I test out 6 survival methods for catching fish from my private pond that would ordinarily be illegal including gill nets, traps, throw nets, bowfishing, gaffing, spin fishing, dough baits, live bait, and more to see which techniques are worth pursuing if you had to catch fish in survival.

hi. Nice video. I tried from your metods gill net(catch carp, trout, white fish, net was almost completly destroyed after one try), crab traps(minnovs,craifish white fish, most succesfull was umbrella type, i still use it) and cast nets(2,4 m, 3m, larger diametr (3,6 and 4,2m)was extremely bad to throw properly from bank. Cast net is good for small baitfish and bigger fish if they are not spooked( dark high water or in night). I lost few cast nets in deepwater( snags are deadly). I had sucsses with cast net when i prebaited places for fishing, prepared 3-6 spots and after hour two tried 2-3 cast on each place and rotate( after cast and some while often arrived pike or carp on place).
And yes, you are right, all metods are cinsidered as illegal, but chiness send anythigh if you pay few cash, and if nobody sees you nibody realy cares.

When you prepared for first cast, i remembered my begins😊, net didnt opened. Learning and little training is must. I admired art of asian fishermans with cast nets and learned from videos online , but bigger nets i still cant throw. With rod and reel i usualy catch more( if they baits). But i needed crayfish and minnows for release them in new teritory and it is not a option get them with rod or in hands.
Friends said that i am crazy to call poaching a hobby. I had some trouble( 3 year probation and crime record animal cruelty and poaching,for 3 photography of 2 marten caught in foothold in my garden and 1 death fox( get it with airgun and said that hunter borrowed me his gun for excange for my carp.
Its funny that marten and fox have no real value and nobody was able to pay damage for my killed animals( Martens visiting my chicken and rabbits

LOL. Ya last year had no fish in it, but most of the winter was on getting the grain bin down there. I'll restock next year, and we can assess how much ice skating occurs on the pond this winter :)

You need to put bait inside the spring on top of the gill net. put bread or dough type bait. The bait will sink to the bottom and the net will cover the bait and that will trap fish.

Really enjoyed watching the video. For fishing wise definitely use smaller lures and try using bait as well. Depending on the depth the cast net might be useless. After a few feet the cast net starts to close together on itself. Ppl who cast net for shrimp in deep water actually use tape to help keep the net open as it sinks however it sinks much slower.

For the cheapo hairnet type gill net I would use two twig-like spreaders, a weight on bottom and a light float on top. It could sit near bottom and would surely get something overnight.

This was a super educational video especially considering the sun hour mark.
You can certainly breed those trout with setup you had due to that sperm and egg mix. You and your brother (self reliance; subscribe) should do a moat around the house/anchorage so you can have a sustainable little sector in Canada.
I recommend a net for smelt. I find it a good size for a universal survival net.
I feel like the net throw has to work better if two people each take an end and lob it. Or if you're alone, granny-throw it. If you're twisting as you throw, the net is always going to keep twisting after you release, and land in the water in a heap.

I never saw a Rainbow trout that big matter fact its hard to buy em in Baltimore I haven't seen em. Sea trout Oyster trout Rainbow and Lake trout is what we used to heat that pond is a dream come true for me even as a grown man

The one net looked almost like a sabiki rig, cast and drag. IDK my friend, a wetsuit and speargun is next. 😅 Love what ya'll are doing 😊

@@TheWoodedBeardsman It's not legal but it's your pond. It's what the preservation officials use and it doesn't hurt the fish. It's a 10,000 dollar fine and jail time if it's not your pond.
Bow fishing is extremely difficult. The refraction of light has to be compensated for and it takes tons of practice. If you don't have good light get elevation and you might be able to see them
You need to pick up one side of throwing net in you had with the weights so at you throw it opens up
On the cast net grab the top of the net with your pointer finger out then bring up the weight line and grab it with your pointer finger then with the other hand bring the weight line strait across to your other hand then as you spin around it will open fully. I can throw a 3-12’ net this way

Idk if its legal where you are but for a deer spot find an old stump and pour a big bag of sugar and strawberry kool-Aid mix on it then put one of those big Brown trace mineral blocks on it. We set them up here and they last for ever we have spots that are 15 years old and the deer still use then we just put a New salt block in the hole every spring they litterally eat the dirt and make a big hole we have one spot thats 3’deer and 6’ across its crazzy we also add sugar at the same time . Would love to see you do it there and put a game cam on it

It's a bummer that all the fish die die to winter.
Maybe you can release the trout in the beaver ponds??
The aerators would prevent winter kill, but Kevin wants the pond to freeze so he can skate on it. We'll get more fish for the spring.

Rotnone will clog their gills and they will float up to the top and you can pick them up with your net

The cast nets would work if you throw it correct and let it sink to the bottom like it is supposed to

In that cold water, I bet the fish just waits for the pellets to reach them rather than rise. But what do I know.
Yeah, especially as the water gets too cold, or too hot, they will wait for it to sink a little.

Trout eat bugs , snails , and shrimp etc off bottom
Bow fishing is better for salt water fish, in tide pools and mangrove systems at high tide.

It was always a put and take deal regardless. If we could keep the aerator going, I'd overwinter, but skating was missed last year. I'm sure 1 or 2 fish will remain, so we'll see if they make it.

Mixed egg and sperm, I have seen I a lot in fish from hatchery's
Interresting to see the eggs amogst the sperm sack, I guess thats just the nature of how they breed. Someone pupms out eggs, you rush out pump out some sperm, some of those eggs get dragged into the male via vacume, I dont think its a hermaphrodite thing, I could be wrong, dont know enough about fish sex, not sure I know enough about human sex. x
