Please make the movie. Give Sarah & Chuck the magical ending they deserve after all they have been through. Not to mention the fans who would surely appreciate some semblance of closure.
The ending IS magical. It's ambiguous, but it's a happy ending the way I see it. Plus Chuck's character development is brilliantly portrayed in this final scene.
I've never seen chemistry this strong between two completely different characters personalities. I know opposites attract, but this is way beyond that.
They could do so many things and this would be the perfect ending; like the kiss could work and actually make morgan the reason everything work out making him the hero he always wanted to be. Ellie could make her own mini intersect for sarah with all the chuck and sarah memories showing how much smarter ellie has gotten. Sarah falls in love with chuck all over again without all the spy things and then eventually remembers everything. Or they make a movie where they finally get sarah's memories back in the final mission and after that a timeskip happens and it shows everyone lives like 5 years later. As long as sarah and chuck end up together this is the perfect ending for the show. P.s. if the kiss does work its a throwback to season 4 when sarah kissed chuck and he woke up
The last scene was very much needed to show Chuck's, our main character's, character development. He is not just that whiny BuyMore guy from the first two seasons. He isn't begging Sarah to remember him. Instead he shows great maturity in telling Sarah to trust her, which she clearly does. That's a win for Chuck.
Sarah's character growth was even better than Chuck over the last 5 years. It took the both of them a long long time (till the Baby episode) for Sarah to break the walls she set up around her. Wiping out that development in an instant is really poor. The ending could have been bittersweet in many different ways. But having watched this show multiple times, they deserved a better ending, since this show is more about filling you with joy with Chuck and Sarah overcoming any struggle that face and seeing them REJOICE at the end of it. Fans deserved to see them happy at the end of it, not a cliffhanger. That happy feeling makes this show special. Even the ending of the eighth episode (Baby) was bittersweet, but still brings a lot more closure.
Her character development was vast compared to his. One of the defining traits of him is that he stays the same "good guy" with the Intersect (gaining powers doesn't corrupt trope), in the face of danger, and so on. So one of the things that makes Chuck Chuck is that he doesn't change much. She grew A LOT and lost it all so his character could get this nod, so the viewers could get a Nicholas Sparks bittersweet ending, and the male half of the viewership could feel good about the nerd being able to get the girl no matter what, even if her mind is wiped. She basically got fridged for Chuck and the % of the viewership who like faux-deep endings that serve the dudes.

Thanks for posting this! It was great to re-live all the wonderful moments of this couple near the end of the series. The writers did a nice job of progressing their relationship from beginning of series onwards to the end.
The perfect ending would have been if Sarah had told Chuck she was pregnant. If you saw the movie 'The Vow' with Rachel McAdams (& based on a true story) Rachel never regains her memory after the car accident. There will always be doubt after the season 5 finale. It was a pointless way to end the series given we had followed their relationship from start to finish :(
Just finished watching the series again. Their relationship lost credibility for me in season 3. Really hard watching s3e1 to s3e13. Sarah was a real bitch and was close to bonking Cole, was all over & bonked Shaw then says she loved Chuck since day 1(all within a few episodes). Seriously!?!?! Then Chuck reeled in Hannah and dumped her after bonking her the night before! Not sure why the writers went this way? And there is no guarantee Sarah will get he memory back!!!! A happy ending would have been if Sarah told Chuck she was pregnant on the beach to end the series. Loved all the cameo performances during the series too!

