I just got a new 2024 cube stereo 160 front carbon frame alloy rear after a serious injury a few years ago bad one ripped muscle off arm bone dislocated shoulder snapped collar bone in 3 places, slipped lower discs in back so can't bend over the bars to much as so painful so got Burgtec high rise 38s there for it and shorter stem 42mm What a difference it's made the bikes great now!
I've been off a bike for 10 years atleast, I wanted back on my bikes as raced DH alot in my time but being off the bike the weight piled on aswell, So went and spalshed out on an emtb while the sale was on got 2k off the bike so happy with that,
This cube is perfect don't care what anyone says, the way I have it set up now is spot on for living with my injurys and with the bosch smart system it's not a heavy bike being carbon front and has a 750w power tube, 24kg but doesn't feel like it when riding it, now i can pull up on the bars and not leave my arm left connected as always popped out the socket! It was so painful! it's something I can throw about more than the specialized levo 2023 I had a len of for a while last year that thing was heavy! My friend has a Rocky mountain emtb they all feel heavy to cube I'm not sure if it's the new stem and high rise bars I have added as just got rid of the carbon bars without even testing them as came on it new! If anything that shouldn't be carbon it's bars! And if following up with old injurys just get rid of them before they get rid of you! I'm never off the bike now so I would say to you personally don't go for a new lighter Emtb with the smaller battery yeah you can get a range extender but if your needing to buy that then you should have bought the 750w or 900w! 750w is the lowest I would go for an ebike and must have 85 to 90nm of torque! Especially if your somewhat a heavier rider! Your batter will die alot faster aswell! Somehow I think you would regret getting a light weight emtb just now! Unless you are jsut hitting the trails for an hour or 2 that's you then done I'd really think about it

  • @dozza7946

With reference to your carbon vs metal emtb point…. I have ridden both with fun and though I personally own an aluminium e-bike, this was due to the cost and what I could find at the time.
The peace of mind with a metal frame and any worries I may have had with it being used was a factor too.
I know this isn’t an issue so much these days, but it’s one more thing I’m not needing to stress over.
Any perceived cost savings helped me to change any parts I didn’t like.
The geometry and fit was more important to me than saving a few pounds in weight.
As a Chunky Monkey rider @250lbs I like to ride a metal frame as any stiffness that could effect frame compliance is less of an issue at my size 👍

Great coverage! I've never been to one of the big bike shows, but love seeing all the stuff. I'm kind of excited about those Muc Off valves, as i've preferred the availability of schrader valve filling but didn't want to risk trying to drill mu rim to fit a schrader valve. Also, those patch plugs should wprk just fine, they'be been standard use for cars for over a decade.

I'm surprised that you don't have a cargo bike already, I've found one to be an essential dad tool (my kids are 4 and 7). I ride my kids to school and everywhere else on bikes whenever possible. I'm also a fan of the Mac-Ride, but resort to the cargo bike when I need to carry two kids or kids and their stuff. I'm glad that you got to try one!

Not bad looking either but for bigger set guys at 270lbs plus this is the saddle for you! I have an amount of expensive saddles I'll need to put up online I'm absolutely shocked at how nice thisn17 pound saddle is!

22:27 I've always wondered about something like that for years. Started thinking about it just looking at my mother old Schwinn 3 speed (the gears was in the hub) to do away with the front multi ring crank, instead of having a crank with 3 rings, incorporate it into the rear hub on top of the cassette.
1:15:51 oh no, every time i hear of any kind of rubberized coating on any kind of product i think of all the old products that have the rubberized coating that turn into a sticky mess after a few years. I want a light with a user replaceable battery, anything that doesn't have a replaceable battery is just extra E-Waste waiting to happen.

I don't like steering-mounted hardware (racks, bottles, bags, etc.) for the same reason why cargo bikes feel so good:
Cargo bikes steering doesn't swing around the cargo with it while front racks and the like do, which negatively affects steering and wheel flop.
Some bikes have front racks that attach to the frame, and I think those were a better design decision.

My wife and I unfortunately primarily ride our e-bikes, whether it be from lack of time, fitness levels or injuries causing lack of fitness. I would love to be able to ride my normal bike at the same level or duration as my e-bike. The lightweight flickability of a non e-bike is just so much fun. The weight penalty of full power e-bike, for me is a blessing and a curse. On one side you have that super planted feeling due to the weight, and on the other side you are trying to throw around a 50+ pound bike. It is physically demanding and at the end of the ride you are tired. Obviously in a different manner than if you rode a normal bike. But at the same time if you choose you can really tax your cardio just the same as a normal bike. Do I wish my e-bike was carbon instead of aluminum, that is a tough one. For the cost difference it is not worth it. Am I going to notice a Half pound difference probably not. The difference between a full power and sl e-bike is pretty significant. 90nm motor vs a 60nm motor. 50+lb vs 35-38lb bike. For myself it is very rare that I use turbo or full power mode on the bike, unless I am just feeling lazy at that moment and switch into that mode. For the most part I am in eco or trail mode. For myself, I feel that there would be and advantage to own sl e-bike over a full power e-bike. With not using the full power of the 90nm motor, having 50-60nm of assist I think would be more than sufficient, also the losing 10 or more pounds off the bike would be a huge gain. The gap between an assisted ride and normal ride would also not be as dramatic. Just my two cents. Now if they would drop the price down so I could afford one.

My dual piston Tektro hydraulic brakes stop great, but pads wear unevenly. Is there a brand or type caliper that gives more even pad wear? BTW my Trek Rail 5 has 5900 miles and just replaced original pads...very uneven wear.

    • @BigBrainParty
      @BigBrainParty  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

perhaps you have a low end tektro, or one of your pistons is dirty and not fully retracting or sliding like it should.

Ill go into more detail on patreon, but o fons the berds slightly more flexy and forgiving. The gulos tend to hold up a little better in corners, the berds tend to absorb a bit more vibration. Both are extremely light.

Wonder how the strength and durability is of these 3d printed parts are. I’d rather have a little heavier hubs that last rather then save a few grams. The new DT Swiss hubs look awesome and very light.

I think that all comes down to the engineer who designs each part. I dont break many parts, so take this with a grain of salt, but I haven't broken a 3d printed part yet on any of my neuhaus frames.

Oooh, sneakpeak at the Stanton Sedona, and it's on the website as well. Looking forward to more info on it and see where it lands between the Sherpa and Switch9er

    • @BigBrainParty

It kind of lands next to those two, not really in between. The sherpa is actually slacker than the sedona by 0.5*

They're not intended for aggressive trail use. They're more of a gravel/light xc wheel, and i don't feel like theyre lighter than the trail gnar wheels. Im betting they ride pretty stiff too.

Please insist with your Dr. that you get an MRI for that. It can be genetic. Or, it can be caused from having a good whack on the head. And if you’re like me, riding motorcycles and mountain bikes my whole life, you’ve probably received a couple good whacks on the head.
How can I get in touch with you, so I can tell you my story? I was at Sea Otter on Saturday, and I looked for you. But, I didn’t see you.
