    Your careful and thorough discussion of each step was fantastic. It’s amazing that your video far and away is better than any OEM help I have come across for any installation task. If you’re not, you should be an instructor/teacher. Kudos to you!
    I agree with others that you should post an OEM trailer hitch installation so the rest of us can follow your lead and tackle this project as well. Thank you.

      @@CumBrianFries No interference at all with the front mudguards. You don't need to remove it during installation because there is plenty of clearance between the running board landing step and mudguards for both to exist so you're good!

    Great video! Installed these running boards on my wife's Highlander today while the weather was somewhat warm. Everything was mostly smooth. The rivnuts are a bit of a pain. I bought a similar tool from HF. Gets the job done. I did see another method that involves a standard M6 bolt and nut with a couple wrenches to set the rivnuts. Might be easier to get leverage in tighter spaces and save a few bucks on a tool that'll most likely be used once.

    Great video. The only other tip I would recommend is to ensure you properly seated your rivnuts. After you press in a rivnut, check with a bolt to ensure it goes in smoothly and the rivnut doesn't spin freely. Don't ask me how I figured out that the hard way :-)

    Thanks for your thorough instructions, I installed mine today following your video and instructions from online. But when I was tightening the 7 bolts, 2 of the bolts cracked the running board. I was just at 20lbs torque. So I stopped torquing them and just tightened them until it was enough to me. Did you ever had an issue like this? I wonder if warranty covers it.

    • @vietbubbletea
      @vietbubbletea  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh man, I think 20ft-lbs may be too much torque. I believe the instructions mention 7Nm which is only about 5.16ft-lbs. I don't think the warranty will cover it if they know it was DIY. If there's two cracks then maybe they would do an exchange if you mentioned it came in the package like that. Was this purchased at local dealer? Sorry to hear buddy.

      I actually used an 11" rivnut tool similar to this however I've heard others have used a 14" tool without jacking the car up but you'll have less clearance to work with for the rivnuts located near the door jams. The shorter tool definitely gives you a better angle however it may require more arm strength to crimp due to the shorter handles. Good luck!

    How much did you pay for the car? I'm sure you saved with the prices that are going on now

    • @vietbubbletea
      @vietbubbletea  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's definitely dealerships that are price gouging customers above MSRP but theres also many who are getting $4000 below MSRP so it all depends on the dealership you go to and their inventory and sales tactics. The chip shortage has definitely created a sellers market for sure however many people in the Toyota forums/FB groups are reporting that they are still able to build their cars and avoid paying those market markups. I purchased my Platinum Hybrid AWD back in Dec 2020 using the Costco Auto program for around $48,700, 1.9% and $750 more on my trade in so it was an okay deal.
      If you're in the market and can't find a local dealer who can give you $4000 below MSRP, I'd wait until the end of the year when the 2022 models debut and the market inventory rebalances out again. Those shady dealers today will be more than willing to negotiate big deals to hit those end of the year franchise factory bonuses! lol

      @wlit Yes, the bottom of the running board has two cut outs in the plastic molding that gives you access to the front and back pinch weld points where you would normally put jack stands or in case of emergency use, the scissor jack. This also gives plenty of clearance if you take your car for servicing and they use a car lift. About the 3M Sealant - the menu said to have 2 inches of clearance around the hole. But when you put the new sealant on, is it still having 2 inches of clearance? • @vietbubbletea

      @wlit I'm not sure myself as the 2 inches clearance can be interpreted a few ways. The existing glob of sealant I removed prior to adding a thinner layer was thick and hard so I imagine that if not removed, could cause clearance issues for the running boards to sit flush against the sheet metal. You could test fit and skip this step to see if you have issues and report back your experience! You will need to install rivnuts in the two holes next to this area (side & bottom) as mentioned in the installation instructions. I hope that helps!

    Hi, at the Toyota dealership I purchased my vehicle they disassembled the plastic that was to install the sidewalks, I decided to disassemble them and go back to the source, can you help me with the issue and tell me what the catalog number is listed on them so I will try to purchase and install them again . Thank you very much for your help

      I'm not sure if I understand your question... are you planning to install or remove the running boards? If removing, are you trying to install the black plastic rocker boards back? Is this what you're looking for? Buying it brand new is too expensive and not worth it if you ask me.

      Something like this will work as you'll need the M6 sized rivnuts.
      Rivet Nut Tool, 11“ Rivet Gun Rivet Nut Tool Reamer 3 in 1 Set, Including 50Pcs Rivets, 60Pcs Rivet Nuts, 6 Metric & SAE Mandrels and 2 Reaming Mandrels with Carrying Case-TLRNG04HD www.amazon.com/dp/B09B6W82C2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apan_glt_fabc_7EX2VWMHTY63MY082AJ1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

      Looks like the rivet nuts that came with it are giving me trouble. I’m using the 1/4-20 on the rivnut tool but I’m not able to thread the rivet nut enough to crimp it. The whole batch of nut are the same way, not sure if it’s possible to get all the rivets defective

    • @vietbubbletea
      @vietbubbletea  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ericsaechao7547 The 1/4-20 pattern won't work because the threading is wider than the M6 threading. You're going to strip all of your M6 rivnuts and damage your tool. You gotta use the M6 threading and it should screw on smoothly by hand before you crimp. Hopefully they are still in good condition.
