Just to show my gratitude towards this speed runner, it is unbelievable to watch this again after 9 years, he actually put me into the speed runner world. And it is actually funny to see that i have improve as much as to be better that him. Something that i was actually dreaming for when i was a child. Thanks for one of the first if not the first speed runner that promoted this amazing game, "super metroid" as an spectacular speed run game
When TH-cam releases in 2005 I always watch any video games on the TH-cam channel. Then I wanted to watch some video games speed run. At the time I didn't even know what a speed run was until I watch them like super mario, star fox, legend of zelda, etc. Super Metroid was one of the few first video (your video) I watch in speed run and I'm very surprised this this video. Just remember that even though other players who surpass your speed run record for over a decade you still a champion of Super Metroid speed run on my book of the 2006 and don't you forget buddy! ;)
Not productive in what sense? Games are scientifically proven to improve cognitive functions, especially these kind of thinker/fast action ones. Reflexes get better, logical thinking gets better. These can be applied to a lot of other things in life. So while perhaps the game itself is not productive directly towards something, since it is, entertainment or if you will, non work, it can lead to productivity.
This video was my first exposure to Super Metroid waaay back when I was a kid. I'm glad to have found it again after all this time. Thanks for the memories, dude.
Watching Zoast's 41:58 WR and then this is painful. Still, this video is what got me into running Super Metroid so I'll always have a special place for it in my heart.
i first saw super metroid in 1997 at a game shop, but it was too expensive and my parents didn't get it for me..now 15 years later i bought it and beat it just 5 minutes ago and i just want to say - what a spectacular game...flawless..from start to finish.it took me 8 and a half hours on my first playthrough and i loved every second of it.even after all these years it hasn't aged one bit.no wonder it headlines so many top 10 lists for the SNES - the best console ever,
I love the following: How he jumps to the entrance to krane's hideout before you are supposed to. How he doesn't have time to even watch krane die before skipping to the next part. How he rolly-balls below the rocks before the lava comes up. How after getting the speed boost, he showcases how you can run as the rolly-ball. The way he uses speed boost and the shoulder charge into a door, so that it will continue to the next room to make him speed all the way across the next room as well.
One of the few games that has infinite replayability. The non-linear construct, immersive stages, and intriguing story make it not only the best game of its series, but, one of the best of all-time.
Thank you for showing this. This is a real treat for me. I never played this before and i'm currently playing metroid prime. this makes a better understanding of the game. thanks again.
this is STILL one of the best games ever made, even held to today's generation of jacked up graphics & million-dollar budgets. this game's ability to project so much emotion to the player with written text only at the beginning & end is something that takes true talent. rarely do games today display the amount of polish & subtlety.
Ok, I've never played this game, nor the original 8bit Metroid, but just watching this speed run was like watching an animated movie with no dialogue. Very awesome. Amazing game play!
Whoever designed Super Metroid's layout was a genius. I swear they intentionally made it so you can play through as a casual OR try to find a thousand secretly implemented ways to sequence break. Genius.
The environments in this game are amazing and are a huge part of what gives it it's charm. Whenever I think about this game, I think of Meridia, Brinstar, Norfair, etc. and I get nostalgic as fuck.
this is my ALL TIME favorite game. I am a big fan of newer games like Halo and COD but this game STILL wins over everything. By far. I've beaten it well over 300 times in my life and I still can't get enough of it. I'm sure 70% of gamers agree with me
As a kid I never got super metroid, I played it properly for the first time yesterday and frankly I am saddened because I missed this gem of a game, I think it's taken me about 3-4 hours ish to get just past the underwater segment and on my way to Ridley, I say Kudos to you man for getting it does so quickly, evidently you know the game inside out ^^
Thanks to me watching this before I got this game, I was able to throw a few curve balls at the game layout. For instance: Wave Beam, the Speed Booster, and Ice Beam...got it all early and the same sneaky way this guy did! Thanks for this video man! I am glad to have found this! :)
That's a technique called the "Mockball" google it. It allows you to move faster than usual as the morphingball so you can collect some items earlier than usual.