i think the kiss worked. Morgan was right. i like how in the last two episodes Sarah mood changed in the last scene she truly seemed like the Sarah we know
It’s clear she wanted to remember but it could take another 5 years to get back to where she was. What I don’t get is that when Morgan lost his memory, he still remembered all the relationships he had with people.
First, let me point out that “Chuck” ends with Chuck and Sarah kissing each other. They love each other from the first episode, as it is clear that he likes her from the start and Sarah “fell for him long before he started defusing bombs” (Sarah in S3E13), which happens in the first episode (end of S1E1 - Irene Demova porn virus). Sarah remembers this small detail in the last episode (S5E13). Even though her memory is heavily fragmented this memory is somehow still existent. Another thing she remembers is the “Chuck + Sarah carving” in her dream house, which she made (S5E8). Many complain about the drawing and why Chuck does not show it to her. Well if the drawing still exists, it is important she does not remember the place exactly but clearly the recognizes the carving knowing that it is of her making (S5E12). In the end, she goes to the beach knowing that “this place is important” (S5E13), which not only reveals that she has some fragmented memory or notion that something significant happened here. Furthermore, it reveals that it was important for her from the start, as she never tells this to anyone this is a new revelation and Chuck here gets to find out. She feels emotionally connected to the place and is curious to why it is important to her and Chuck´s story. When they sit together at the beach she asks Chuck to tell her their story (S5E13) when she easily could have simply left for good or just not asked the question. She wants to know. She is in mourning knowing that she has lost something and can see that Chuck is hurting emotionally. Then, Chuck tells her of “some stupid thing that Morgan” said (S2E3), something he dreamt of doing when invisioning their future. She does not yet remember this detail, but wants to know about it anyway, proving here that she is girl Chuck fell in love with, the Sarah who listens to him and indeed wants to her about what he has to say to her “at the end of a bad day” (S2E3). This sad scene, in the “Skinny Love song scene” in episode three of series two already foreshadows this scene in the end. It indeed happens, and Sarah is still his Sarah, despite her memory loss. As Morgan´s idea might seem crazy to her she could easily dismiss it, but decisively does not. It works completely in episode nine of season four. Morgan also regains his memory after his memories were suppressed by the intersect. It is sad that Sarah has lost her memories, and sad that it remains slightly unsure if she regains them, but she falls in love with Chuck again and the two reunite. The main point is, however is that she want to know. She wants to know their story, and wants to feel them this time. She asks Chuck to kiss her, knowing that their first kiss was her initiative. She does not lean in and kisses him, like someone would do perhaps for their first kiss, she specifically asks him to do it, with the intention of trying out Morgan´s “magical kiss theory”, hoping that it works. If it does or not, while the camera moves away, you can see her responding to his first kiss and continue the kiss for a longer time, clearly feeling the emotion and enjoying his kiss and kissing him. They are in love already. The ending remains bittersweet as the audience is unsure if she regains all her memories or not, but it is likely, and even if not so, the two will stay together and love each other. Indeed the bonuses on the DVD include comments from the creators, Zachary Levi and Yvonne Strahovski on the future of Chuck and Sarah and several other characters. To me personally, Yvonne´s view is most important to me, because I feel like she has made that character what she is and I really wanted to know her take on it. None of the others, contradict her, and it fits, so its clear what the intention of the ending is. Chris Fedak: “The team goes on as adventures.” Josh Schwartz: “I like the audience and the fans to project and predict where the characters are.” Zachary Levi: “I believe that at the end of the episode of the episode that when Chuck and Sarah kiss, they are well on their way back to their life together again.” Yvonnes Strahovski: “There is the version where she has kids with Chuck and quits the spy life or […] they just keep running themselves into dangerous situations.”
