Sinead is absolutely stunning in this video. Considering what emotions she must have went thru at the end its sad to hear her sing "Don't give up 'Cause you have friends Don't give up You're not the only one Don't give up No reason to be ashamed Don't give up You still have us Don't give up now We're proud of who you are Don't give up You know it's never been easy Don't give up 'Cause I believe there's a place There's a place where we belong" Life can be very tough no matter who you are and she went thru a lot of tough times, especially with her son dying. Hope she is with him now. RIP
I cannot believe I was there. I felt satisfied just by seeing and listening to Peter for the first time in my life. He was not supposed to come to Chile for that concert, but Sting (and SO ;) ) were convincing and compelling, respectively. I really did not notice the bugs very much, because the whole show was quite a mess and Gabriel and O'Connor were mostly enjoying each other rather than rehearsing. Sting touched the right thing at the end. You probably know that the bass in 6/8 is central in the song. Not the drums, a little bit less the keyboards. I am impressed that Gabriel was able to get into the song in such a hostile company. He remembers the episode with his usual resilence. I have been lucky enough to attend 3 more of his shows and I can say this is his more adorable worst performance. But we all loved it. He gave this Chilean AI concert the meaning that everyone was expecting. And is beautiful that his relationship with SO started here, giving born to the album US, an intimate group of tales about failing, love, narcissism, and letting go (I love to be loved). I could never imagine the personal risk that she took in her counterculture bravery in the face of expropriation from her own country and culture to advocate for a greater sense of justice and equity regardless of personal identity
So superstars really do have tough nights too. It’s so utterly shocking the number of clams in this performance. And sting coming in with the octave base completely in the wrong key at the end was hilarious. They’re all such a pros they recovered clam after clam after clam.
She is so beautiful, she could've been miss Ireland. Instead she sang her heart away. She sacrificed her career to speak out about child abuse. If I had a medal of Honor I'd give it to Sinead o'conner.
¿Alguien pifia? ¿Alguien se queja? No.Todos escuchan respetuosamente e incluso aplauden.
One of the worst things about the modern age is that a disastrous performance of a great song like this can live forever. I'm sure every participant is embarrassed and would want it never to see the light of day ever again, just like that unfortunate picture you put on MySpace in '95 that is still all over the place. :-)
Keyboards and drummer were just in their own world throughout this. I don't know if Peter pissed them off back stage or what, but they couldn't be any more obtuse and incompetent.

@@theunwantedcritic I can see why you are the unwanted. You have not a clue what you are talking about. There were only a few songs of Gabriel's that had that African sound.
The best of the best make mistakes! It shows they are human and of course, not screwing around. Two years ago I went to a Puscifer show in Tampa Bay. For those that know, the lead singer is the singer of Tool and A Perfect Circle; one of the best and most flawless live singers and preformers around. They started the last song, Tumbleweed, in which Carina Round starts with two verses then he jumps in. Her banjo pick up failed but they continued on, but when Keenan jumped in he completely sung the wrong lyrics than what Carina was singing. He laughed, stopped the song, rewound the video and started over; just so the banjo pick up would fry again. In the end it was a beautiful rendition and again, it shows even the best make mistakes. It keeps it real and intimate with the fans at the show.
Someone who was there says they were playing "Biko" at the start - wrong bloody song - and eventually got it together to play the right song…hhmmm…not impressive…Poor Peter.

