I've just done my fourth lesson, so I've just started doing swizzles and they're harder than they look! I didn't realise just how much balance you lose when your feet are far apart! 😂
Watching all the ice skating tips for beginners videos I can find. I go ice skating for the first time ever with a close friend sometime today. This helped alot. Thank you!!!!
I am glad I found this. My first lesson in a couple days, but I plan on going to the rink before hand to get comfortable with the skates and being on the ice, and this is what I needed to see. The wall and falling are going to be my friend. Thank you for this easy to understand starting place. Fingers crossed it goes well.
@@CoachMarySkating thank you! I've had 2 so far and can't believe how far I'm coming on! Still not confident with a few of the basics but I'll get there 💪
@@cyberels ah not so well unfortunately! 🙈 I got my level 1 certificate and then took a break to try and save a little money, and since Covid I've not been back at all, I'll probably be back to square one now but I enjoyed it while it lasted 🙂
took some notes to follow for my next skating session this weekend! ive been just making laps around the ice but not really finding myself getting any better or even much more comfortable on the ice so hopefully these exercises will help (:
Out of all the beginner videos, I think yours are the best since you do it from multiple angles and fully explain how to do things. Other videos just say how to do it, but don't show how or all the steps to achieving a given move making it difficult to get it correct as one should. Thank you so much!
Self learning and after being on the ice for 3 hours doing alot of practicing. Just the basics I fell not on my back or butt, but my tailbone. I had layers on but I hurt.
How I was able to skates on my first ice skating using figure skates was first, before I stepped in to the ice, i was walking around the mat with my ice skates just to get my feet used to the feeling of wearing it. Second, when i finally was on ice, I was using the bar thingy to help me skate around. What i did was I let my feet get used to gliding on ice and make sure my footing is right. After 30 minutes to an hour of just skating around, I felt my feet and legs getting used to the motion of gliding against the ice. I then slowly let go of the bar once in a while as I skated- but not completely getting rid of the bar (cuz i did not want to fall hard). Once I felt comfortable doing that and was able to pick up balancing while letting of the bar once in awhile, i tried lifting the whole bar off the ice and skated with it. I know it sounds crazy but I find the weight helps me balance more. So i did that, i lifted it as I skated and when i feel i’m about to fall, i can just lean on to the bar again. After almost 2 hrs, i tried skating without anything at all and was able to skate comfortably (that if i don’t think about not having the bar anymore, otherwise i’ll panic and fall). Haha! That was what i did and it worked for me! 😊

I really enjoy watching your skating tutorial. I started to gain interest in FS this year but then pandemic happens so I ended up doing a lot of off ice training to prepare myself before the actual skating. I finally get the chance to get my first ice skate experience today and it was WAYYY harder than I imagine. I thought I can do spirals/ shoot the duck right away cuz I train my legs a lot. Maybe I should focus on actually skating than just doing off ice.
I'm going skating tomorrow with my friend. I've gone skating maybe twice, and I FOR THE LIFE OF ME CANT SKATE. I CAN ROLLERBLADE, ROLLERSKATE, AND EVEN SKI, BUT SKATING? I CANNOT. This video is so helpful! Thank u, I'll be trying this all tomorrow!
I am fixing to take learn to skate lessons and get into figure skating. I am a male 37. Excited to see what happens. Love these videos. I can watch these and play with this stuff in public skate and be ahead of the class in the next lesson and hopefully advance quickly. I am also an equestrian and ride English doing eventing and know how to snow ski, Will any of that make figure skating easier or help me advance quicker than the others that don’t do that? I see it uses the core and most of what riding does but never figure skated.
I wanna be able to be a figure skater one day! But I have skated because there is not many areas to skate where I am because it's so warm, lol! This is gonna help me out a lot for to be able to actually go out and skate on the ice. 😊
Nice video and tutorial. When lifting our feet, to do the match...does one stand on the neutral blade or inner blade of our skates. I am a complete beginner. Thanks.
Please show alternate ways to stand up after a fall. My skate keeps sliding when I try to do it - won’t stay still. Currently using wall to get up so that skate is pinned still.
I have a question : Is it dangerous if some candy wraps or paper is on the ice ? In childhood I was told not to leave any debris on the ice because that can cause serious injury if your blade runs over a candy wrap or tissue , because it will make you rapidly stop and fall. Is it true? I skate at a reputable skating facility (academy) during public skating and I see candy wraps or visitor stickers on ice and security people who monitor skating don’t do anything. I pick up that trash ALL the time and place it aside or in my pocket. How important that is ? or was I taught wrong all this time? Thank you !! love your channel.
Ima save this btw did you mention that you shouldn't like when you take a step you shouldn't go front but instead push sidewards?? Because I just heard about it
Alittle More Music I wouldn’t worry! Everyone falls at times, even the people who are amazing at ice skating! Don’t let your fear stop you from pursuing ice skating ❤️

Don’t land on your hands you can break your wrist! If you fall backwards make sure you tuck your chin in so you don’t hit the back of your head!

Do I need to keep my knee little bend all the time, in the video @2:47min looks like knee is straight, is it okay to keep straight? Will I not fall
Great tips!!! 😊😊😊⛸⛸⛸⛸👍🏽
thank you! i will have 2 and 1 foot spin videos coming up next!
Thankss it’ really good!!
I read that bending at the waist like a lower squat with chest up actually provides more stability than simply standing.

Im scared to fall at the ice because the ice is very cold and yesterday i go ice skating there is 3 people broke their legs
Ours is outdoor ice skating
I can do small backwards swiizle but can do front. What is the problem. I dont budge
Ima save this btw did you mention that you shouldn't like when you take a step you shouldn't go front but instead push sidewards?? Because I just heard about it
for beginners, I have them just "walk" but as you progress, correct! you push off to the side like 45 degrees feet like a V or L)
@@CoachMarySkating oh okay!
When marching across the ice, is it proper to use the inside edges of the blade? ☺️
try to stay flat! so ankles don't fold in :)
I’m going today I’m so nervous 😬
Every time I push my skate gets caught and I flail my arms