This was my favorite game to play everyday as a kid growing up. the perfect music combined with the gameplay really sucks you into that world and nothing else matters.. LOVE IT!
hands down the most freaky game in my recollection, i played atari when i was in diapers. this is more psycologically disturbing than doom. it is best to play this on a rainy day. thanks for posting it brought back good memories.
Great play by host. There's something about this game, it doesn't need better graphics or to even be re-done. To my it's undoubtedly one of my all-time favorites, along side Castlevania SOTN and FFVII.
I remember this game took my entire childhood to play. This was before we learned to look everything up on the internet, like youtube. If you wanted to know all those secret paths, you had to figure that out on your own.
This game gave me the creeps when I first saw, but after a while later I finally grew some balls and played it, man I couldn't believe what I was missing
Shhhhhh MAESTRO !!!!!!! .............. cosas que no sabia que se podían hacer, de lujo este vídeo, tantos años y aun encuentras cosas nuevas en este GRAN GRAN JUEGO !!!!!!! ........SAMUS ARAN vive por siempre !!!!!........saludos .......
man, the guy playing is really really talented at this game.. and i love how he makes some mistakes aswell showing that he is just human. kickass speed run! death to TAS!
@Lao615 it's called "Hyper beam" btw: Samus was very sad, when the Metroid (the last one) died. It was practically her child. It saw a mother in her which is the reason, it tried to kill the motherbrain when samus was in danger. It does attack samus at one time, but that's because it mistaken samus for an enemy. After recognizing that, the metroid leaves samus at life (with 1 HP) and flys away with shame.
I tried to beat this in 94 drawing my own maps on grid paper and gave up in about a week, in 2006 I printed up a walkthrough from gamefaqs and finally beat the game getting all items, probably my favorite game of all time.
Shinobi 3 is more easy to understand at first. Super Metroid is harder to get from the beginning, but once you do get it, it's one of the most amazing gaming experiences, period.
this is still the legend for me, a lot of those moves i can do but a lot also he does that are a mystery! and this can be watched like a movie! short enough and long enough!
I Love This Game. Is the best one SNES Game, for my opinion, and my Favorite. Greetings for all the people who loves the classic ones. Scary sounds, awesome chapters, a fantastic history, what an amazing game!
used to play this game with my uncle as a child. My mom threw my snes away from playing this game too much. then my uncle bought another one for me haha. oh the memories.
Most atmospheric game I've ever played...every section of the planet and it's music had it's own unique feel to it: Crateria:A Rocky Crevice Upper Brinstar: A Jungle Red Brinstar: A Basin Upper Norfair: A Volcano Wrecked Ship: A Haunted Ship (duh) Rocky Maridia: A Reef Sandy Maridia: The Ocean Floor Lower Norfair: A Temple Tourian: A Laboratory
Wow, watching this almost brings a tear to my eye :*) I remember getting smoked out by myself and playing this till 4-5 in the morning some nights. Had to be at work at 8:00am but didn't give a shit!...played and beat all the primes too... loved em'
@EDGamesForums Bearing this in mind, you are now on your way to enjoying the richness of video game simulation from the unrivaled comfort of your very own computer! Good day, and happy gaming!
Wow. I think I just found one of the earliest speedruns on You Tube. That this video still exists is simply amazing.
TheSorrel epic. simply epic
Bought this game in December 1994 for £14 brand new for my birthday. Best purchase ever. Best game ever I'm 33 and I keep coming back!
Just to show my gratitude towards this speed runner, it is unbelievable to watch this again after 9 years, he actually put me into the speed runner world.

This was amazing...even 12 years later.
One does not simply play through Super metroid just once...
best game ever made
LOVVVVED this game
Smokey if your reading this, your run helped me complete the game.
thank you
I'm glad i've managed to find this run after many years. This is one of the first speedruns that i've ever watched.