For those of you wondering why Sinead O'Connor is reading the music while singing her part in this duet ; Sinead had just recently ( at that time ) been recruited by Peter Gabriel for his Secret World Tour. Sinead replaced Joy Askew who had stared as duet singer and keyboardist for the earliest part of the Tour. This video is probably from a performance for Amnesty International ( in Chile, iirc.), while the Secret World Tour had been playing in North America. The Tour would end at Woodstock '94 , after Paula Cole took over when Sinead O'Connor left suddenly. (:
Surprised that so many did not comment on her reading the lyrics from papers she was holding. I suspected she was added to the show suddenly. Original female that recorded this song with Peter was Kate Bush. Paula Cole also did an amazing job on the Secret World tour as she too got thrust into the limelight with very little rehearsal time.
@@MyShareVideos Sting's band. More than a concert it almost was a happening, a big party with great friends, and we thoroughly enjoyed it, even if it's on TV as in my case. yeah yeah wOooOoo 🤩🥳🎵🎶
I wanted to see PG since the 80's but never got to. He recently toured with Sting, and I refused to go-if Sting, whom I love, played his set with his band, and PG played his set with his band, I would have gone. I don't want to hear them singing each other's songs.
I’m a massive Kate Bush fan - huge. Saw her live etc. But if Sinead had actually sung on the original instead of Kate I think we would say no one could top Sinead. Both are the ultimate singers. This was a live version but Sinead would have killed it on a recording
It was not the best for her voice type, then. Fast forward a few decades, I think she would’ve had more to bring to it, and she obviously wasn’t rehearsed. I wonder what was happening in her life at the time…she seems so meek and nervous. Not like that young upstart I saw play Chicago Metro when the Lion and the Cobra was released…
I love that! A very poignant quote for this song. ^-^ Not one of us will ever truly be free until we all take responsibility for the freedom of others.
@Gengonglike Arbukle A hero uses their freedom to fight to help others. Bob Dylan is saying heroes see this fight as closer to a moral responsibility rather than a heroic act to be held up on a pedestal. Heroes are just normal people who feel called to use their freedom to selflessly help others. Without normal people acting heroically towards the betterment of mankind we wouldn't have the freedoms we have today. That's my interpretation anyhow.
Seeing Sting introducing Peter Gabriel takes me back quite a long time. I believe this video was taken from an Amnesty International concert in South America ( Chile, iirc ). Good times, man. good times. (:
Then you should see and hear the Kate Bush & Peter Gabriel version. For some reason, I believe that Peter Gabriel was dependent on the current mood of Sinead O’Connor here if he puts such long breaks in that beautiful song. They are both professionals, the performance could have been far, far better.

Sinead will always be the ethical, virtuous, and righteous voice of reason to counter mainstream thought. Rest in power!! I could never imagine the personal risk that she took in her counterculture bravery in the face of expropriation from her own country and culture to advocate for a greater sense of justice and equity regardless of personal identity
70, kaum zu glauben! Peter Gabriel & Sinead O'Connor beides Idole der (meiner) 90er.
So superstars really do have tough nights too. It’s so utterly shocking the number of clams in this performance. And sting coming in with the octave base completely in the wrong key at the end was hilarious. They’re all such a pros they recovered clam after clam after clam.
This could have been so much better with a bit of rehearsal. This song, when performed right, brings tears to the eyes.
A shocking rendition of a splendid song. Musically all over the place, beat out of time.
She is so beautiful, she could've been miss Ireland. Instead she sang her heart away. She sacrificed her career to speak out about child abuse. If I had a medal of Honor I'd give it to Sinead o'conner.
old boehne so would I 💚✨

Feliz Navidad 2020 a todos con Jesús. 🙋🏻♀️💖🇨🇱🎄
¿Alguien pifia? ¿Alguien se queja? No.Todos escuchan respetuosamente e incluso aplauden.
You are missed Sinead😢 forever in our hearts and memories!❤
One of the worst things about the modern age is that a disastrous performance of a great song like this can live forever. I'm sure every participant is embarrassed and would want it never to see the light of day ever again, just like that unfortunate picture you put on MySpace in '95 that is still all over the place. :-)
Love the way Peter Gabriel brings his arm up, then down, at the end to finish the song off and er, nothing happens, brilliant................
Keyboards and drummer were just in their own world throughout this. I don't know if Peter pissed them off back stage or what, but they couldn't be any more obtuse and incompetent.
Awww poor Peter lol ❤
Absolutely catastrophic 🙉🎉☝️🙄🚧
i love it when peter looks at sinead and say thank fuck you've helped me save this
Hermosa y joven Sinead!!!!
Desconcertó a Gabriel ...

It's Really RUDE.

goes to show you how incredibly complex Gabriel's music is. He is a genius
Great musicians, great lyricist, creative, but not a genius. His singing was always unsteady.
Yeah he’s a genius for basically playing African music and taking all the credit for it. O Connor was so beautiful back then.
Poor old Peter couldn't find the beat to come in on the first verse ..but he fixed it up
I actually cant stop watching this version i think its raw and real two thumbs up
This kind of raw needs to be sent back to the kitchen !
They sound like they are playing a different song than what they are singing, The look he was giving them says it all!!!!
Carol Powell it got a bit better as it went on but yeah he was pissed
Someone who was there says they were playing "Biko" at the start - wrong bloody song - and eventually got it together to play the right song…hhmmm…not impressive…Poor Peter.

