I don't know...there was quite a lot of success all gathered together in that one room. The thing about music is: IT WAS NEVER MEANT TO BE COMPETITIVE. It was mean to be enjoyed together not to be a contest. It was the business people, the lawyers and the sales people who made the competition angle to try to push sales and make more money. Ask any of the artists and they'll all tell you they hate the idea of saying their song is better than someone else's song. While you may LIKE or PREFER one artist over all others, it doesn't necessarily make them better, just more to your taste. Whereas another may have a completely diffferent view. So to say any one in that room was better than all the rest is only a subjective view and probably none of the people there would agree with that. They're all different and their musical output is different - as it should be. In order to have any kind of fair competition, you have to remove all of the differences and make all exactly the same.
@@Rx_Bluegrass I wholeheartedly agree with you. Thats why I don't like music contests. It's not based on quality its based on popularity. The most popular song will always win and just like you I don't judge music that way. But there IS a case to be made for calling a particular artist greater than another. I mean, you HAVE to call Elton John greater than say, Justin Bieber in terms of musical quality! The same with the charts. It's just a popularity thing and that's fair enough but I've never thought of music like that. I miss music shows where they simply let musical artists appear and sing their songs without judges making their so called expert comments. No scores, no points, just let the music speak for itself! I'm definitely on your side but none of my friends who are into music agrees with me. I used to watch Eurovision Song Contest but I had to give it up because I knew there was no way to decide which song is "better" or " worse". It all comes to down to individual taste. The thing is, there are ballads, rockers, Jazz inflected songs, and other kinds of music in these contest and its useless to put these up against eachother. Of course saying Dan Seals probably was the greatest of them all is my subjective view. Trouble is, for many people they would call that absolutely objective! Ive talked to several people regarding music and how were judging artists and musical genres and they honestly believe THEIR favourite artist or song IS the best and how dare I even question their stand!😁
@@thomasmarthinussen8978 There is not doubt that as far as musical knowledge or instrument prowess there are going to be vast differences among different people. Case In Point: In the movie Amedeus, Court Composer Salieri (played by F. Murray Abraham) is always comparing his talent to Mozart's and can't quite hold up to the genius. So if it were a contest of who could write more songs, or who could pick more notes in a minute, there would be lesser and greater all across the board. But that's not the same as saying "this song is better". Just like you can't say that "Moonlight Sonata" is better than "Hey Jude". They're not in the same genre, not in the same century and not in the same country....but there will always be people who say: "Hey Jude" is the best of all time....or "There'll never be another song like "Layla". It's just human nature. What they really mean is THEY LIKE IT BETTER. But it's a character flaw just like when they say: "You make me so very angry" when in fact, it is they who make themselves angry because they don't like what you do.
@@torchyswinson7264 in my mind, i silently relate this song to Merle Haggard - The farmer's daughter. I don't know whether they are relatable or not. They both are very heartbreaking

Dan was a genuine down to earth guy. What a gentleman, and what a show he put on for our little county fair in Waterville Washington. Rest in peace Dan, many folk miss you dearly.
So many greats in one room. It’s sad country music can’t be like this anymore. So much emotion & great storytelling. You don’t have to be country to appreciate how great songs like these are. Country music today needs to go back to this blueprint & make this genre relevant again.
One of the best versions of one of the best songs ever written. I have to mention the guitar playing. He’s playing a right handed 12 string guitar left handed and never misses a note. That’s pure talent. Not bad for a West Texas boy from Big Lake, TX.
That's not difficult. Just work out how you want to play it, and then practice, practice, practice. Odd that he wanted to play it that way, but I'm sure he had his reasons. I've played guitar for decades, and I know that eventually it becomes instinctive.

But it's a character flaw just like when they say: "You make me so very angry" when in fact, it is they who make themselves angry because they don't like what you do.
...this touching, heart-wrenching song can still make me cry... appreciate loved ones, there's always so little time. 🙏💙
There is more talent in that one room than all the music genres combined of today!
That is as true of a statement as they come ... That room is packed full of talent !!
That's as true as the day is long.
flock of music geniuses. and you can see how they respect each other during their jam session.
... I reckon
The road is long
And so is the talented people I've enjoyed listening to, 1960s to 2022
Adios
You can't beat a great song, sung with emotion.

