**This was filmed 30 minutes before I tripped and fell in the garage and broke my kneecap trying to leave to go see my mother. With the heat, lighting (dark as a dungeon in the house), noise (sorry about the cicadas!!) I ran late and was rushing. That's when bad things happen. Watch where you are stepping, don't trip, and be safe, my friends! Six hours editing and not only my knee is hurting, LOL!
You are a National Treasure Barbara Kaye. Smart, hot, funny, brave and strong. We are so blessed to have you. I love listening to you Kaye, it warms my heart you are so beautiful. Would you like to catch a movie or go to Fiji sometime?
Oh my Kaye, I am so sorry. I hope your kneecap is healing well. You try so hard with all these videos and I greatly appreciate every single one of them. Much love and healing to you.
Hello there kaye, whow my goodness me,,I have never seen so many kinds on one table, hmmm, you really are a hands on teacher ,this film a tomato teacher,,,so informative thankyou,,didn't matter a the dungeon dark, as you and the tomato s were brightly showing,,I only grow a few pots of usually 2 kinds, from my neighbour,,my dad used to give me the small plants to grow on,he is no longer with us,,tomato plants always make me think of dad,,😊,well anyway,I don't have room to grow lots ,but isn't it surprising how many 1 plant provides, its so marvellous, and kaye you are also. Thankyou so very much,,I will show this film to my dear gardening neighbour, he will love all these,,hugs and healing prayers ❤ for you and your knee,xx
You've made me hungry! I've got a Cherokee Purple tomato on the counter calling my name! I made a boatload of tomato juice this year and have been enjoying a glass each morning with my breakfast. Mmmmm so GOOD! The outtake at the end of the video tickled me!
Ohhh Kaye...thank you so much for the night sounds of the Cicada's. How I miss those night sounds in the N. Ga mountains where I lived!!! That is the sound I fell asleep to every night. For people that don't know....yes, that is how loud they are. Then put fire flies galore flitting around.....ohhhh how I am so jealous! Hope your knee is on the mend. I have learned (the hard way) that my eyes and brain work slower than my body. My body could move fast but my eyes and brain don't move fast enough to help me avoid tripping traps or corners of furniture etc. I also only plant one variety of tomato. It is an Heirloom seed saved from this next season will be 33 years) I started some plants for my neighbor this year and they told me they are the best tomatoes ever. Also you look stunning as always.
@@Latebloomershow Oh I'm sorry Kaye a huge misunderstanding. When I moved back to Wi I purchased the plants from a gal who's grandparents started them. When I purchased them they were seeds year 30. They are true heirloom and I am sure they would grow anywhere.
I started growing Gary 'OSena because of your glowing recommendations over the years. Last year I had no luck with it, but this year...holy cow. I had two plants and they've been among my most productive and the taste is wonderful. I hope they'll do as well in upcoming years!
So glad you were not in pain when you filmed this video as I kept thinking as I watched that shouldn't she film this sitting down to help her knee. You are not going to believe it but I am still waiting for my first ripe tomato - that's what planting them too late does for you. Thanks so much for documenting your experience and tasting of the numerous varieties you grew this season which is so helpful to new gardeners. Sending prayers that your knee continues to heal and that your mom is doing ok. Blessings always..
Tuesday is her 94th. My brother is coming for dinner tomorrow evening. Can't wait to tempt him with some good country food! Then we will go see her together on Tuesday. I'm so glad I don't have to make that trip alone. Anyway, I got the date wrong on the video. It was 8/27 I fell, not 9/3. I dated the video files wrong.
Tomatoes are challenging but I love planting different varieties. I planted black beauty this year as the new tomato in the garden. So pretty on the outside and inside of the black beauty.
Great presentation and educational! Hungarian heart was impressive-Since I’m part Hungarian I’ll try them next year. I like Dr. Witches, do well here in Cincinnati. Your face at the end was priceless!! ❤😂
I usually grow Bakers Creek tomatoes (mushroom basket my favorite) but for sauces I grow Burpees award winning tomato for sauce - Super Sauce , largest paste tomato known. Hardly any seeds.
nice to hear your tomato results. I have about 20 kinds.. some I have saved for over 40 years . I tried San Marzano but don't care for them nor Romas or Black Krim . I grow Chadwick cherrys .They actually cover my ompost pile so are so easy to pick and grow all winter in the greenhouse . I have 2 yellows that I found and named from a tomato mix I got from a biodynamic seedsaving group 30 years a ago One is a low acid large cheery called Pale Yellow Egg and the other I call Yellow Slicer..another favorite is Georgia Streak a tasty slicer .Red Rock is my favorite canning and past tomato that I have grown for 40 years . l like interplanting tomatoes with pole beans on my trellises as well as on my teepees .I have no need to can anymore ...so will cut way back on growing them ..
It was so much fun seeing all the varieties you grew and what did well for you. You'll have to try Black Krim again, if you don't get any this time. We always grow several different tomatoes and I always try new ones every year. This year I added Black Krim. It took forever to ripen, but when it did, oh wow! They taste amazing! They also like a good bit of water, so that may have hampered yours. Hope your knee is ok!
How fun and delicious! I love tomatoes and grow a lot too. That Hungarian and the white just may be two I grow next year. Thank you Kaye for this demo. I really enjoyed it.