@@strstr2611 I too thought that was very well explained, and it's the view I've shared for a long time. (This is one of my two all-time favorite shows, along with Lost - which coincidentally also has a fan-divisive ending that I grew to love.) While I understand that the end is bittersweet, to me it was more of a happy ending, even if not the sort where everything is perfect. Because like you, I too feel that it's more or less irrelevant whether the kiss magically returns her memories or not. If it does, great. But even if not, she's clearly seeing the man he is (such as hearing him say that he will be there for her always, and isn't asking anything back from her) and is starting to fall for him all over again. (Another factor is that she literally saw herself on tape admitting that she loved Chuck. So she knew for a fact that what Chuck had told her about them was true.) And as you mentioned, some memories had already popped back into her head - such as the bomb-diffusing virus from the pilot episode and the correct way to organize the cups at the Wienerlicious, her first cover job. So even if the kiss didn't restore everything right away, it seems likely that different triggers would continue to bring back memories. Whether the kiss brought everything back right away, the memories came back gradually over time, or their relationship had to start over from the beginning, to me the end result is the same: I have zero doubt that they would end up happily together again.
James Hatha Excellent explanation, this perspective should be the right conclusion how its love lead. But can't wait to see at the movie how Chuck and Sarah recollected their lovely memories since more than 5 years had actually already passed after S5E13, as one of big fans of Chuck.
For me the episodes leading up to the finale could have worked better if they were earlier in the last season. Hence if the kiss was like in the last scene of episode 11 then the last two episodes could have been so much greater. They should have done it the easy way. Sarah flashes, comes back, they fall in love, pregnancy, they become "normal"...and then the cliffhanger is when Beckman calls and says we need you. Or some thing like that. So many ways it could have gone. But IF they get to make a movie hopefully it won't take 10-15 years.
The only additional thing I would've liked to see included was more of Chuck's attempt to make Sarah remember, when she was tied up in their dream house. The last line from that part included in the video was: "But the fact remains, you fell for me, Sarah." Here is some of what followed, and what I had always found to be one of the most emotional parts (and it probably only would've added 30 seconds to a minute): Chuck: "Our first kiss. Not our first cover kiss, but our first real kiss was when we were trying to defuse a bomb and we thought we were gonna die, and I closed my eyes and I felt you grab me... and kiss me. *You*... kissed me. "And then there was a lot of pretending that it didn't happen and awkward back-and-forth and dating other people but one day... one day when I was sure that you could never love a nerd like me... you came over and I asked you if you loved me. And you, Sarah Walker... said yes. And when I asked you to marry me you didn't *have* to say yes, because we both knew. We both knew that we'd spend the rest of our lives together. "So please remember this house, and the red door, and the white-picket fence, and the family that we were going to raise. And remember me. Because if you remember me... then you'll remember that a nerdy guy like me who works at a Buy More... could make you happy." (His delivery of those lines, desperately pleading with Sarah to remember, always chokes me up.)
This would have been great if there was an actual happy ending....the so called "love letter to the fans" wound up being a 3 finger salute. Chuck and Sarah deserved so much more; and so did the fans.
Nah I think it's pretty clear that whether the kiss worked or not, Sarah would eventually come back. The signs are all over the episode. The only question is if it all happened at once with the kiss or it took more time.
Agreed; but that's the ambiguity of it all. I never thought that they wouldn't find their way back to each other, but considering that this was the end, was it really fair that was no real resolution? As someone who watched from day one, I didn't feel that it was fair to leave it up to the imagination of the viewer, as optimistic as the end was. I didn't need picket fences or kids running around, but a well placed word or even an extension of the beach scene would have been nice. It tarnished the whole show for me. It isn't my job to complete the story for the writer. I would not been happy with a magic kiss, but at least I would know and didn't have to imagine it.
Yeah I totally understand where you're coming from. It took a while for me to accept this ending as well. If you want more resolution, Chris Fedak (co-creator and writer on Chuck) elaborated on Charah's foreseeable future. He said that they would live and love peacefully as husband and wife and go on to open that computer security firm. He also specifically said that Sarah would def regain all her memories, but he wouldn't say how. He said that it's up the the audience to decide whether it was a gradual process or that the magical kiss worked. I completely understand how frustrating it is to not just have a real ending, but maybe if/when the movie comes out it will close some doors. Until then, just keep reminding yourself that it's only a television show. Or go find some fanfiction. Worked for me haha.

