  • More Modelling for Beginners, the second basic modelling series and this time we are building an Airfix 1/48 P-51 Mustang with some slight aftermarket upgrades.
Aimed at less experienced modellers looking to expand their skillset with lots of detail through all the stages of build and paint. In this video, I introduce the build and the upgrades.

The Mosquito series was great so looking forward to this. Especially how you tackle the natural metal. That's always something I struggle with.

Hi. I am Thomas from Germany and I enjoy your Videos very much. Now I ordered the Airfix Mustang with all the additions. I am looking forward to get started to build this kit with you.

Looking forward to the build. I ordered the extras sense they seem to be not to complicated to use and have wanted to try using photo etch. The 3d panel does look really good.

Ready to go but without any extras, for me it's going to be more an exercise in painting and weathering. Really looking forward to starting!

The extras are certainly not mandatory! I will probably do the kit parts as well anyway

Looking forward to this one. You might just inspire me to build "another" Mustang. Peace

I am looking forward to following along and learning how to put down a decent paint finish on something like this.

Well, I would certainly like to join. I'm across the pond, and I don't have the new Airfix kit handy. I do have a 1987 Fujimi boxing with decals for a squadron mate - E2*S ( Lieutenant Urban L. (“Ben”) Drew ). I have the Verlinden update set for it, along with some True Details wheel and a Squadron canopy ( if I need it ). I realize I would be a little bit behind and hopefully the decals are still usable.

That could be an interesting counterpoint, I'd love to see it done! And you will catch up I'm sure

I love the Quinta Studios 3D decals. Far more effective than etch. I do think though that they are better in 1/32 scale. Some washes really helps bed them in.

Managed to bag the OD and BMF boxing with the Mustang motif on the yellow tail from MFS at the same price so I guess I'm on the bus! It's a cool scheme. Should be fun. Those Brassin wheels are a smart move as sorting the seam line on the tread on the kit wheels could be tricky. Not sure how much of the cockpit you'll see though.

By luck, I have a 1/48 Tamiya Mustang with the same decal sets, so I will follow along using that kit. Will see about Eduard upgrades for that kit as well - cheers!

With quinoa and other 3d sets. After they've been out in, you can go over them with a dark wash( more pain wash) also add some dust and nicks in the paint. If wanna see some spectacular use of those 3d sets, check out Doogs models and his 32nd A6 intruder. He added 3d printed knobs and switches and it looks amazing. Just like decals on the aircraft, you have to weather them too.

Looking forward to this build, I've got the kit in ready to go. Not sure if I'll get the aftermarket bits for it yet but I've never used the 3D decals so I guess this would be a good place to start.

Lovely update video Jen thankyou 😁👍
I'm really looking forward to seeing this build and seriously considering joining in too.
Silly question but I'm assuming we wait for the first video to come out, then start your own build using it as a guide?
    Thanks for posting.
    Take care
    Bobby

It's entirely up to you, but if you watch my videos before doing your own build then you might hopefully pick up useful information to help your own model along.

@@JenesisDesignsandModelcraft yep, that's why I'm interested as you are never too old to learn! I tried to get the space set from hannants but they have run out (although I struggle on their site! It's rubbish!) I'll probably build it OOTB and watch how you fit it on your model.
      Thanks Jen. 👍

Hoping Airfix can replace a complete tree C from this kit as just opened mine to check it. Tree C looks like it was injected into a “dirty mould” possible residual plastic left in it. Each and every part is heavily pitted. Did consider filler might resolve things but its going to take forever trying to do that. Airfix have acknowledged my request but up to 28 day wait and that is if the parts are available. :-(

The kit is in the current catalogue, so shouldn't be an issue hopefully. Fingers crossed ...

Another fine video, however, I'd like to ask a question. You may have mentioned it and I simply missed it but why did you buy that aftermarket a) at all and b) as opposed to other pieces of aftermarket? Personally, if this was my second kit I possibly wouldn't have bought the wheels. I appreciate the eduard space set as aftermarket should feature as part of your journey f4om beginner to advances somewhere.
    Thans Jen

I've added aftermarket for two reasons. One is that a lot of commenters felt it would add value, and the second is that not many videos really show how to use things like that.
