I use Poise pads for bladder leaks and knew these homemade ones would work well and save me money. So, using what I have on hand I made my first one today and cut out cores for 35 more! I used a cotton topper, 4 layers of flannel, 1 layer of a piece of upholstery fabric and then anti-pill fleece. Upholstery fabric? What? Yes! I get lots of free swatches from a local furniture store and it so happens that some are perfect for pads! (squishy and soft with a water resistant backing) I wish I could post pictures here to show you! Thank you for the video!
I've watched so many videos on making cloth pads. Yours is my favorite. No fussing or making things overly complicated. Strange shapes or "making your own fabrics...ect. they are a reliable shape and don't take long to make. Both very important if you have a stash to make & have a busy life outside of having periods. Lol (I think that's all of us). One extra step I seem to like, is to sew flow lines into my top & fill layer prior to doing the back & PUL layer. Especially since my pads that include PUL are for longer wear or heavy flow needs.
Flow line is just a straight line across the top. But ONLY sewn through the topper and the core, NOT pul (if you are using) and backer. Otherwise you will ruin the pad and will bleed through. Flow line might help the blood to stay in the middle.
One thing I'll add for other people reading the comments: maybe it was the cotton I used, maybe I just don't scrub enough, but I used light colored cotton and there are light stains that I haven't been able to get out. I'm okay with this, but I'm making some more and I'm going to be using dark cotton so that leftover stains aren't as noticeable. Thank you so much, Hedi! I made some pads using this video and they're WONDERFUL! I also use your cleaning method. This video is my go-to, and I love how sparkly your nails are. :)
Thank you for this, I made my first pad last night with the hidden pul. I made a bunch of liners for myself but did not hide the pul, and I found that they are slippery with the pul against the undies...so now I will be hiding it! I’m making pads for Operation Christmas Child boxes, for the older girls.
@@ScotiaGirl902 you mean after sewing, before wearing? I pre wash all my fabrics so I don't pre wash my pad that I made myself. But when you buy a pad I'd recommend prewashing, just incase
Just wondering what this pads absorbancy level is....ex. moderate, heavy? Do you know the gsm on the zorb heavy duty? Great video!! Looks so much easier to sew than the shbf that I'm using ❤
Very simple & great video! Thanks. I am on my husband's account right now and was wondering what type of pinky shear are you using? Seems to cut very well and I would like to purchase the same one. Ha!

I need to make some of these. Thank you so much for this instructional video! Can you tell me exactly which zorb 3D fabric to get at Wazoodle? I see that there are three or four to choose from. Bamboo, Cotton, Lite. Also I see they've come out with a 4D. Have you tried that? If so, do you like it better than the 3D?
Hi, glad you like the video 😁. I have only ever used the zorb original or zorb dimples. I'm sorry I cant help you more. But there are so many great groups on Facebook who have people who know a lot more 😁 I hope you try making some, life changing!
hi! Thank you so much for this video. Just wondering, why does the shiny side of the PUL go down? Will there be leak if I ever accidentally put it the other way? Might be a stupid question, sorry if it is.
In reality it doesn't matter which way you put it. But when putting it together this way, the shiny side ends up towards the core (once it's sewn and turned out. This way the shiny side gets in contact with the core and keeps the liquids in (when dove the other way the fabric side is towards the core and while it will also keep the liquids in, it might disperse the liquids, because the fabric might absorbed some..... But really it doesn't matter a whole lot. It will all be stopped by the shiny layer eventually 😊😊😊
I have 'pretty' PUL fabric, so the fabric side of it has a picture printed on it, the shiny side is white. Could I skip the fleece layer & just have PUL, core & cotton topper? Or would this not work? Lovely clear instructions thank you.
sure you can. The only downside I've found doing it like that is that the PUL is slippery as a backer and the pad might move while wearing. But certainly try 😊
Hi, I would still use this as moderate, but I'd say you can use it for heavy as it has the PUL layer. Normally I'd add 1 more layer of core (absorbent) layer, just to have even more absorbency.
Polyurethane laminate, it's a waterproof fabric. Originally used and made for hospitals for breathable bed liners but waterproof. But now PUL is widely used for Cloth Pads and baby nappies
Polyurethane Laminate - waterproof layer, it's thin and still breathable. Its also used to make waterproof sheets for beds, for when you might have night time "accidents". It is great for preventing any kind of leaks.

Id add PUL lining
more layers of the zorb fabric.

Why extend the PUL all the way to the edges/tabs...? So long as it covers the backing, it should be leak-proof...?
Hi. Yes it is. But I do it for extra security. And easyes to sew 👍

After the pad is turned correctly, is the shiny side of the PUL against the absorbent core or is the shiny side of the PUL against the backing?
Shiny side is against the core
Hola buen día como se llama el relleno q lleva la toallita en la mitad cómo se llama ese material
Can plastic sheet instead of PUL be used for water proofing?
I wouldn't, because it won't be breathable.

Hi, I would still use this as moderate, but I'd say you can use it for heavy as it has the PUL layer. Normally I'd add 1 more layer of core (absorbent) layer, just to have even more absorbency.
Pul fabric how to purchasing this item?
I have bought online, you have to search online...

Fine mam
Is it ok to use invisible thread on these pads?
Hi, I haven't tried, but why not... Give it a go 😁
Does the topper go against the skin?
Yes, the pretty cotton topper goes against your skin
Can you machine wash these?
Yes, absolutely. But not hot wash, as hot sets blood stains, and no fabric softener as this reduces the absorbency.
@@HediSalm thank you :)
Sorry but I had to watch the video muted. The music is loud, especially when you speak. Your work is very easy to follow though. Thank you. 👍

What snaps do you use? Amazon?
You can look up KAM snaps... Should be a lot of Choice (T5 / size 20 is what I use)
So is the waterproof side the side you would put on your underwear? Aka do you bleed on the patterned side or the black side?
The waterproof layer (white) will actually be hidden when turned. The cotton (patterned) side will go against your skin
What's pul
It's a waterproof yet breathable fabric.
PUL stands for polyurethane laminate
