    I tried the knee against the steering wheel trick but deactivated it unintentionally on a turn so I will never do that again. I just move the volume up and down when the nag comes on now. I can't wait for it to go away. I think it would be safer without that requirement. It can monitor attentiveness with the camera. The nag just draws my attention to the screen and to satisfying it instead of the road. If I actually kept my hands on the wheel all the time as I'm supposed to 1) it would defeat the purpose of a self driving system and 2) it increases the chances of unintentional deactivations, which are much more dangerous than just trusting the system to work properly.

    I have used FSD every day for the last 2 years. It's great. Don't get me wrong, though - it is FAR from 'perfect'. I know all the spots it usually struggles with, and I am more than confident with the system even with its shortcomings. I've used it all over the USA on my many long-distance (3,000 to 5,000 miles each) road trips. City driving is great. Highway driving has DRASTICALLY improved. But, the biggest struggle FSD has is rural routes. It simply does not do well. In many rural areas.
    I'd even wager that the current version has slipped backwards in some instances.
    Very eagerly awaiting FSD V12, and HW4 in my soon-to-be-mine CyberTruck (in the first 10k orders)

      I’ve been using FSD (v10-11..) daily, for almost 2 years on my M3P too. Hey , how clueless are people when they talk about FSD . It’s either tesla drivers who think their free base autopilot is somehow the same as FSD , or random people who get all their information from TikTok. “FSD is dangerous and morally wrong”. Like shut up loser , have fun in traffic this afternoon 🦧 🤡 😂 . God ppl are so dumb. I bet if you went back to the year 2000 and told people we would have self driving cars they would have been like “no way that’s great ! the future is just like science fiction ” … yet 2024 “meh self driving car is bad i don’t see the point “. Anyways, keep enjoying the robot 🤖 chauffeur .

  • @Integr8d
    @Integr8d 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +13

    I think zipper merge does what it’s supposed to: go to the end. In LA, we frequently have drivers who preemptively cut over, not realizing that they’re just extending their own drive by doing that. If everyone zippered at the end of the merge, the left-hand lane would have a much smoother experience. The question is: had there been a car perpendicular to you, what would FSD have done? Probably only Tesla can answer.

      I am originally from Missouri but have lived in California since 1984. California doesn’t promote zipper merge, I’m not sure why. Missouri’s Department of Transportation (MDOT) actually prescribes zipper merge in construction zones. I’ve seen it during annual visits to family. WHY I ALL states do mandate zipper merge is beyond me. If everyone KNOWS what’s expected during the merge, lot less road rage. Had one elderly lady cuss me out because I didn’t get in line like a lemming.

    Just one question: how much does FSD satisfy you as a user rather than a tech geek? I mean, in the end you are paying Tesla for working for them, for doing some kind of testing work which a normal company would have to pay people in order they would do it!

To answer your question, if I wasn't filming videos as a tech geek & voluntarily giving my time away (I get pennies on the dollar for the time I put into editing the videos), I would still be satisfied with FSD. Even though it's still a little bit on the "experimental" side, I do find it useful, and I love to show it off to other people. It gets me excited whenever I use it, and if it's a known area and I'm not in a rush (TWO VERY IMPORTANT FACTORS), then I always use it off-camera, for pleasure.

    I have a suggestion and if you agree maybe you can somehow get it to Tesla. As you note, we can classify situations on a spectrum from hard to relatively easily for FSD to manage. Currently, it seems like the idea is to keep improving FSD to handle all these situations and then somehow prove to regulators that it's safer, significantly safer than humans. But what if the software created a green zone where FSD can easily manage. Tesla could do this in an workable state. Even start with a stretch of Interstate. The software identifies the green zone and you don't have to keep your knee on the wheel or whatever. You need data to show FSD is safer. With that data, you can start building these green areas with greater and greater coverage. You have your foot in the door. I drive b/n Raleigh NC and Arlington on i85 and i95. Nearly all could be green (even though for politics, this would not be a good start). IOW, start taking bites.

For the camera setup in this video, the GoPro is essentially mounted right in front of my face. 😬This is not only unsafe, but it makes for a very awkward driving experience. I would definitely not recommend filming this way if you're new to FSD Beta, or if you're uncertain about how it will operate on certain roads. But, whatever you do, please share your videos with me! I think the software is relying too much on the right lane markings. The opposite of what you said about merging is also evident, even in Auto-Steer (not FSD). On a straight road staying in a. single lane (center lane a turn lane), the vehicle always want to move the right if the line marker say starts to move the right for just a cross road. Why? The vehicle is not turning. It assumes it should always be the right lane for some reason. Stay in the lane unless navigating further up. Otherwise, stay in the lane just like a human would do.

