Brooklyn turned around in the 90s as Mayor Giuliani took the gloves off with the dark criminal factions that ruled the borough. the 90s and early 2000s saw floods of aspiring White Americans settle into once decrepit ghetto warzones, attracted to the mysteries of Brooklym. It was a Reconquista in it's own right.

Very enjoyable to watch. Thank you. As an ardent fan of Spike Lee, and coming from England, I've always been intrigued as to why S L talks so passionately and respectfully about Brooklyn. I want to visit all those streets in Bed Stuy that are named after famous people and films such as Quincy Street, Marcus Garvey Boulevard, Malcolm X Blvd, Do The Right Thing Way etc.
Great footage of the streets and older beautiful buildings especially between 8:18 and 8:40.
I really enjoyed watching this. It would have been great to see some of the street names that I mentioned, but it doesn't matter. There's a gritty, down to earth feeling to that place; people just doing their thing.
How safe is it around these areas, especially at night, and especially for overseas tourists?

I actually grew up here (5:35). I lived on Lincoln Place at Ralph Ave. from 1951-1963. Many of the buildings on St. John's Place from then are still here, but the Congress movie theater is gone, as is the Petach Tikvah synagogue on Rochester and Lincoln. No more A&P super market on St. John's and Utica. My first savings account was in the East New York Savings bank on Utica at Eastern Parkway (the grey building on the right at 2:29).

There were many bus stops in the video, and towards the end he was driving under the J/M/Z line (that was the elevated tracks you see in the video). There's tons of mass transit here and maybe you didn't see too much in the video because you have to know what you're looking for (what our bus stop signs look like here and subway entrances often blend in as well, plus driving you miss a lot of stuff), if you don't bus stop signs will just blend in with the millions of other signs.