That's a lot of work to have that many beautiful tomatoes. Thanks for your review. I'm taking notes. I hope to have a garden in East Tennessee next year.
Thanks for subbing! Wonderful! That day was the beginning of my troubles for this year. I fell one hour after that shot of me chewing, broke my kneecap, and went downhill from there. But, there is much to enjoy on my channel and I hope to hear from you often. Tomorrow night 4pm CST i have another livestream. Depending on how many tune in, i will do it again.
Here as recommended with Mary’s Nest and because I want to grow some tomatoes inside if possible. I’m already entertained with your realness! It is hot in TN the last month or so! I’m in KNOXVILLE! ❤ 🍅 beginner gardener (already failed outside).
You didn't fail. Growing your own food is the education of a lifetime. It will get better. Orange hat cherry tomato for growing inside. You'll need a grow light for winter. I am an affiliate for LED grow lights. Find the the link below the video. You will need the light for your seedlings in trays in Jan-Mar anyway. LMK if you'd like to come help me in exchange for learning. You probably saw I broke my kneecap 30 minutes after I shot this video.
I’m getting ready to make some unstuffed pepper soup with sausage and burger and rice! Canning that and then going to make pear sauce from my daughters pear trees!!
Great video Kaye….maybe you should look into growing some non heirlooms that are disease resistant since you get all the rains. There is a TH-camr that lives in North Carolina he grows some awesome F1 varieties for high humidity areas…just a thought
Well, after watching this video, I am happy to report that my tinnitus doesn't seem as bad as it used to be... I think your sprinklers or Cicadas or whatever that noise was was so loud that when it was finally over, I didn't notice my own inner ear noise as bad.. Thanks.
At least they are good for something! I really must try to use a microphone outside. But, they are pretty much done now, I think. First frost on Tuesday night.
I've been growing tomatoes in middle TN for years. The yellows that grow best for me are Dixie's Golden Giant and Amana Orange. The red slicers that do well consistently are Watermelon, Abe Lincoln, and Dester. I will be trying Hungarian Heart next year. Hope your knee is recovering well.
I thought Orange Hat was the #1 worst tasting Micro Dwarf I've had. Many agree. So many good ones out there to go for instead. I didn't know Florentino had such a big gel cavity. Growing Hungarian heart this season. And pink tie dye. Hope it was good.
Loved the video. You did accomplish your goal to inspire, educate and entertain on these varieties of tomatoes. May have to try the Hungarian Heart. I love tomatoes. I usually try one or two new ones every year. I did try the Costoluto Genovese and was not all that impressed. However I did have it in a pot, because I ran out of room. The birds liked them. I will try them one more time before writing them off.
I tried to grow my own food, but there is an engineered drought every summer. So, I planted vegetables in pots because I can control the water. The plants were all crinkly, I think it’s because they are spraying the sky like I’ve never seen before.
I liked this video and learned quite a bit I plan on growing the white one if i can find some seed? Yellow Jubilee is till my fav tomato and the pear tomato is my favorite tiny one! But then again been growing them over 50 years lol....
I got a story about a cherry tomato that made me cry with pain at the restaurant! It was the craziest thing, all because I forgot tomatoes were acidic!
Thank you for honest truth of tomatoes. Yes black Krim are in credible! Not high producers but Yum! I grow all my tomatoes in raised beds but my San Mariano’s! So much easier on the body! My beds are 3 ft tall’ I had a friend give me brads atomic grape from baker seed! Tough! Not a fan. Hope your healing well!
It is very hard to choose one favorite. If I had to choose a best tasting tomato I would pick either Cherokee Purple or Cherokee Chocolate. I can vouch for Amish Paste as well.
@@Latebloomershow Here is a couple you might want to try 1923 Abraham Lincoln and Dester both open pollinated equal too if not better than the Cherokee.

Very enjoyable! That tomato is not Blue Beauty though. I grow it every year, it’s a medium size squatty tomato w/ spectacular flavor. My 2nd fav after Cherokee Purple.🍅
Wonderful! I found the seed packet from Baker Creek, but I cannot guarantee that's what was growing down there. It was the last fresh tomato I ate from the garden, so for that reason will plant again. What do you call yours?
LOL, I'm going to assume that light piece of cardboard was for "bounce" lighting! At least it waited until the end of your video to fall!! You are so fortunate to be able to grow so many varieties of tomatoes. We could grow like that in Virginia, but here in the deep South, it's much more difficult unless you have a high tunnel. Heirlooms rarely survive the pests, disease pressure, heat and humidity here. It's also not advisable to let them ripen on the vine here in the N. Florida Panhandle, or they will be so stung up by stink bugs that you can't eat them. I have to I pick them at first blush and let them ripen in the house. I also don't even try to grow anything but determinant hybrid varieties now, because the others either don't do well or I've got to baby them to get a harvest. With my limited budget, I also purchase seeds that I know will produce well here. I had to get the mindset that I could either grow the food that I need or afford the luxury of experimenting with different varieties. I've also learned to grow what I know we will eat. It's a waste for me to grow things like kohlrabi, because we just don't like it, and the garden space can be better used for something we do enjoy.
You chew up those tomatoes faster than a rabbit tears through a carrot. Don't give up on Berkeley Tie Dye. Mine didn't do really good this year, but they have in the past. Excellent tomato.