I had this same conversation, almost verbatim, with my family as we finished watching Chuck last week...for the second time. Chuck and Sarah are basically a modern day Romeo and Juliet, just not as mortally tragic and there is a glimpse of hope in the end.
Derek Cheatham people knock the ending but I genuinely appreciate it because it removes any notion of “ far fetched” from their relationship. By that I mean that it makes their love realistic and not the result of Chuck opening a damn email and ending up with the intersect found it’s way into Chuck’s head. I love the show but man I realized recently how mad I would have been if it had ended with the typical “perfect happily ever after” Rom com ending. What they did is way more meaningful to the relationship because it proves that circumstances only placed them in each other’s lives, it did not cause them to fall in love. That happened because of the affect they had on each other and that truth doesn’t change because Sarah’s memories are suppressed, in fact it doesn’t matter because she is feeling them and that cannot be suppressed. What’s the proof? Sarah ASKS FOR THE STORY AND ASKS FOR THE KISS! She just needed to get revenge on Quinn before she could move past what happened to her and fully embrace Chuck again. I feel so many people angry about the finale are ignoring the point of it. It’s deeply metaphorical, metaphysical and philosophical...that’s not a bad thing!

Guys don't be sad about this end! Chuck and Sarah is like Kim and Krickitt Carpenter, a couple who faced a new beginning. In 1993, Krickitt lost her memories of the last 18 months due to a car accident including meeting her husband. The two began all over again, fell in love once more, and have remained together since. So perhaps it is as the author says, Chuck and Sarah can fall in love once more without the missions. It is not an ending but a beginning. CHARAH FOREVER!
Just binged watched chuck , twice. Ha. My wife is making fun of me. Being a hallmark kinda of guy, I’m cool with the ending. He was already winning her back. Want the movie.
They need to come out with a blockbuster.. a story..like Chuck and Sarah have been apart for many years now.. and all of a sudden the world is in jeopardy and Chuck working in some high tech computer company.. learns of a plot to take over and use the internet.. He goes to the only last person he still knows in the CIA ... Casey... and then Sarah is pulled in..to save the world.. it would be fantastic.. James bond.. but with more comedy.. Chuck would get the intersect back..and it would be ON... a GREAT movie this could be.
Do another show with just Chuck, Sarah, and Bryce. I just watched the first three seasons and it’s ok but come on Chuck Cary a gun and use it and be a man. You mean to tell me a good looking woman like Sarah picks a nerd like Chuck over Bryce get real. Put it on a different network
Andy Frederick yes because Chuck is authentic, genuine and selfless to the point of sacrificing his own happiness for everyone else. Bryce has good intentions but his over inflated ego gets in the way, and puts on a show. If you really paid attention to season 3 you’d know Chuck becomes fully capable of using a gun to kill for the sake of protecting himself the people he loves but will only use them if he absolutely has to use them e. g. Killing Shaw. Most women want a man who is authenticity himself wether they are a Bryce type or a Chuck type.

This show has one of the most heart breaking endings! I know they deliberately left it open ended, but it broke my heart that they ended this way.

It was a total kick in the nuts to all the fans who fought so hard to keep it going as long as it did, and THAT'S how they repaid us!

Sad that Zach is the only one who mentions it anymore, and Yvonne has a family and a booming career so every year passes with less and less chance.
i think the kiss worked. Morgan was right. i like how in the last two episodes Sarah mood changed in the last scene she truly seemed like the Sarah we know
It’s clear she wanted to remember but it could take another 5 years to get back to where she was. What I don’t get is that when Morgan lost his memory, he still remembered all the relationships he had with people.
First, let me point out that “Chuck” ends with Chuck and Sarah kissing each other. They love each other from the first episode, as it is clear that he likes her from the start and Sarah “fell for him long before he started defusing bombs” (Sarah in S3E13), which happens in the first episode (end of S1E1 - Irene Demova porn virus). Sarah remembers this small detail in the last episode (S5E13). Even though her memory is heavily fragmented this memory is somehow still existent. Another thing she remembers is the “Chuck + Sarah carving” in her dream house, which she made (S5E8). Many complain about the drawing and why Chuck does not show it to her. Well if the drawing still exists, it is important she does not remember the place exactly but clearly the recognizes the carving knowing that it is of her making (S5E12).
In the end, she goes to the beach knowing that “this place is important” (S5E13), which not only reveals that she has some fragmented memory or notion that something significant happened here. Furthermore, it reveals that it was important for her from the start, as she never tells this to anyone this is a new revelation and Chuck here gets to find out. She feels emotionally connected to the place and is curious to why it is important to her and Chuck´s story. When they sit together at the beach she asks Chuck to tell her their story (S5E13) when she easily could have simply left for good or just not asked the question. She wants to know. She is in mourning knowing that she has lost something and can see that Chuck is hurting emotionally. Then, Chuck tells her of “some stupid thing that Morgan” said (S2E3), something he dreamt of doing when invisioning their future. She does not yet remember this detail, but wants to know about it anyway, proving here that she is girl Chuck fell in love with, the Sarah who listens to him and indeed wants to her about what he has to say to her “at the end of a bad day” (S2E3). This sad scene, in the “Skinny Love song scene” in episode three of series two already foreshadows this scene in the end. It indeed happens, and Sarah is still his Sarah, despite her memory loss. As Morgan´s idea might seem crazy to her she could easily dismiss it, but decisively does not. She does not remember the “magical kiss” she gave Chuck when saving him in Thailand (S4E9), which is another scene that foreshadows this magical kiss. It works completely in episode nine of season four. Morgan also regains his memory after his memories were suppressed by the intersect.
The song: the song in the background “Rivers & Roads” celebrates unification rather than mourning the depature. It is sad that Sarah has lost her memories, and sad that it remains slightly unsure if she regains them, but she falls in love with Chuck again and the two reunite.
The main point is, however is that she want to know. She wants to know their story, and wants to feel them this time. She asks Chuck to kiss her, knowing that their first kiss was her initiative. She does not lean in and kisses him, like someone would do perhaps for their first kiss, she specifically asks him to do it, with the intention of trying out Morgan´s “magical kiss theory”, hoping that it works. If it does or not, while the camera moves away, you can see her responding to his first kiss and continue the kiss for a longer time, clearly feeling the emotion and enjoying his kiss and kissing him. They are in love already.
The ending remains bittersweet as the audience is unsure if she regains all her memories or not, but it is likely, and even if not so, the two will stay together and love each other.
Indeed the bonuses on the DVD include comments from the creators, Zachary Levi and Yvonne Strahovski on the future of Chuck and Sarah and several other characters. To me personally, Yvonne´s view is most important to me, because I feel like she has made that character what she is and I really wanted to know her take on it. None of the others, contradict her, and it fits, so its clear what the intention of the ending is.