Sitting on the porch in 2024 balling my eyes out one of my favorites

@@torchyswinson7264 in my mind, i silently relate this song to Merle Haggard - The farmer's daughter. I don't know whether they are relatable or not. They both are very heartbreaking
Oh yea
yes every day.. ifugao w/ love
Of course, this music is timeless! It’s sad to see all those wonderful musicians that have passed on now including Dan........
When you write a song so great, kind of as an outsider at that time, and you get the greatest of the great to sing along….. well, that’s why I write songs. For just one moment like that.
Good morning Ruth how are you doing today
Seen him in Abilene it was awesome really tore me up when he died 😔
It's heartbreaking to see so many of these guys that are no longer with us. R. I. P. To the greats. There'll never be a replacement
Love Dan. May he rest in peace.

Simple Music can make you sing. a Simple hug can make you feel better, Simple things can make you happy, Kay I hope my Simple Hello makes you smile..
Man, he just hit it out of the park !
And to top it off, he's playing that guitar upside down. The guitar is strung for a right handed player and Dan's a lefty.
When songs had meaning ,words painted a picture and the story takes you on a journey. Kids this is how it is done.
I can still feel the heart of ole country music beating
Loved his music - always great songs. He was also a joy to sit and talk with - several times. One of the sweetest guys in our biz - ever. RIP Dan
How many people in that room are still with us in '22

So sad as they scanned the room. They were the greats! It's 2024 and Willie I still singing, Thank Goodness!

DAN SEALS still one of the best, so underrated and under appreciated, a great loss to the music industry
I’ve always wondered if he did not get his due because of his faith.
How many #1 songs or Gold records does he need to not be underrated anymore? Do you even know what Underrated MEANS?
Wow the emotion in Dan Seals face when he finishes.. Who hurt you Dan seals?
this song never fails to put a tear in my eye and a lump in my throat. He was a wonderful entertainer.
How many of the Greats in that room had no idea they wouldn't be with us today. That video is immortal.
2022 and still in awe of Dan's talent.
Man I would have been so honored to have sung a song around a group of singers like these.

Good morning Carlos how are you doing today
Tell me a tear didn't come to your eye. And I will call you a liar.
Not everyone will cry a tear, sometimes the time is wrong, sometimes the feeling is wrong. Just because you may have cried a tear not everybody will!!
I had never heard of Dan Seals, never knew the song and when I first heard it I only understood half of the words yet I had tear come to my eye, couldn't explain it. I've heard it about a dozen times now and I know all the words, the production on this live performance is outstanding I reckon, it still brings a tear to my eye. Some day down the line I'll be able to watch this video without getting cracked up.
Never had a song do that before in my 75 years.
What a fantastic performance, great job!!!
Cheers,
John.
Makes me cry everytime and especially at the sad loss of such a kind humble soul
I wonder

@@wayneoost8643 Yes,it did bring tears to my eyes, and I got hooked on this song, and I just want to hear io hear it often- one of my favorite songs. Thanks Dan Seals and Tim for posting it
I had the pleasure of having dinner with Dan Seals back in the early 90's when he came to play our county fair. The fair manager invited me to the home-cooked dinner his wife put on. Dan was a genuine down to earth guy. What a gentleman, and what a show he put on for our little county fair in Waterville Washington. Rest in peace Dan, many folk miss you dearly.
joethebumbler you sir are a fortunate individual

Good morning Charles how are you doing today
I love these kind of story songs
Hi Vicki
I Love Dan Seals 👍👍👍👍👍
Hello friend, how are you doing today?
Esta canción fue la que escogí cuando me casé con mi esposa Yadira.
So many greats in one room. It’s sad country music can’t be like this anymore. So much emotion & great storytelling. You don’t have to be country to appreciate how great songs like these are. Country music today needs to go back to this blueprint & make this genre relevant again.
How true. I sneer at most "country" artists today. Bobby Bare, Roy Clark, Chet Atkins...pure country talent.
wow
One of the best versions of one of the best songs ever written. I have to mention the guitar playing. He’s playing a right handed 12 string guitar left handed and never misses a note. That’s pure talent. Not bad for a West Texas boy from Big Lake, TX.
That's not difficult. Just work out how you want to play it, and then practice, practice, practice. Odd that he wanted to play it that way, but I'm sure he had his reasons. I've played guitar for decades, and I know that eventually it becomes instinctive.
