Honestly, after watching Steve and Taks game on Play On it really got me wanting to try Anvil Siege. It's awesome to hear that it did well outside of a more casual environment too.
I run a similar core in my lists usually. 2 10 man blocks of heavy intercessors, one with garadon, one with a captain with architect of war (ignores cover). Adding captains to the heavy intercessor squads kinda helps them out with their issue of not being a massive threat in melee, too. Then, I like to throw another captain into a sternguard squad in a transport, for the 2cp re-roll wounds stratagem. Captain spam, in general is just great for the anvil siege force. Good stuff, Steve. There is great honour in sticking to your guns and saying "screw the meta!"
I think UIltramarines is the premier subfaction to run Anvil Siege Force with, because the unique heroes (Calgar, Sicarius) have movement related abilities. Some units to consider: Desolation Squad: indirect with synergy with stationary. Devastator Squad: points efficient 4x Lascannon shots to occupy a firing lane, heavy. Sternguard Veteran squad: points efficient 22 shots with Dev wounds, heavy.

Ian! Steve! Care to riff on a sportsmanship dilemma I recently faced at my local game store? I play gladius SM and I was playing a game against a hypercrypt Necron player. Long edge deployment, and I went first. My 10 man brick of Hellblasters with LT and fire discipline got a good enough advance to get an angle on one of his units of Skorpekh destroyers and picked up the whole unit (but left the Lord), my lancer and predator annihiltor also teamed up and, to a wound, killed his doomsday ark, and my redeemer vroomed across no man’s land, dumped its load of terminators, and picked up another squad of skorpekh destroyers on its own. The guy still had a ton of warriors, a monolith in deep strike, and the nightbringer, but started complaining about how my list was OP and there was no counter to it and the game was over and how could I even have fun playing such an unfun list, and he said we should just pick up and be done. I tried to say we could play it out, but he was adamant he wanted to be done so I started putting away my models. All the while he kept complaining how Hellblasters are OP and there was nothing he could do. Just as I was putting away my last squad, he suddenly asked if I was sure I didn’t want to rerack. At that point I was pretty annoyed at his complaining and that he had waited until I was done packing up to change his mind about a rerack, so I said no. Anyway, is there any better way to handle that kind of situation? Do I need to feel bad about ultimately leaving? Thank you for coming to my ted talk. Stoked to hear about Steve’s anvil weekend!!!!
Its a hard one, sounds like you did to him what he was hoping to do to you. Sometimes you can loose in deployment and it sounds like they just didn't think about how to take an alpha strike 1st turn, like you had set up. Maybe suggest a strategy to help him. like hiding his units in a more defensive position so they are less targetable or just outflanking them if there is a for sure turn 1 threat they cant deal with. And also sometimes people are in bad moods and cant be helped. I think you did the right thing. Avoided confrontation, no need to add salt to the wound ( necron don't rust but you get it). Let the guy chill. Replay him another day when he cools off, hopefully the dust has settled. Also Hellblasters can feel OP when shooting at there optimal target. But I don't think they can actually fall into that category. Sounds like you just counter deployed and had the positioning to make the most of your stuff. well done.
Sometimes you get lucky. Sounds like he may have 'mis-deployed' a lot of his stuff to be able to get those angles? I mean, if you put your stuff in the open and lose first turn, and get blown out. It's not your fault as the first player. He also gets a 'redeploy of a few units right?' I'm guessing that he wasn't using his own rules properly. Losing 500pts'ish on Turn 1 is really tough. But not insurmountable. He drops down the Monolith, and picks up your Hellblasters (230+95 = 325), he's back in it. Plus once he starts removing some of your more deadly threats, his Reanmiation Protocols become a bigger thorn in your side. He could totally have played it out. I think you were in the right continuing to pack up and leave. I'd usually just say something like, "I've only allotted enough time for one game today. After set up and turn 1, I don't have time to start another today." Straight and to the point.
I think the reason the Gravis works so well is because they are so hard to shift off an objective. You need units who can take and hold objectives, withstand enemy firepower and make use of that +1 to hit and wound once they are on an objective. Terminator and Centurions are really tough but don't have the Heavy profile you want for their range weapons.
My 7 year old roots for Steve when he plays 40K in 40 minutes
So do I 🥲
Hmm it does really rely on the added toughness of Gravis and the character inclusion of Gravis characters. That being said anything is possible.

Why no Whirlwind? Oath of the Moment makes the indirect fire nerf irrelevant.
Would you consider Anvil Siege Force if you weren’t running Gravis? I’m thinking of running Crimson Fists in either Gladius or Anvil.
So... would you like to tell us where you usually put the characters and who goes in the transports???
Haven't started the vid yet but if it's not crimson fists ill be upset

Wouldn't Calgar, and Ventris add more value than tor Garadon in anvil siege force?
Those characters are super awesome yes. But theres something to be said about imperial fist Tor Garadon playing his own detachment.
Which GT Steve?
