I have always wanted to be a pilot. Father was in the Air Force for 22 years so I lived on flight lines a lot. Developed Type-1 diabetes as a teen, so not possible for me to be a pilot. Anyway 35 years later, I now have a powerful PC and just bought my first flight sim, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020. I cannot even stress how HIGHLY disappointed I am in that software. Of course it is breathtaking in its scenery, physics, real-world data, etc. But it SEVERELY lacks in documentation. If it is your first sim, like it is mine, and you have zero pilot training, you will be completely overwhelmed. I have a degree in electrical engineering so I am no idiot. I really can't believe that Microsoft didn't publish any reference materials (even basic materials). Thank you for your videos so at least I have a chance.
We're glad you can pursue the dream in the virtual world! The amount of knowledge needed can be pretty overwhelming, so we definitely understand the frustration. Our original plan for this channel was to help fill that gap between the complex real world procedures and flight simming as a game. From a procedural standpoint, Xplane 11 is incredible (if only we could have MSFS graphics and Xplane functionality). Welcome to the channel, and let us know how it's going from time to time. Many of our videos are direct requests or ideas inspired by our viewers comments. Happy flying sim captain! -flightbro Tim
Hi, loved the video. Just one question, how good is Prepar3D. I´ve been following a streamer recently and he just flies with that sim and looks good, apparently responds good too, quite realistic but im new to the world of flight simulation
It’s really up to you. P3D gets updates also, I believe v4 or 5 released this spring/summer. A quality sim should do just that, and any quality add on should replicate the aircraft. A Zibo 737 in XPlane should be identical to one is Microsoft or P3D products. Take a look and see who has the type of aircraft you envision flying. To be fair, you could buy all 3 sims, and try them out if you wanted. We aren’t massive fans of one sim being “better” than the other. Fanboys and Girls don’t grow the hobby! We hope that helps answer your question. If not, fire back, and we are glad you enjoyed the video! I should disclose that we own XPlane 11 and MSFS “2020” and have no experience with Prepar3d.
Great video! Lovely and thank you from South Africa. 37 year old Dad of a 7-year-old just getting into the sim world so cannot wait for FS2020.... just hating the idea of having to wait for the 100+GB download, seems kind of silly to now allow us a pre-load.
Confused Dad your family is pretty close to ours so we understand the challenge and excitement! We both have purchased MSFS2020 as well, so we plan to deliver content on both platforms!
That’s too broad of a questions to answer. For the casual simmer, both can be utilized effectively. For the intermediate level simmer, GA aircraft seem to be fairly good on MFS, while the heavier metal seem to get criticized on the web. For the serious simmer, XPlane has the edge for now. It’s been around longer, it’s flight model is very well regarded and has countless free and high quality payware add-ons. The integrated ability to fly with friends goes to MFS. We are fortunate enough to have both, with the majority of our flying in XPlane combine with Just Flights Air Hauler 2. A quick VFR hop around the patch with Tim in MFS is also a good time. I hope that helps. -Lee
Thank you that's really helpful .. also um following you for any new video + i've subscribed I'm a beginner on simflight and i want to learn this simulator but i have some troubles .. because i am still confused about this game so i have macbook .. and this its details ----------------------------------------------------------- MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014) 2,5 GHz Intel Core i7 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 MAC OSX CAPITAIN Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB ----------------------------------------------------------- i want you to recommend me .. should i download the game from steam (x plane 11) and also should i buy throttle control ??
Flight X thanks for the kind words. I would imagine your RAM is fine, and i5 and up are recommended. We have an i5 and and i7. I’m not sure about the video card. I believe XPlane may have a trial version. I would strongly suggest seeing if that is still the case, and if so trying it on your system to check it’s performance. You may need to do some research to double check your system’s specs. Hopefully that points you in the right direction. Sorry for the delay, it says you sent this two weeks ago, but we’ve just seen it for some reason.
