    I’ve been following your channel for at least twelve years and I have never thanked you for your works and labors that go into your work. Thank you Jason ! Your travels to all the locations that you cover in our nation are deeply appreciated and Im sure inspire younger generations to pursue the realm of agriculture being a viable lifestyle. Another good video today!

    Im a case ih guy but i can say that these were a great machine just like the 9600’s and 9610’s that followed them. You won’t catch a green combine on our farm but my uncle and cousin run them and I can’t say too many bad words about them

    Beautiful video. That takes me back to my childhood. I remember an 8820 pulling into the field next to us running our old CII. That thing looked like it was racing through the field. Always wanted one. Never did run a Titan but I was pretty happy when we upgraded to a '78 model 7700 a few years later.

  • @lynwessel2471
    @lynwessel2471 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

    The Turbo decal of course indicated a turbocharged diesel as did the Turbo 7700. We had a 7700 followed by 2 consecutive yellow roof 7720s. Second one was a deal as it was bought new at 1 1/2 years old during the farm crisis. (I think the Titan II was already available) The most trouble free combines we ever ran. 9500,9600 also very reliable. Then they started making the "electronic princesses".

    Just a recommendation, film some sidehill combines harvesting wheat in the Palouse/Walla Walla region of SE Washington. Not only breathtaking scenery, but some of the steepest hills you’ve ever seen a machine working on.
    I spent the summer out there in my RV and rode on quite a few combines. It was so easy to pull up into a field and talk to one of the guys sitting in the grain truck and ask if you can take some pictures. Next thing you know they will ask you if you want to take a ride on the machine itself…uh, yes, please!
    Farming in the Midwest, where I’m from with corn, wheat, and soybeans is child’s play compared to the hills those combines operate on. I think the kids would call it X-treme farming.

    As you can see how fast this guy is going the 8820 needs a 30ft head. Spent thousands of hours in a Titan II 8820. It doesn't like tough green stem soybeans but what bine does? The weak link is the clean grain elevator. Couldn't get the clean grain away fast enough in corn and will spit it out the back. Ours had duals, tip top grain bin extensions and an agleader yield monitor, also had Kuchner modifications done all over it. Not to mention having the power turned up and longer unloading auger, 4wd than this one in the video. The other one we had was basicaly stock. Both together would knock out some ground

    Awsome video! The John Deere 8820 is my favorite combine (even though it came 10 years before me). My favorite models in my collection are my John Deere 8820 Titan II and John Deere 8400. It’s hard to believe that the 8820 was considered to be one of the big combines at one time, especially when we have John Deere X9s and Case IH AF11s now!

  • @farmermatt7880

    I believe most of the sped up cleaning shoes were converted back to the slower speed as they had a tendency to come apart

    • @jamesbarbour8400
      @jamesbarbour8400 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The European built MF 625 combines used to suffer from that problem too, according to a one time Dealership for said machines. Would have made sense to beef up the main structure of the shoe, rather than simply speeding up the mechanism. Am guessing that that why the JD cleaning shoes failed also - lack of additional built in strength ?

    Great video as usual.
    Green roof machines also had bigger inlets into the cleaning fan to help increase capacity.
    There was also an update for yellow roof machines, the factory supplied templates to cut out the cleaning fan inlets to the same size as the newer machines.
    Elongating the bolt holes on the fan mounting pedestals allowed the fan to be moved closer to the cut off plate which forced more air into the sieve area to also help increase cleaning capacity.

    Because they sped the shaker up 20% the Titan 2's would literally shake the sieves apart and were more prone to straw walker damage. This is why so many wound up with air foil chaffers instead of factory chaffers. We replaced the chaffer drive sprocket with earlier model sprockets to slow them back down.

He also had an almost new 4960 and a 4440 and a couple other utility sized tractors, one was a 6000 series open station JD and one was an Oliver, but don't recall the model of that one. I find in straw production farms cut a little less so that the windrow will fit in the baker pick up. 22ft is all a 348 baler will take in. Any more and it will leave the edges of the windrow. The is way you make good straw and have a full width in soybeans.

      Best movie ever. “Glory hallelujah look at the beauties we ought to put flags on them “. I remember watching it on TV when it was released on January 16, 1987.