@@strstr2611 I too thought that was very well explained, and it's the view I've shared for a long time. (This is one of my two all-time favorite shows, along with Lost - which coincidentally also has a fan-divisive ending that I grew to love.) While I understand that the end is bittersweet, to me it was more of a happy ending, even if not the sort where everything is perfect. Because like you, I too feel that it's more or less irrelevant whether the kiss magically returns her memories or not. If it does, great. But even if not, she's clearly seeing the man he is (such as hearing him say that he will be there for her always, and isn't asking anything back from her) and is starting to fall for him all over again. (Another factor is that she literally saw herself on tape admitting that she loved Chuck. So she knew for a fact that what Chuck had told her about them was true.) And as you mentioned, some memories had already popped back into her head - such as the bomb-diffusing virus from the pilot episode and the correct way to organize the cups at the Wienerlicious, her first cover job. So even if the kiss didn't restore everything right away, it seems likely that different triggers would continue to bring back memories.
Whether the kiss brought everything back right away, the memories came back gradually over time, or their relationship had to start over from the beginning, to me the end result is the same: I have zero doubt that they would end up happily together again.
James Hatha Excellent explanation, this perspective should be the right conclusion how its love lead. But can't wait to see at the movie how Chuck and Sarah recollected their lovely memories since more than 5 years had actually already passed after S5E13, as one of big fans of Chuck.
For me the episodes leading up to the finale could have worked better if they were earlier in the last season. Hence if the kiss was like in the last scene of episode 11 then the last two episodes could have been so much greater. They should have done it the easy way. Sarah flashes, comes back, they fall in love, pregnancy, they become "normal"...and then the cliffhanger is when Beckman calls and says we need you. Or some thing like that. So many ways it could have gone. But IF they get to make a movie hopefully it won't take 10-15 years.

The only additional thing I would've liked to see included was more of Chuck's attempt to make Sarah remember, when she was tied up in their dream house. The last line from that part included in the video was: "But the fact remains, you fell for me, Sarah." Here is some of what followed, and what I had always found to be one of the most emotional parts (and it probably only would've added 30 seconds to a minute):
Chuck: "Our first kiss. Not our first cover kiss, but our first real kiss was when we were trying to defuse a bomb and we thought we were gonna die, and I closed my eyes and I felt you grab me... and kiss me.
*You*... kissed me.
"And then there was a lot of pretending that it didn't happen and awkward back-and-forth and dating other people but one day... one day when I was sure that you could never love a nerd like me... you came over and I asked you if you loved me. And you, Sarah Walker... said yes. And when I asked you to marry me you didn't *have* to say yes, because we both knew. We both knew that we'd spend the rest of our lives together.
"So please remember this house, and the red door, and the white-picket fence, and the family that we were going to raise.
And remember me. Because if you remember me... then you'll remember that a nerdy guy like me who works at a Buy More... could make you happy."
(His delivery of those lines, desperately pleading with Sarah to remember, always chokes me up.)
This would have been great if there was an actual happy ending....the so called "love letter to the fans" wound up being a 3 finger salute. Chuck and Sarah deserved so much more; and so did the fans.