25:40 was one of my favorite parts of the game. Really made you feel great to get to this part for the first time back in the day.
This video was my first exposure to Super Metroid waaay back when I was a kid. I'm glad to have found it again after all this time. Thanks for the memories, dude.

cant believe this is still up. the video that got me into metroid!

this guy is absolutely unbelievable. you now have more respect from me that any gamer in history
Thank you for showing this. This is a real treat for me. I never played this before and i'm currently playing metroid prime. this makes a better understanding of the game. thanks again.
Seeing the ruins of stages that were in the original Metroid is a nice touch. Great way to establish continuity.
this is STILL one of the best games ever made, even held to today's generation of jacked up graphics & million-dollar budgets. this game's ability to project so much emotion to the player with written text only at the beginning & end is something that takes true talent. rarely do games today display the amount of polish & subtlety.
Loving this since I was 5. It's been quite some time... I just hope my children get to play and like this.
This game music really freaked me out when I was young but I loved it and it's a pleasure to hear it again !
One of the best experiences in my life. Music and sound effects are awesome!
Genius.
this may be the oldest recorded super metroid speed run that still exists. awesome to watch even if it was long ago obsoleted.
Your desire for his perfection keeps you at the edge of your seat.
great effect when the intro stage leans to the side while exploding. man i loved the 16-bit era.
Omg this was my favorite childhood game I would play it all the time never got tired of it
The environments in this game are amazing and are a huge part of what gives it it's charm. Whenever I think about this game, I think of Meridia, Brinstar, Norfair, etc. and I get nostalgic as fuck.
This is a masterpiece of gaming, since it is from someone who truly mastered a game.
this is my ALL TIME favorite game. I am a big fan of newer games like Halo and COD but this game STILL wins over everything. By far. I've beaten it well over 300 times in my life and I still can't get enough of it. I'm sure 70% of gamers agree with me
Its actually my favorite game of all time, I go back and play this, castlevania, SOTN, super ghouls and ghosts a few times a year for some nostalgia.
As a kid I never got super metroid, I played it properly for the first time yesterday and frankly I am saddened because I missed this gem of a game, I think it's taken me about 3-4 hours ish to get just past the underwater segment and on my way to Ridley, I say Kudos to you man for getting it does so quickly, evidently you know the game inside out ^^
You can really tell that this video was uploaded in 2006. But seriously this was awesome.
I thought I was good with a run time of 45 min back in the day. My hats off to you.
Undoubtably one of the best speedruns i have witnessed!
I remember this like it was yesterday. This game was a true space excursion.
I watched the entire thing. Thank you for bringing back memories of my favorite game.
Thanks to me watching this before I got this game, I was able to throw a few curve balls at the game layout. For instance: Wave Beam, the Speed Booster, and Ice Beam...got it all early and the same sneaky way this guy did! Thanks for this video man! I am glad to have found this! :)
Man, even after 15 or so years, that self destruct alarm still gives me goosebumps...
If this game didn't exist, I don't think my childhood would be worth reminiscing.
this game was my childhood!! thanks for posting the super long vid!
Incredible moves! That is the way I always wanted to play Super Metroid. Thanx for uploading!
man, samus is amazing! it's like she knew exactly where to go and where all the enemies were
That's a technique called the "Mockball" google it. It allows you to move faster than usual as the morphingball so you can collect some items earlier than usual.

I can do some vanilla sequence breaks on this game, but this... this is true mastery. Despite so much practice I cannot mockball for the life of me.
This is the god of all metroid games, it's a shame that the newer generation of gamer's won't respect it as much as the old generation of gamers
Great play by host. There's something about this game, it doesn't need better graphics or to even be re-done. To my it's undoubtedly one of my all-time favorites, along side Castlevania SOTN and FFVII.
i just finished watching this from start to finish... THIS WAS AWESOME
this game was scary to me back then.. and i still love the music of the stages. has that scary feel to it
I can watch this over and over.
