet shop and some things extra for the weekend such as organic meat, nitrate free charcuterie, a quantity of keto stuff that I share. So I guess I shop twice a week at least. I try to grow my own but have found that people nick my stuff so it's not that productive. I watch Zoe podcasts. They are experts on the gut microbiome. Do you like kefir? If you are low carb but not keto, organic kefir is suitable and supposed to be one of the best things. Possibly you could make your own even. I like kombucha but no idea if it is good for you.

Kefir is definitely good for your gut. Three years ago I use to make water kefir , I got surplus grains given by a freecycler so no cost in buying them. But these days I make milk kefir only . I also make my own Almond and oat milk. It saves at least £5 a week for two people. Plus no additives are involved in making the milks. The pulp is also utilised by incorporating it in the dough for bread or chappatis thus making is low carb. Yes it does involve your time in keeping the supply going.

I use big freezers, can, dehydrate alot of our own produce. I purchased 2 hogs, 1 cow, 12+ chickens, 12 rabbits, lots of ground bison and couple lamb from a farm that raises and butchers their stock in humane and organic way. that will last us at least 2 years and i dont buy any meat. I grow gooseberries, currants, raspberries, strawberries, blackberries i make jams or freeze them. I go to local orchards and get bushels of apples for processing, pears to make Perry. Peaches and blueberries come from fruit delivery trucks seasonally and frozen for future use. We just put in big glasshouse to grow greens, herbs ect thru the winter. I am an opportunist shopper if i come across and good bulk deal ill stock up. I can easily probably not shop at all for the next 6 to 12 months for anything. I have chickens for eggs and buy powdered milk, butter. Bulk sugar, salt and raw coffee beans to roast ourselves. Bulk ancient grains and wheat to mill as i go for bread. I really only spend money on odds and ends for my recipes for something out of the ordinary. I buy bulk organic as it tends to be more affordable that way

Hi, Sean! It's interesting for this American to see the items/packaging/pricing in the UK, thanks for sharing. I love a good grocery shopping haul! As for growing spinach, I had only 8 plants and they gave me enough for daily meals with spinach.
May I ask, in the future, can you please put the prices (or any other numbers/words) at the top of the screen, centered or to the left or right? I couldn't see most of the prices you put at the center bottom of the screen due to my use of closed captioning. Thanks!
I've visited the UK many times and the groceries there, and even the pre-prepared stuff, are so much healthier than the stuff sold in the US. We are a country of high-fructose corn syrup. 😞

Two old people, five cats=$60 (CDN)/week on average. We have 2 rabbits producing manure for the garden, and around 20 chickens, some for meat, some for eggs, and a decent garden, including greenhouse and fruit trees, grape vines, etc. I lost a lot of weight when it was discovered that I was allergic to dairy, not just lactose intolerant. So I cut that out of my diet. Can't handle bananas either, not even organic. The weight has stayed off as well and I feel pretty good, except when I see all the commercials for delicious chocolates.

I am so glad you changed to whole milk. I used to work with lovely cows and feel insulted on their behalf when the goodness from their milk is extracted and the watery residue is sold to people who think it is doing them good. You had a nice selection of food in your bags,, my 2 dogs add considerably to my shopping costs 🙂

Great video Sean - you are on the right path. Eat good quality food, don't eat fake foods like margarine and ready meals - they are full of chemicals, colourings, additives and things which are bad for you.
Cranks bread - you're right - that's how bread was until the modern factory era - way better for you and you need less to fill you up. Two good eggs on toast made with Cranks is a wonderful breakfast or lunch.

In re: chronic fatigue: see if your doctor will order tests for testosterone and thyroid. I lost many years of my life due to low thyroid.
I keep forgetting to buy butter too. Canadian butter is sh*te. I go to the deli because they have Polish and Lithuanian butter. Thrice the
price, ten times better. We can't get Irish butter.
'foreign butter earns a whopping 298 per cent tariff when it enters this country'
You know when something is not made really well in country that they are so afraid we will all of us buy the imports, they put on enormous tariffs. Super protectionist. It would make more sense if the dairies here would just make better butter. They leave way too much water in the butter so when it melts in the pan it's spitting all over the place. The flavour is also lacking.

Glad you gave up the skimmed & low fat versions of food. They make you fat. Fat does not make you fat. Only carbs, (esp bread ,potatoes & sugar) make you fat. Organic veg means nearly 50% higher polythenols.
An artificially fertilised plant showered in pesticides & herbicides does not need to produce any high level natural defence mechanisms (polythenols) and grows large & plump in an instance. With little nutritional value. Whereas organic or home grown produce Is basically the opposite of this!
