This video was very helpful - got me through it just fine.
I'm not sure why some others are complaining about you not showing every tiny step - those things I had to figure out didn't take much brainpower, just thinking it through and being careful.
    THANK YOU!

How often is supposed to be done?? Every how many miles or hours??

Thanks, made it a cake-walk. Now, for the million dollar question, how does one reset the maintenance required message after changing the oil on the Trail 1000? Everything I've found points to using the 'override switch' which the Trail doesn't have...?

Your owner's manual should have a reset procedure, but most are as follows:
      1. Select PARK.
      2. Turn ignition switch to ON. Do NOT start engine.
      3. Set the cluster to odometer display.
      4. Press SET button on the multifunction gauge and keep it pressed until step 6.
      5. Switch the high beam On-Off three times rapidly.
      6. Turn ignition switch to OFF.
This has to be done VERY quickly so it might take a few tries.

I would've liked to seen what inspector gadget extension she used to get to those three oil filter cover bolts. They just flew right past that part.

Also flew right past removing rivets on access panel.

8mm socket with a SHORT extension on a ratchet. Coming in from the driver's side might help the angle.

Really?!? They're plastic pop-rivets. Use a thin screwdriver or the fork on a short prybar....

The service manual states as follows:-
    "LUBRICATION SYSTEM
    Verifying Engine Oil Level
NOTICE Operating the engine with an im-proper level may severely damage engine.
NOTE: Check oil level when engine is cold.
    "
In your video you advise to get the engine to temp. is there a reason for this change?

She added 2.1 quarts to the oil, why would you think the level would be low enough to damage the oil? She's just checking to make sure there aren't any leaks and then doing a final check on the oil level after all checks out...that's all folks.

What’s the trick to removing rivets on panel to access oil filter?

    • @SuperATVMedia
      @SuperATVMedia  ปีที่แล้ว +1

We use a plastic rivet removal tool to remove them. You can find these tools fairly cheap from a dealership or Amazon.

It would have been nice if you had taken a head on shot of the oil filter. The camera angle was not good understanding that you were working in a tight spot. Also I have never in my 50 years of driving checked the oil level on a hot engine. Oil needs time to drain back to the oil pan. You do it when it is cold. I suspect you overfilled the oil on this engine.