I remember this game took my entire childhood to play. This was before we learned to look everything up on the internet, like youtube. If you wanted to know all those secret paths, you had to figure that out on your own.

that was brilliant sir...took me a helluva long ass time to finish. Can't wait for the new game to come out
Nice to see a "normal" speed run I stead of TAS speed runs. This my friends is what a great player can do without all the tool assistance.
Great vid!
I never actually beat Super Metroid "properly" for quite a while because I used this video as a walkthrough before knowing what a speedrun was.
metroid fusion was the reason i loved metroid, this game sealed the deal
Shinobi 3 is more easy to understand at first. Super Metroid is harder to get from the beginning, but once you do get it, it's one of the most amazing gaming experiences, period.
This video is 11 years old and still is a faster speed run than I could have got
this is still the legend for me, a lot of those moves i can do but a lot also he does that are a mystery! and this can be watched like a movie! short enough and long enough!
Samus went to planet Zebes, and blew the whole planet up in an hour. THATS how badass she is
Amazing job
A testament to a games longevity when a "Speed Run" takes an hour XD
I Love This Game.
Is the best one SNES Game, for my opinion, and my Favorite.
Greetings for all the people who loves the classic ones.
Scary sounds, awesome chapters, a fantastic history, what an amazing game!
Watched all the way to end. I have now seen how its done right. Liked
At 0:38:33 he goes into the room to the left just to go back and get a sninespark. And the walljumping is just insane!
easily one of the best snes games ever, hell one of my fav all time games!
This game used to give me nightmares :P The sound direction is fantastic.
I have this game boxed with the manual, and i'm bloddy happy about that!
This game as an outstanding ambiance! Great speedrun by the way!
I must really say I like the music, it sometimes has some kind of ambient dark touch to it, very nice :)
used to play this game with my uncle as a child. My mom threw my snes away from playing this game too much. then my uncle bought another one for me haha. oh the memories.
This game will be released for the Wii U virtual console soon for just 30 cents! Can't wait to play it!
This is a whole other level of gameplay.
This is definitely one of my all tiem favorite games. right next to the mass effects.
This is one fudged up planet. Thank goodness it blew up.
My fave game of all time and will never change!!
This was the best looking game ever. It's just so trippy and strange looking.
Most atmospheric game I've ever played...every section of the planet and it's music had it's own unique feel to it:
Crateria:A Rocky Crevice
Upper Brinstar: A Jungle
Red Brinstar: A Basin
Upper Norfair: A Volcano
Wrecked Ship: A Haunted Ship (duh)
Rocky Maridia: A Reef
Sandy Maridia: The Ocean Floor
Lower Norfair: A Temple
Tourian: A Laboratory
@NoisySerg That my friend, is an excellent guess. And for the people wondering, this is not tool assisted. The tool assisted run is much crazier...
This is a great play through... It really reminds me of when I was 13 years old doing these same things, well sort of the same things lol...
Wow, watching this almost brings a tear to my eye :*) I remember getting smoked out by myself and playing this till 4-5 in the morning some nights. Had to be at work at 8:00am but didn't give a shit!...played and beat all the primes too... loved em'
this man is a god it would take me a month to get to his 20 min mark
Can't wait to see your speed run of Other M.
3:22 - 3:28 That sound to this day is badass.
ahhhhhhh good old days i love this game.
A very good speedrun i think the best game ever seen on snes
The fact that Kraid was beaten in no time at all blows my mind.
Fantastic job. Thank you Luke Harris.
You have sinned against all things Metroid... you didn't pick up the Screw Attack!
Man you did your thang! Great Job took me mouths and plenty of re starts!
@EDGamesForums Bearing this in mind, you are now on your way to enjoying the richness of video game simulation from the unrivaled comfort of your very own computer! Good day, and happy gaming!
