I just want to let you know man thank you very very much from the bottom of my damn heart you save me a shitload of money this is by far the best video on this subject on TH-cam once again thank you very much
Thanks for the great detailed video of this repair. My fan bracket went out on my 2000 Land cruiser at 265k and I was able to replace it and the fan clutch with your instructions. Some things under the hood are obviously a little different from the tundra, but still similar enough with the same reliable 4.7 Toyota engine.
Great walk-through of the entire process. First viewing it seemed like a massive pain but after a few more views I was ready to tackle it. You saved me some serious dinero. Thanks for sharing, you are good!
Brian Eslick thanks i have a toyota sequoia and the proces step by step help me a lot take me 3 hours to change the fan bracket i wach you video exelent job thanks
Thank you so much for this video. It was spot on and helped me change the fan pulley bracket on my 2004 Tundra. Only difference is that there was a small bracket on top of the ac compressor that was blocking the top bolt. Of course the screw stripped but I was able to bend it up out of the way.
Good vid, those fans runs constantly right, that’s what my 03 does and I can’t remember if it always did that, the air from fan made my thermostat take a while to finally open up
I have a question. I used a 12 mm wrench but I ended up rounding out one of the nuts that holds the tan on. I got the others off but that one was really in there. My wrench ended up slipping Dist and rounding out. Do you have any tips on getting that off?
Great video. I took mine apart and had it back together in a few hours. Only issue is it cranked once and shut down. Now starter is just spinning. Any advice would be great
Great video! Got it all back together. Original problem fixed! HOWEVER, it now won't idle! I must have done something to those wires on the driver side by the cover to the timing belt. Any thoughts on which wires to check? The connectors seem tight.
I would just double check over your work just nothing really to mix up more likely something unplugged. Also have the code‘s pulled that I can lead you in the right direction
@@HowtoAutomotive I think I might have pulled the cam position sensor wire off when I removed the cover. I'm going to have to open it back up to check.
@@HowtoAutomotive I took the driver's side timing belt cover off. Checked the wires going to the cam position sensor. They looked ok. They were not broken that I could tell. All back together. Still no idle. It showed no codes at the local Napa. Could a fuse have blown? Which fuse controls the cam position sensor? I'm stumped.
Solved: cleaned intake butterfly valve. Never touched it throughout the work. Pulled the truck in the garage and it idled fine. Did the work per this great video. Went to drive out, and it wouldn't idle. Somehow, coincidentally, the butterfly valve decided to get stuck during the three hours it took to replace the fan bracket.
Previous owner of my LX470 only attached two bolts for the AC compressor. This put unnecessary stress on thes two bolts, which broke the mount on the fan bracket, and also one of the bolts in half. I don't know how that happens, or why the previous owner did this almost blatant act of sabotage, but it took a week before the ac compressor fell off and the belt coming off with it. I will use this video to do the replacement. Thank you.
So exactly how many foot pounds of torque is required for the new gold colored studs (*also are new studs provided & included with your new bracket fan part when you purchase it? The part that is the one installed...) that are to be coated with Permatex Brand of blue color liquid anaerobic removable medium hold strength thread locker before they get tightened up by hand and then with the special socket for studs that grabs and holds onto just the very top of the thread lands of the stud
The fan shroud on my 2002 Tundra has small metal clips at the lower bottom left and right sides at roughly the 4 and 8 o'clock positions on the plastic fan shroud, which when pulled out the clip releases the bottom section from the top section of the shroud... this will allow the top 1/2 or 2/3rds of the fan shroud to come out all by itself... leaving the bottom in place.
How to know that the fan bracket housing is the issue. My serpentine belt broke and when I replaced the belt, I noticed that my fan wasn't moving when the truck was running. Could it be a bad fan clutch?
A Christian You put a ratchet or ranch on the tensioner that’s underneath the thermostat housing and rotated counterclockwise and that will spring the tensioner loose allowing you to slip the belt off.
Yup it was my clutch pulley bracket. How I know is because It still had a bad sound even after I changed the fan clutch so I changed the bracket. It was a mission but I got her done but know my battery is dead so I can't test things out . I have to take it to go get charged I have no battery charger sucks. I was so close. The glory was bitter sweet.

hi Brian. Can only the bearing be replaced...?
best DIY video ever

my sequoia won't idle for a few hours after I unplug the battery, everytime... After the annoying hour or two its starts running fine again...
What is the battery ratchet like tool you use?
Would this work on the LX 470?
Yes it’s the same 👍

What was the main symptom on the need to replace this piece? TIA
@@sonicricardo if I remember right it was a bearing noise.
Thank you so much it was helpful how you did it from beginning to end

How to Automotive
What was the reason for replacing? Was it knocking and sounding like a mini diesel?
Thank you for the vid!
Thank you for watching!
What was the problem that resulted to changing the fan clutch bracket.
Antonio Sherrod The bearing in the front of it went bad making noise.
Was it just making noise and wobbling periodic? Mine is making a rattling noise with a slight bounce.
Antonio Sherrod Yes that’s what it was doing.
I noticed that a large puddle of water/coolant was under the vehicle. I couldn’t locate the leak. Would the be associate with the clutch fan bracket?
Antonio Sherrod sounds like the water pump behind the timing cover.
Did you drain all the coolant or just what
was at the top hose?
Just the top bit is all...
Should the Tundra be using red colored coolant or is it ok that is has the green coolant???
Toyota uses a red coolant. It’s not a good idea to mix them. They have different lubricating properties for the water pump and other moving parts.
The fan shroud on my 2002 Tundra has small metal clips at the lower bottom left and right sides at roughly the 4 and 8 o'clock positions on the plastic fan shroud, which when pulled out the clip releases the bottom section from the top section of the shroud... this will allow the top 1/2 or 2/3rds of the fan shroud to come out all by itself... leaving the bottom in place.
thank you!!
should that fan pulley move freely when the accessory belt is off? mines fozen in place
Thats why you're replacing it...
How to know that the fan bracket housing is the issue. My serpentine belt broke and when I replaced the belt, I noticed that my fan wasn't moving when the truck was running. Could it be a bad fan clutch?
Was the bracket free spinning or hard to spin after you took it out? How did you know it was bad?
iamsmartmethinks on this one you could wiggle the fan up and down and left and right the bearing had play
How to Automotive ok mine doesn't move but makes a grinding noise and shakes randomly. It's the only pulley that does that.
@@iamsmartmethinks have you figured out the problem?
Yes the bearing on the pulley went out.
Thanks help out alot
Thank you👍🏼👍🏼
Didnt understand how the drive belt was removed update: just remove the idler pulley correct?
A Christian You put a ratchet or ranch on the tensioner that’s underneath the thermostat housing and rotated counterclockwise and that will spring the tensioner loose allowing you to slip the belt off.
@@HowtoAutomotive thanks for the quick response. Ok I think I'm ready to take on the task.
How do ik if the bracket is bad
How can you tell that your bracket is no good. I think it's my fan clutch but I want to be positive before I put things back in place.
Yup it was my clutch pulley bracket. How I know is because It still had a bad sound even after I changed the fan clutch so I changed the bracket.