Nah I think it's pretty clear that whether the kiss worked or not, Sarah would eventually come back. The signs are all over the episode. The only question is if it all happened at once with the kiss or it took more time.
Agreed; but that's the ambiguity of it all. I never thought that they wouldn't find their way back to each other, but considering that this was the end, was it really fair that was no real resolution? As someone who watched from day one, I didn't feel that it was fair to leave it up to the imagination of the viewer, as optimistic as the end was. I didn't need picket fences or kids running around, but a well placed word or even an extension of the beach scene would have been nice. It tarnished the whole show for me. It isn't my job to complete the story for the writer. I would not been happy with a magic kiss, but at least I would know and didn't have to imagine it.
Yeah I totally understand where you're coming from. It took a while for me to accept this ending as well. If you want more resolution, Chris Fedak (co-creator and writer on Chuck) elaborated on Charah's foreseeable future. He said that they would live and love peacefully as husband and wife and go on to open that computer security firm. He also specifically said that Sarah would def regain all her memories, but he wouldn't say how. He said that it's up the the audience to decide whether it was a gradual process or that the magical kiss worked. I completely understand how frustrating it is to not just have a real ending, but maybe if/when the movie comes out it will close some doors. Until then, just keep reminding yourself that it's only a television show. Or go find some fanfiction. Worked for me haha.

I had this same conversation, almost verbatim, with my family as we finished watching Chuck last week...for the second time. Chuck and Sarah are basically a modern day Romeo and Juliet, just not as mortally tragic and there is a glimpse of hope in the end.
Derek Cheatham people knock the ending but I genuinely appreciate it because it removes any notion of “ far fetched” from their relationship. By that I mean that it makes their love realistic and not the result of Chuck opening a damn email and ending up with the intersect found it’s way into Chuck’s head. I love the show but man I realized recently how mad I would have been if it had ended with the typical “perfect happily ever after” Rom com ending. What they did is way more meaningful to the relationship because it proves that circumstances only placed them in each other’s lives, it did not cause them to fall in love. That happened because of the affect they had on each other and that truth doesn’t change because Sarah’s memories are suppressed, in fact it doesn’t matter because she is feeling them and that cannot be suppressed. What’s the proof? Sarah ASKS FOR THE STORY AND ASKS FOR THE KISS! She just needed to get revenge on Quinn before she could move past what happened to her and fully embrace Chuck again. I feel so many people angry about the finale are ignoring the point of it. It’s deeply metaphorical, metaphysical and philosophical...that’s not a bad thing!

Guys don't be sad about this end! Chuck and Sarah is like Kim and Krickitt Carpenter, a couple who faced a new beginning. In 1993, Krickitt lost her memories of the last 18 months due to a car accident including meeting her husband. The two began all over again, fell in love once more, and have remained together since. So perhaps it is as the author says, Chuck and Sarah can fall in love once more without the missions. It is not an ending but a beginning.

They need to come out with a blockbuster.. a story..like Chuck and Sarah have been apart for many years now.. and all of a sudden the world is in jeopardy and Chuck working in some high tech computer company.. learns of a plot to take over and use the internet.. He goes to the only last person he still knows in the CIA ... Casey... and then Sarah is pulled in..to save the world.. it would be fantastic.. James bond.. but with more comedy.. Chuck would get the intersect back..and it would be ON... a GREAT movie this could be.

Andy Frederick yes because Chuck is authentic, genuine and selfless to the point of sacrificing his own happiness for everyone else. Bryce has good intentions but his over inflated ego gets in the way, and puts on a show. If you really paid attention to season 3 you’d know Chuck becomes fully capable of using a gun to kill for the sake of protecting himself the people he loves but will only use them if he absolutely has to use them e. g. Killing Shaw.
Most women want a man who is authenticity himself wether they are a Bryce type or a Chuck type.
