cant believe the software is this good for that time, the little lego block connection details in that scratch like editor are just so pretty, wish something like this would be implemented in today's app design, the minimalism is just making it all look so the same nowdays.. incredible video as always
Eureka. I managed to get the Lego Studios camera to work in vision command. I just connected the tower to another USB port and installed the Vision command XP software with the camera drivers again. There was some conflict with the previously used USB ports. Now I can run the tower and the camera studios at the same time. I'm using the lego studios camera, the usb tower, XP command vision software, RIS2.0 and windows XP in virtualbox 7.0. I hope this comment adds information to the video for anyone who wants to explore this incredible Lego robotics kit even today. Thank you for sharing this video!!!
I love these videos because they show me sets I always wanted but could never afford. I just botched my own version of it by modding lego bricks, for example this set I drilled a hole in a 2x4 brick and attached a camera screw and used my own webcam in a very similar way, but it's very interesting to see what the actual set had to offer.
@@NonsenseWars Sadly I didn't have any access to the lego software. I used some program that came with the logitech webcam that also had motion/color detection zones, which I used to trigger batch files that would control a home-made dacta-like control thing (a 9v power supply, bunch of relays and printer port with a bunch of resistors to trigger the relays), which in turn controlled my lego motors.
I managed to recently get the RIS 1.5, Vision Command and Ultimate Accessory Set for total of 120€. There was also a second RCX-brick, the 1.0 version with the wire connector plug in there.
Great video - I think overall this probably gives a very real feel for the problems faced by the ‘real’ computer vision/remote control systems (20 years ago anyway) and thus even the problems/limitations are quite educational
The Camera Studios works alone, but with the IR tower it generates USB conflict. Is there a solution for using a studios camera together with an ir tower?
@@NonsenseWarsturns out i’m bot the first to do it, but i’m not complaining. How did you get the frame rate running smoothly on the camera tho? I also had trouble with the ultimate builder’s set and DDK. Is it quick time player?
@@NonsenseWars i won’t lie to you, my vision command’s framerate is doodoo. How do i fix this? Yours was running so smooth in the video… i need help from the master!
@@thomaslouis7824 Hmm, what are you running it on and what part is slow? We did have problems (which we could not fix) with the camera being extremely slow in the Exploration Mars integration, but the standalone app seemed to be fine.
This is actually interesting because we put "Guerre de Nonsense" when we installed the French version, but it persisted after we installed the English version over it. So both versions use the same file structure (and file structure language) AND it doesn't clean it out if you reinstall it. Maybe a bug maybe a feature lol
Yes, we know it's German and not French.

We did have some suspicion that it would work, but no way to verify. Well done, and thanks for sharing too!
Oh, man, i guess i’m not the first to get it to work. Lol! If you haven’t already, i think i’ll make a step-by-step video.

That's a pretty good deal!
That was actually German version I think
Yea that’s German not French this guy is a 🤓that skipped geography

Yeah, I'd even say it's fairly powerful considering what they had to work with.
I really hope that Lego releases a camera for Spike Prime
I don't think they've made another camera since Vision Command/Steven Spielberg. Could be wrong though.
The studios camera doesn't work in vision command?
where you said you installed a french version of the software, you actually installed a german version (at least on the video)
Yeah, it's clearly German. I think the site we downloaded from said French and we never looked at the text itself.
The Camera Studios works alone, but with the IR tower it generates USB conflict. Is there a solution for using a studios camera together with an ir tower?
Unfortunately our Steven Spielberg camera didn't seem to work at all, so we weren't able to even try to find a solution.
I still hace my vision command of way back when.... is there any use to it today without the date PC? Is there a newer versión oficial this set?
There's definitely no newer version... you can probably run it in a VM, but we haven't played around with that.
I figured out how to install vision command to a windows xp machine. I think i’ll post a tutorial.
We ran it on XP as well. Should be pretty straightforward!
