I didn't need to remove air box to remove sensor1. I used a different sensor socket and a flex socket adapter and a long extension. The sensor socket I used is much shorter with connector on side (not on top).
Hello!, Great video showed me what I need to do for sure! Only one question though, is this whats considered the up-flow sensor, or down-flow? Is this the sensor before, or after the Cat Converter?
Dante that's the actual secondary air pump that needs replaced. On a Passat or A4 it is behind the lower bumper on the passenger side, under the airbox. Mine had the same problem, and most likely it's the pump itself. However, it could be just the hose that goes to the pump from the airbox
+Dante Lopardo on my car (B5.5 Passat, 1.8 FWD) the VW/Audi brand pump is nearly $650. However, you can get a pump for $170 brand new and the quality is virtually identical. ecstuning.com is where I priced my pump from.
+Dante Lopardo If just the air hose leading from air box to pump is bad the only source is genuine VW/Audi hose, and that piece of plastic, IIRC, is about $60.
so I have a 2002 Passat 1.8t 4 cylinder and I accidentally ran it out of gas and I put a lil bit just to get me to the gas station but didn't so my dad dumped a lil bit of gas I think on the air filter or around there and it was turning it over but didn't stay on so he pushed my car with his and kind of bumped my car hella hard a few different times but anyways we got there and I put a half a tank and it wouldn't start and it still won't and I don't kno wat to do I hope its not the fuel pump
Deebo Yaboy can be one of many things, fuel pump sounds it could be one. If you have 4 cylinder engine, your fuel pump is located in the trunk, there is a small round cover there. Tell your dad to turn the ignition to on, without cranking, while you listen in the trunk. When he turns ignition to on, you should hear the fuel pump turn on for maybe 2 seconds. Could be air in the fuel line also.
And now i can go do it myself. Thank you

I wish you would have put in the description you were doing the upstream not the downstream.

upstream is before the catalytic converter, downstream is after. This is upstream.
awesome video...thanks!
My check engine light has lead to "secondary air pump failure" for about 6 years. Will this fix it?

+Ryan Arbuckle how much does this normally cost?

OK I'll let u kno
99% of what you did you didn't have to do, and you should specify what o2 sensor. This video is the equivalent of "how to open a door"
All this work is unnecessary. I only removed the cover and heatshield, and was able to remove O2 sensor with a sensor socket tool- 7/8" or 22mm.
It is the Bank 1 sensor. Mine is an '02 Passat 1.8 turbo.
Lol talk about making a simple job complicated. None of those parts need removed and this job is about a full 20 minutes including splicing the wires
george delgado , sure if you want to struggle and not have enough room