this song arrived just in time for many people
For those of you wondering why Sinead O'Connor is reading the music while singing her part in this duet ; Sinead had just recently ( at that time ) been recruited by Peter Gabriel for his Secret World Tour.
(:
Sadly sinead left us suddenly for good... 2023 /// lovely eyes ... great voice / losing her son / I'm afraid she did give up ...
I love the three of them 😍😍 Peter Gabriel has changed a lot since 1990 😫😫😫
I'm overwhelmed by her beauty
I'm overwhelmed by the overall lack of preparedness by everyone except Gabriel.
Ouch! Open mic night with Beetlejuice and the pirate, oh and Sting. This is one of my favorite Peter Gabriel songs. Shouldn't have clicked!
Ironic - isn't Amnesty International against torture? Poor Peter... but he didn't give up. Good for him!
A good Singer is a good singer, even against the wrong playing band. Nothing match better than this example. Never give up !

- Lyrics - Peter Gabriel - Don't Give Up - - - - - In this proud land we grew up strong - We were wanted all along - I was taught to fight, taught to win - I never thought I could fail - No fight left or so it seems - I am a man whose dreams have all deserted - I've changed my name, I've changed my face - But no one wants you when you lose - Don't give up - 'Cause you have friends - Don't give up - You're not beaten yet - Don't give up - I know you can make it good - Though I saw it all around - Never thought I could be affected - Thought that we'd be the last to go - It is so strange the way things turn - Drove the night toward my home - The place that I was born, on the lakeside - As daylight broke, I saw the earth - The trees had burned down to the ground - Don't give up - You still have us - Don't give up - We don't need much of anything - Don't give up - 'Cause somewhere there's a place - Where we belong - Rest your head - You worry too much - It's going to be alright - When times get rough - You can fall back on us - Don't give up - Please don't give up - 'Got to walk out of here - I can't take anymore - Going to stand on that bridge - Keep my eyes down below - Whatever may come - And whatever may go - That river's flowing - That river's flowing - Moved on to another town - Tried hard to settle down - For every job, so many men - So many men no-one needs - Don't give up - 'Cause you have friends - Don't give up - You're not the only one - Don't give up - No reason to be ashamed - Don't give up - You still have us - Don't give up now - We're proud of who you are - Don't give up - You know it's never been easy - Don't give up - 'Cause I believe there's a place - There's a place where we belong - - - - - - Source: LyricFind - Songwriters: Peter Gabriel - Don’t Give Up lyrics © Sony/ATV Music Publishing LLC, Universal Music Publishing Group, BMG Rights Management
WOW ! Don't hold back "lil" Sister ! His lyrics are always impeccable.
I wanted to see PG since the 80's but never got to. He recently toured with Sting, and I refused to go-if Sting, whom I love, played his set with his band, and PG played his set with his band, I would have gone. I don't want to hear them singing each other's songs.
As beautiful as Sinead O'Connors voice is, no one can top Kate Bush for that song.
This is what I thougt
"A hero is someone who understands the responsibility that comes with his freedom." Bob Dylan
I love that! A very poignant quote for this song. ^-^
Not one of us will ever truly be free until we all take responsibility for the freedom of others.
MadisOn. Kate

Yup!!!
Pure beauty of existence the presence and warmth of Sinead. Love Sinead O'conner.
Seeing Sting introducing Peter Gabriel takes me back quite a long time. I believe this video was taken from an Amnesty International concert in South America ( Chile, iirc ). Good times, man. good times.

Rip beautiful Angel... Thanku for your music and just being u❤❤❤
This is what it sounds like when a number of different songs are all played at the same time. I think one of them was”Don’t Give Up”...
It's in there some where
Even with some errors and technical problems, this version is still one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard
Then you should see and hear the Kate Bush & Peter Gabriel version. For some reason, I believe that Peter Gabriel was dependent on the current mood of Sinead O’Connor here if he puts such long breaks in that beautiful song. They are both professionals, the performance could have been far, far better.
@@in-a-bad-mood Yes not enough soul in this version. Although Gabriel is really trying while O'Connor must use notes. The Peter Gabriel & Kate Bush version on the other hand is outstanding, soulful!
I love it as it is
A truly beautiful song. Kate Bush is amazing.
Two great Irish women.
Secret World live version with Paula Cole is the Gold standard for this song.
i agree...
Great performance by Peter Gabriel & Sinéad O'Connor. The intro by the bass player, Sting....🎸 Someone forgot to mention him?......................Sinéan O'Connor 🧝"Nothing Compares 2 U" R.I.P. 🙏
