10:28 Great Advise "Just buy one and have some fun with it" Just bought $149.99 on sale Musicians Friend. Purchased for inexpensive light weight guitar to remove neck and put in checked suitcase for over seas flights. All she needed was a few fret ends smoothed, and polished the frets. I am blown away as to how nice this thing is right out of the box.
I'm glad I found your video. I wanted a full pick guard. Then I got sentimental. But I do want a 3 ply. I can't believe how good these are. I bought a lot of them.
Great video man. Snagged mine last week. Did you stick with 9's? If not did you tweak the saddle screws at all for proper intonation? Haven't put 10's on mine yet but I anticipate either shortening the screws or trying the washer trick under the screw heads, at least temporarily. Also, the GC web site for these FSR colors lists the body as basswood, but I suspect they are poplar like most of the other Bullet Mustang listings. Just a hunch.
Thanks! I went with hybrid slinky‘s, 9 to 46, which is what I use on my full scale Fenders, but I wouldn’t recommend it in retrospect. I think tens are the way to go. Nines are just too slinky on the top strings. And I didn’t change anything with the saddles.
I bought mine mostly for the neck, heh. Wanted to make use of a pair of Mustang single coils I have sitting around too. Will make a decent lightweight practice guitar.
Absolutely gorgeous ,looks lik $1000 plus guitar all day .I've just bought one in black myself and want to get covers for the humbuckers so a custom pickguard would be great .That one really does finish it off brilliantly.
Well done! Those original humbuckers might fit well in a Tele Deluxe mod some day. I made that mod on one of my old squire telecasters. Thanks for sharing some of your sources too.
So many folks mention that the saddles are a trouble shoot when trying to set intonation. Have you not found that as well? I assume perhaps you have as you have listed a link for alternative saddles on your description. I have a Bullet coming in the mail and I'm most concerned about what I'm hearing about the saddles. Thank you.
I didn’t have trouble with intonation using the stock saddles. They were just ridiculously cheap and sounded like a sitar. Good news is replacing them is easy and super cheap. Good luck!
I did the same replacing the knobs with the same. But I have no problem with the HH.I can remove the neck and put it in a suitcase.I like it better than the sonic series
Great video! I bought the same guitar for my 13 yo daughter to learn on. It’s a really cool. I’m not sure about mods since I’ve never done that sorta thing but good to know in case I get the itch. Im not experienced at all and I’m wondering what the wiring does to improve it?
Hi, Noisefree Series #2- L280/L290 When I click on the link it shows the pickups for a telecaster. Will these still fit in the mustang? I'm just a little confused on the screws (bridge pickup looks like a configuration for tele). I'm still new when I mod my guitars and I just don't want to make a mistake with the wrong order. Hope I get a reply. Thank you.
You want the Strat pickups, NOT the Tele ones. Just call Becky or Shannon if you’re confused, but you want two of these: www.wildepickups.com/products/noisefree-strat
That’s what I wanted to do as well, but the player series duo sonic neck did not fit on the bullet mustang body. Other people have apparently made it work but I could not.
Hoodrio I’m not planning on switching necks - I like the Bullet Mustang neck and I’m not a gigging musician so I don’t care if the headstock says Squier or Fender. I’d just like the Lomick SH scratch plate with a coil splitting volume pot. White covered pickups, chrome barrel knobs. Maybe upgrade the tone pot, switch and jack although I’ve no complaints with anything on the guitar.
Stock Radius: 12" I notice that the high E string is at the edge of the fretboard edge like mine. It really needs a new nut that moves the E string about 1mm away from the edge, because having the string slip off the side is not pleasant.
Very nice mods. LOVE that pickguard. I changed the bridge (converted to string though) and nut immediately on mine. It made a huge difference in sustain and resonance.
Hi Floyd, Surf Green is the best! I personally like a pretty clean, classic look, and so I would probably opt for white or parchment. If you wanted to get a little bit wilder, pearloid. as for the shape, you can tell from my video that I really prefer the Duo Sonic style pickguard over the mustang. Lomic Guitars linked in my description also makes a Fender Bronco style one that is pretty cool too. Good luck!
Fantastic mod! It looks fantastic… really want to get that pickguard here in the UK. Shipping from USA is quite costly. The Duo Sonic look with contours is definitely what I’d like.
Nice video, I have this guitar and i want to make it look like the blue kurt cobain mustang but i dont like how the bridge pickup sound and im thinking of buying a seymour duncan sh4 jb brige pickup. Do you think the original bridge pickup sounded bad? What wiring did you buy for the guitar? Thank You. By the way i want to replace the 3 way switch with a double switch like the original mustangs
Nice my bro order the new sonic series mustang I can't wait to make a hs or for the the heck of it a hss with jag control switches like a cyclone clone 🤘👍
My tech said it was doable with some shimming, but I just didn’t want to mess with it since the stock neck played so well on mine. Let me know how it goes if you try it, and good luck!
@@gloryxkid Mine also had pretty major side to side issues, which is where the shims were going to be needed. In terms of the depth, my tech was going to have to shave down the back of the duo sonic neck. In other words, an irreversible modification I didn’t want to risk.
@@Hoodrio I got it today.. and it’s a perfect fit! No wiggle room on the sides and the heel is the same exact size. I did notice the back of the head stock is stamped 75th anniversary so I’m wondering if that plays a part
I've done the same basic things to a squier bullet strat. The necks are some of the smoothest players. I went one step further because I had some cheap locking tuners. The guitar plays and sounds fantastic. Maybe $300 into it.👍
The elephant in the room - for me - was the nut. Just dreadful. Plastic rubbish. With a bone nut it’s a nice instrument. Also found the bolt on the Low E was too long for the bridge and it touched the top loaded string making intonation impossible. Other stuff is subjective and a matter of design preferences. Yours looks lovely. Hopefully you didn’t have issues with the “nut n bolt”.
Pretty funny - I was playing my Mustang when your comment popped up, still with the original nut which fortunately was just fine on mine. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Can't find that all in one Duo Sonic style pickguard anymore :(
@@dhauz___7855 Yes, someone else reported that he closed his eBay store, which is a real shame!

I just picked up the Surf Green version for $130. I'll play it for a while before deciding what to swap out. Thanks for the video!
fender/squier needs to offer an affinity/bullet, mustang & jaguar with single coils, its sort of the only thing missing from their budget range
There is not a jaguar affinity/bullet, its only classic vibe and contemporary I think
@@ControlPointDonelsonmaybe a jazzmaster with single coils
they do that bro, congrats!
Saw your guitar on the squier talk forums, this one is beautiful.

The pick guard company isn't making them anymore. Any ideas of another company making them.

@@Hoodrio- I don't know if you watch for it so much as you just get a new $5-$6 nut and file the high E string 1 millimeter closer to the B string.
I changed the nut on it, the tech I go to told me the spacing between the strings was a disaster
Do you think a Squier Classic Vibe Mustang neck would fit?
I believe the CVs have standard thickness bodies. The problem is the Bullets have slightly thinner bodies and therefore a different neck pocket.
Very nice mods. LOVE that pickguard. I changed the bridge (converted to string though) and nut immediately on mine. It made a huge difference in sustain and resonance.

Have you managed to find a way to do this? I'm only just discovering the bullet and interested in the same thing here in the UK
I wonder what would be the correct way to remove the logo cleanly
Wet sanding with 600 grit . Acetone might do it . Cellulose thinners too .
The only incorrect way would be a hammer and chisel . Or maybe a saw .

This is so cool! Anyone know how I could install an authentic mustang trem onto this squier bullet?
You would need a router & the mustang tremolo router template. Or bring it to a Luthier.
