Just browsing the latest comments shows that the consideration of Rayner's response goes beyond her response/communication as a politician running for her party. Regardless of your opinion of her, 1. JK Rowling is not a politician, an expert, nor anyone remotely experienced in championing equality - and certainly does not deserve this amount of attention for her uninformed, biased and prejudiced views. She is not qualified to be consulted. Whatsoever. 2. The majority of the discussion here is blatantly from trans-exclusive persons. The discussion here is NOT balanced, nor remotely respectful/understanding or even considerate of trans people, but yet they are happy to watch a video on their rights and lives - then debate all of this as if you have some kind of moral high ground?! The discussions and comments here - in what is supposed to be a well-reported news piece - are frankly ill-informed, prejudiced, transphobic and full ignorant rhetoric. Those who have made their irrelevant and illegitimate comments as I have indicated know who they are and should feel enormous stomach-churning shame. I certainly do - and I've only read a few of the comments.
Fully with Rowling on this matter. Surely the key thing in this whole debate is the preference and rights of biological females as it's _they_ who are potentially having their private spaces occupied by biological men. My guess (but it’s a guess based on extensive experience) would be that the vast majority of women (i.e. with cervix) wouldn’t want biological men in their private spaces, regardless of whether these men self-identify as ‘women’, and even if they have fully transitioned through physical/chemical castration. Put it this way: if I were a young mum taking her pre-teen child to the public swimming pool, would I want biological men (regardless of their trans status) sharing the changing rooms with me? Answer: no. This does _not_ mean I’m ‘anti-trans’; it means I am pro-protecting safe spaces for biological women. I don’t care how you self-identify, just as long as your chosen identity doesn’t adversely affect _my_ life. The analogy would be with organised religion: I’m agnostic; believe in and worship what you want, but when this unfavourably impinges on _my_ life, that’s when my hackles are raised. Religion should be a private matter and not pervade the public sphere and potentially adversely affect the lives of others. With trans women, they can do what they want within the law, express themselves how they want, call themselves what they want (and I will honour this), but if the majority of biological females don’t want them actually physically invading their private spaces, this wish should be honoured in practice.
So which changing room does a fully transitioned, gender reassigned trans woman use? The male one where possibly your husband and male child are exposed to this ‘terrible threat’?
Ur literally saying that if someone has fully transitioned from male to female and no longer has male physical attributes they should be treated as a male because you don't want them in 'your' space while maintaining that you're not anti-trans🙄. The analogy isn't a religious one, its an historic racial one - and u are taking the same person as a white southerner in the US who wanted to bar black people from 'their' spaces....
@@ukbullseyeldn All I’m saying is quite simple: if you have gone through male/female puberty you are biologically one or t’other. If you have gone through male puberty, then you will never not be biologically male. Case closed.
@@titteryenot4524 Er I think we are talking about trans women who are post operative with all the concomitant readjustment and potential trauma that goes with that, not someone who sticks a wig on his head to leer at your daughter. It’s a serious point I’m trying to make, where exactly do you suggest a fully transitioned woman goes? In my leisure centre changing areas have cubicles which are not gender assigned but are lockable and private and after swimming we all use the same showers to rinse off the chlorinated water in our bathing costumes. What’s the problem? If you and your daughter can share a ‘safe space’ private cubicle there surely is no issue.

Please please as a woman who is very close to and cares deeply about a lovely transwoman stop talking about transpeople as an 'issue to be solved' or made to go away. They were born with this, theyve lived their lives feeling they were wrong since early childhood. Most have been through so many therapies, counselling etc etc, even in some cases prayer ministry from churches, yet the only way to make them feel better is to transition. The waiting list from referral to first consult, not treatment, is now over 5 years. The hoops they have to jump through are ridiculous, no other condition is treated this way. On top of that they watch the news, they go on social media and all they hear is how scared people are of them, or that they should be locked away etc etc. ..... do you have any idea what this kind of rhetoric does to a person? Its cruel, its hateful and it needs to stop. The rates of attacks on trans people are escalating, and the suicide rate is skyrocketting. They are somebodies child, spouse, parent, sibling...... stop it now, please!!!
I applaud your compassion. I have two people I love dearly who are trans and they have the most loving, compassionate natures partly due to their experience of living with this. They mean no harm to anyone and would help anyone. It pains me to see the hatred that's being targeted towards trans people knowing that at any time either of the two in my life could be attacked or even murdered. They live in fear of being found out and have already been through enough. Thanks for this, it instills hope in me that many more people will choose to show the same level of compassion.
@marymitchell8986 It is worrying isnt it, i feel for you. I am afraid for the translady I know. She is a nurse, has been for many years pre transition too. She is compassionate and so kind to everyone, as well as so brave, and just seems to manage to deflect the looks and comments, but I know it affects her, and if the antitrans rhetoric continues who knows what will happen.

Angela Rayner is out of her depth when coming up against J K Rowling, and she knows it.
Rayner is not smart!
Is this Mrs Rayner or Mr Rayner 🤣🤣🤣
Vote Reform Party.
JK Rowling - One. A, Rayner - Nil.
Er, no, own goal from the bigot J K.
@@TBrl8what bigotry?
@@HellFire-o4h she hates trans people. She attacks all trans people, based on them being trans, that’s called being bigoted.
@@TBrl8checkmate bigot 😂😂😂😂
Let men be women and women be men if that's what they need.
Angela Rayner is probably the only person in the Labour Party who's ever actually done a day's work
Angela Rayner loves the Is 1am i sation of the UK and the eroding of wo men's spa ces. It's not a coincidence that the two go hand in hand.
WE ARE ALL VOTING REFORM DONT WANT RAYNER
Jk is a real woman
Who writes under a male name for some of her books. 😂
She is a great man!!!
VOTE REFORM.
JKR is not a politician so she cannot intimidate elected officials.
Er, I think you’ll find that sexual violence (and most violence) tends to be one way, Gerard.👍
I'm loving these comments. Brilliant!
Don't vote for the looney labour party
Strange isn't it , i found out this week that the town i live in is going to have a pride celebration weekend , I know a few gay people, 3 being relatives, 2 friends and a couple of acquaintances, i asked a question of them , what do you think of the pride weekend , ?
Some cringed , said do we need this , let em get on with it , i won't be there . 2 said yeah i might go ."
Within 15 months, Starmer will step down, Angela Rayner will become PM and by month 30, they'll be a snap election. Remember folks, it's fully costed.
Nice answer!
The vast majority of women back Rowling.
That is not true

No, they don’t. You’re in a cult.

Im an LGBTQ ally and Its simple transmen are men and transwomen are women. Trans people and lgbtqia groups have the right to live with dignity and without any discrimination in the UK. Trans people are loved.
@@DivineWithin trans men are men and white men are men. Both are men sweetie
@user-gq4vp4im8t I really don't think you meant to actually support trans men with that comment but you did 😂
Rayner is a fool
Another weird person
That turned into a non-story.
I am voting Labour but I hate that they have forgotten what a woman is.
Then why do it. ?
Vote reform ❤🇬🇧
Never will I vote for Tory 2.0.
Any woman that votes Labour, is like a turkey voting for Christmas.
Angela no knickers
That's not true she has enormous fluffy ginger knickers.
