- An interview with Brian Walker, a local resident sharing his memories of the Clapton area of Hackney as part of Hackney Historic Buildings Trust's Lower Clapton Heritage project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund
Great interview and history from Brian, straight from Lower clapton Hackney E5
I'm from india ( Bombay)
I had visited London in 2019 and I stayed in Hackney near lower Clapton pond for a month.
I felt as if I was back home.
I visited many places in London but I think Hackney is the best area to stay.
Loved playing cricket at millfields cricket ground.
❤️
I had to laugh about the Pink Paraffin man ringing the bell down the street ........... when i was little and the Paraffin man came down the street ringing his bell we would all call out " BRING OUT YOUR DEAD " ....... He wasn"t very happy ..... Great interview
I am not as old as Brian but I do share some of those memories of his. I was sent as a little boy with our paraffin jerry can to buy 2 gallons of pink or blue paraffin and struggle all the way back home with it. Hackney has changed immensely.
I remember doing exactly that in the 1970's. I remember the struggle 😄.
I’m from lower Clapton wrens park house estate how old is this man then because he looks really good