    My problem with FSD is that it does not scale well. It is completely useless here in Europe. Everyone who bought it wasted 10K.

    Begging your pardon, but FSD has been a thing for, like 6 years or more, and they still call is Beta -- how is that even remotely accurate. Is Windows 11 a Beta version of Windows?
    I watched another FSD video a couple weeks ago that was shot in San Francisco, which is right in Tesla's backyard, and within the 15 minute video FSD had to be interrupted by the driver to prevent FSD from hitting parked cars -- it also blew through a stop sign and did so at way more than the typical California rolling stop. In 2018 Musk stated, without and hedging at all, that FSD could take you from CA to NY with the driver never interrupting FSD -- in 2023 that's still not possible. BTW, how much does it cost to add FSD to the car at time of purchase? My understanding is that FSD is about $15K by itself -- so you the owner of the car are giving Tesla $15K, not for FSD, but for the promise of FSD. And, many years later we still do not have true FSD.
    Also, while you can pat yourself on the back for making a drive like this I might remind you that Tesla has released video that purports to show fully functional FSD more than 5 years ago. You can cherry pick a route and time of day and doing so might make it look like FSD is where it needs to be, but plenty of other videos show that even places that Tesla should be 100% familiar with and FSD is still trying to hit parked cars and kids riding bikes!

    It’s terrible at stop signs. Horrible at turns on red lights, drives into pullover lane on freeway thinking it’s a lane, says weather issues when glass is clean with no sun or clouds. The worst is if you are going say 70 (65mph limit), the. Part of highway goes to 50 or 54, tesla essentially slams on the breaks to meet new speed limit when every car on road stays at 70, causing honks and near misses.

    Is this the self driving software that was just recalled because it’s not self driving software, and not as safe as Tesla would like you to think?

    • @techgeektesla1854
      @techgeektesla1854  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Don't let the main stream media fool you. Automated driving features with Tesla are very safe and often TOO safe. The recall was voluntary. When you update apps on your smartphone, do you consider that a recall? An update was released to include additional warnings and to help monitor drivers' behavior through the in-cabin DMS. The recall helps with 2 things: (1) Prevents misuse from people who abuse the system, and (2) Prevents misuse from people who are unfamiliar with the automated features. Is it a car manufacturer's responsibility to prevent people from driving while drunk? Tesla's automated features are SAE Level 2, which means the driver is in control and 100% fully responsible for driving the vehicle. Should Tesla also include a breathalyzer in their cars?

    I'm sorry but Tesla is doing it wrong on how they train the autopilot from the beginning. First of all, there is this term called "crowdsourcing". The training data itself needed to be collected by the Tesla drivers from all over the world itself. Every driver reaction to unknown circumstances will be processed and then Autopilot will be trained. Therefore not only you'll be having the most optimum driver software, you'll be having different driver versions for each country very fast. The way they train is old school and that's how aviation software is being trained. That's why there is this saying "Aviation regulations are written in blood." The reason is that somebody needs to die in order for you to update the aviation software. People are having accidents and dying for Tesla to have their autopilot software updated. Do you see where I'm going?

      I don't think it matters when Version 12 arrives (or 13 or 14 for that matter). Those are all just numbers. The only important question is; when will it work? I mean, when will it work according to Musk's own definition (send it out at night, driverless, to act as a 'robotaxi'). I think this is still a decade or two away and it will likely not be Tesla that first achieves it.

    Don’t be fooled by this driving condition. The city driving with cars double parked left and right with buses passing by is far from being automated on its own. I won’t ever depend on it in the big city, and this is from my own experience with the current updated version. I’d give 10 blocks or 10 minutes of this autopilot in nyc for an accident to happen when left alone

    A fun note about Starbucks in Sweden:
    They came here in 2010, thinking they could take over in one of the most coffee drinking countries in the world. Worth noting: Almost no one eat and drink in the car here.
    They expanded a lot.
    They started closing down.
    Now, we have one at the largest airport and three close to each other in the capital center.
    I bet they will be out of here within a few years.
