This is beautiful! I need to talk to you about going here at some point. Do you know the name of those grabs that have longer legs, and the carapace was shaped sort of like the shield of a police badge? I've seen one of those at Whytecliffe but didn't know what it was.
Thanks. I think the crabs you are thinking of are northern kelp crabs but I don't recall seeing them at Whytecliff. Maybe their moving in! I'd like to get a few Vancouver freedivers, yourself included out there and a couple of other spots, it's kind of an under utilized resource. You could probably do one of the better dives without even taking your car on the ferry.
Thanks. There are 2 reasons for a surface interval one like SCUBA and the other specific to freediving. So with repeated dives to depth you can absorb enough nitrogen to get the bends. This US Navy did tests on this and even in depths of 20 meters the bends were possible. So the surface interval is meant to prevent this, just like in SCUBA. The other reason is to ensure that your oxygen stores are replenished. I've seen at least one study that showed with repeated breath hold dives some oxygen debt can build up. So it's good to avoid this because lack of oxygen doesn't cause you to want to breath. Lack of oxygen will cause you to pass out and drown.
@@emeraldsky8009 thanks for the explanation! It would be so amazing if you could show how deep you are or how long you stay down for the footage. It's hard to tell but very interesting. I was not expecting 20 meters!
@@leebropro Some of my older videos show times and depths. On this day I wasn't deeper than 14 meters or longer than 90 seconds. I recall the king crabs were at 11 meters. I've done ocean dives to 35 meters and about 3 minutes but that is way outside my normal operating envelope!
Another great and informative video!
as always, thank you for sharing your dive and knowledge
You're welcome. Thanks for always watching and commenting!
@@emeraldsky8009 yw! enjoy them so much feeding the algorithm is the very least I an do!
Awesome footage!
Thanks! I wish we were headed there a week come Monday!
@@emeraldsky8009 Yeah man, agreed. I think that area was my first boat dive. Such a good spot.
Beautiful dive and sharing. 🙏
Thanks.
Stunning footage. Thanks for sharing it 👍
Thanks very much!

Amazing footage!! Pardon my ignorance but why do need a surface interval if you are snorkling ? I thought that was a scuba diver thing ?

nice shots, what camera are you using?
Thanks! I'm using a GoPro Hero 9 with a Backscatter wide angle lens and Suptig 36 LED movie light which you can see on my head.
