Yesterday in downtown Vancouver a man decapitated a man and chopped off the hand of another man at 7am in the morning in a place where offices & restaurants, coffee shops are located. I decided I gotta get out of this demonic mess. This is happening so much more in Canada and I no longer feel safe.

I live in Georgia. When I was in a taxi trying to retrace my steps to find my lost phone the driver said "Don't worry, you will get your phone back. It's 5 years in prison for stealing a phone. Nobody steals phones." He was correct of course. I see the news from my old country and I hang my head in shame. How far we sank, and how little we are willing to learn from places that do things so much better.

Metro-Atlanta, Georgia was safe, until it wasn't. Caseinpoint; a year ago in My hometown, which is also the hometown of Atlanta Motor Speedway, which was as close to Mayberry as it can be "was" safe, until one morning a neighbor shot and killed four of his neighbors and injured a couple other neighbors. Two, a man and wife were within six-months of retirement.
More recently, a drive-by shooting occurred in the same community.
But, most recently, in east/northeast Metro-Atlanta, another high-school shooting occurred, claiming the lives of two students and two teachers as well as nine people injured.
On an almost weekly basis, in Metro-Atlanta, Georgia; there are multiple instances of shootings and killings.
Yet, when people ask; "is Latin America safe?"
    My reply is:"compared to where?"

You have a very self serving attitude. Western governments let you protest or 'express yourself'to the extent that it doesn't threaten their sacred cows. France says it's a crime to deny the Armenian genocide. And westerners have the hubris to claim they are a bastion of free thought and expression.

A "dump" is pushing it a bit, but yes, the general quality of life has fallen considerably with the annual nationwide arrival of roughly 80,000 legal immigrants (think the town of St.Gallen), 40,000 asylum seekers, and close to 350,000 cross-border workers coming to CH nationwide every day. Key issues are a severe housing shortage, soaring rents, overcrowded roads and public transport, and an extreme cost of living particularly since the impact of recent inflation and price gouging. Too many people for a small country that consists of two thirds mountains. I would still rather live here than in most of the UK these days.

For many people, the adage "home is where the heart is" still holds true - think family and friends, it's not just about tax savings and money. IMO, the first step when faced with social and economic issues and/or crime in a country is to see whether moving somewhere else within that same country might dramatically improve the situation, prior to to heading for new uncertain shores. The grass is not necessarily greener elsewhere, and although you might indeed have almost zero crime in Oman or Dubai, the caveat is an extremely unpleasant climate most of the year that makes outdoor activities very difficult - not to mention cultural issues that are somewhat asymmetric with what you might be accustomed to in the West. You'll be living in a stuffy expat bubble in such places.
Much of Western Europe is struggling with the adverse consequences of mass migration from third world countries, particularly since ex-Chancellor Angela Merkel (Germany) literally welcomed hundreds of thousands of migrants with open arms back in September 2015, without any background checks whatsoever. Food for thought. What the European politically correct crowd in resolute woke-mode systematically denies, is that a large part of rising crime levels can be directly attributed to the illegal immigrants, most of whom simply do not fit in with our way of life, and many of whom tend to resort to knives when things don't go their way, or because they dislike our freedoms. See what is happening in Germany these days, where the present government does not seem to know what to do about it. At least Sweden and Denmark have now taken decisive action to correct their respective critical situations with regard to this difficult issue.
Because of the highly questionable fully open Schengen borders ("more Europe"...yeah, right), Switzerland is of course no exception to this trend, with much of the crime that occurs here being "imported" from France - think burglary "tourism", or muggers on day excursions in places such as Basel (national crime hotspot), where your situational awareness skills will be essential these days in a city run by people with a soft approach to criminals. It's all relative though, particularly when you start comparing crime rates in various countries. Switzerland is still an extremely safe place to live, particularly in the suburbs. Last but not least, you can legally own handguns in the land of Heidi to keep your home safe if worst comes to the worst. Each to their own, of course.

These Middle Eastern countries with very low crime have very low crime because it's not tolerated. Draconian punishments. Hence virtually no crime. Other places like Japan and Singapore -- it's an ethnic thing. Likewise for Scandinavia (if you take out non-white immigrants and the places they live in). But parts of the USA are becoming uninhabitable for law-abiding people -- Chicago and Minneapolis, for example. The USA is interesting in that if you take out non-white violent crime, the stats reduce to European levels.

safety or illusion of safety? Not going to mention which country, but some of the countries on the list simply don't allow the news and media reporting on the crime actually happening in the country. What is more dangerous? Being unsafe or illusion of safety?

I seen the Travel Risk Summary from Texas A&M It shows what countries to avoid and why But they don’t show where in the USA to avoid Saudi Arabia is on the list but it’s more like be aware of your surroundings which is better than the USA

Living in Japan it’s extremely safe here…but god the rules are insane sometimes. Now you can go to jail for three years for riding a bike while drunk.

Riding while using your phone is up to 1 year in prison.

How are the Middle Eastern countries, "the friendliest, nicest safe places" for women? In Southern Italy I literally shoked local men because I spoke to them as an equal. They couldn't comprehend it. I wonder how long I'd last in a Middle Eastern country.

"your Slovak citizenship through descent, that's actually on of the safer countries on here too and then you could live in Estonia, you could live in Slovenia" - my man changed in blink of an eye from Slovakia to Slovenia, totally different countries :) I mean you could live and work in Slovenia while being a Slovak citizen, but you must have a work contract otherwise you will be restricted to a max of 90 days as a tourist (I think the period is 90 days in a "rolling period" of 180 days). It is still way better to have a slight confusion in the presentation between Slovakia and Slovenia than between Czech Republic and Chechnya :)
Both Slovakia and Slovenia are very nice central European countries, safe. The difficulty for obtaining the citizenship would be learning the local language: Slavic family of languages (I like the Russian pronunciation the most, Slovakia, Slovenia have different pronunciation).
