Also, take into consideration that this video is over 10 yrs old so some of these songs are older. PENTATONIX is ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT. Todrick is obsessed with The Wizard of OZ so this is his brainchild.
Just wanted you to give Lollipop another chance. Whatever you found as the original is not what Pentatonix was referencing. Lollipop was originally done way back in the 40s or 50 by the Chordettes. Check them out instead. (And thank you for making me feel old lol.)
What a brilliant concept... telling the Wizard of Oz story through contemporary songs. Todrick is such a creative genius with this sort of thing. And the performances by Pentatonix were spot on. Kirstie really showed off her musical stage background in this one while playing all the female parts.
Pentatonix is amazing…they have been together for 13 or 14 years, with only 1 member change. They have won 3 Grammys, and have their star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame……they have a catalog of a couple hundred songs. Most are covers, but some are originals. Please react to many more of their songs.
in regards to who put this together, I know it was Todrick's baby, but knowing #PTX, they probably helped with song choices and figuring out how it would come together.
Loved this reaction. Pentatonix is my favorite group. They are amazing. They just released new live version of Bohemian Rhapsody and Hallelujah. If you get a chance, will you react to those. Have a great day. Happy Halloween
Avi and Kevin together was pure magic! Also this song has been out for years and I’m so glad you are giving it the recognition it deserves. I wish more people would check this out ! It’s really amazing . You did a great job .
There are many musically trained musicians that react to PTX videos, but not many who breakdown their music as well as you did - so thanks for the great reaction! Todrick Hall's work in arranging and producing this is so good, and it is amazing how many different parts Kirstie played and sang. Also, IMO, the Shoes video/song is one of the best things ever played on the internet, a very early video, which makes me smile every time, and I was so glad to see them use a brief bit of it. I guess it may not be for everyone, but what is?
It's been ages since I saw this! Kirstie was really using her musical theater training here. "Shoes" was one of the first viral videos and a pretty early meme, so it was very much a comedy reference. I remember watching it in the computer lab in middle school, and I have no doubt that if you don't have that kind of nostalgia touchstone it's just completely baffling.
PTX expanded on the "home" section in their album @Home during the lockdown. You'll hear part of the arrangement in that song, too. Hey, if it works ... keep it!
Loves this. Old school Pentaholic all the way back to Sing Off competition but somehow missed this one! Had to laugh at the Liam "Shoes" pop culture insert! I know you didn't love it, but huge memory flashback. When it came out, I was working long long shifts in the military. A few coworkers and I would find random funny or stupid videos to entertain ourselves. This was one of them, and we would randomly quote "Shoes" at each other for years afterwards. Fantastic nostalgia throwback.
My nostalgic throwback moment was to "Home Sweet Home." My all-time favorite power ballad. That song's almost 40 years old, and I'm 75, but it always brings tears to my eyes.
Pentatonix released a EP called Home in 2020 when everyone was in lockdown. Their European Tour got canceled so they went home and recorded seven songs for the EP. They recorded separately and sent to their sound engineer for mixing. They even filmed videos. Most of the Home themed songs at the end of The Wizard of Ahhs ended up on the EP. It was only available for download. A physical CD was never made. Getting Pentatonix songs during lockdown kept many a Pentaholic sane.....
Apologies if she mentions this later, but another this to add about the simplicity of The Cup Song vs Thinking ‘Bout You is that parts are being added as people/characters are introduced. Ex. It’s just the cup because it’s just Dorothy, until she meets Toto (Kevin), who then adds beatboxing (the wind) to introduce Scott as the Scarecrow.
The Lollypop Guild was part of the original movie - the short men were the Munchkins. I thought this whole part was brilliant in depicting the moment in the movie when Dorothy wakes up and she is in The Munchkin Land and the “good witch ” Glinda visits Dorothy and sets her on her way to see the Wizard.
I love PTX. It's been a while since I've listened to them. I think i prefer the older stuff with Avi. I've been on a Home Free kick lately. That being said, I've been to one PTX concert and 2 HF. If given to opportunity to see either go for it. Both put on amazing shows.
I absolutely love Todrick Hall. He's the most underated, most talently performers and producers out there. Love, love, love every thing about this. It's penominal.
Nice breakdown! I've followed Todrick and PTX for quite a while, and believe that Kirsten, Mitch and Scott met in their hometown in TX. Todrick has also composed, sung, choreographed, cast, produced and directed his own genius opera, "Straight Outta Oz": th-cam.com/video/4mUSwHhJ6zA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=37MngltXr2pb9Xeu It is SOOO well worth your time. He is Brilliant!
Peter also had Avi of Pentatonix do "Black is the Color of My True Love's Hair". Hollens is the TH-cam master of making multiple recordings of himself, assembling a chorus.
Great reaction. However, for someone so dedicated to syllables and pronunciation, it's Kerr-sten. Not Chris-sten. Or, Kirsty like thirsty. Again, great reaction it just kinda bugs me when people mispronounce her name. I know it is often innocent so no hard feelings. Much love and keep on keepin on J.
Just a suggestion. Expand your reach. Check out the greatest voices of Rock: Journey, Faithfully Queensryche, Silent Lucidity Simon and Garfunkel, Bridge Over Troubled Water The Carpenters, Only Yesterday Burton Cummings, Stand Tall Queen, Someone to Love Heart, Alone That’s a start.
Do you know Forestella?! They are amazing quartet! I really wanna see your professional reaction!! I recommend you ‘Hijo de la luna’ You would love it! Please react!!

It's genius. They have collabbed on a couple of productions - so fun.
Recommend their mashup of Pure Imagination/Christmas Time Is Here.

Shoes started back with Kids in the Hall. Kelly was a character from that sketch comedy show.
@@jeffcummins8639 I never knew that - Thanks!

Those shoes suck! Betch!
You can tell Kirstin was a musical theatre major before joining ptx. She was actually in Broadway a few years ago in Kinky Boots!

I have Loved this Wizard of Aahhhs collab for so long. It's just so perfect!! I love that you analyzed it and the way you did. Awesome!😊❤

Great advice, I’d love to see either of them!
Damn, you’re good!
Hey Lady.. That outfit looks so good on you.

I definitely am impressed with this performance and look forward to hearing more from him 😊
You may be interested to know that Avi can sing two notes at one time as in The Lion Sleeps Tonight. It is called over tone
