San Diego Wave logró una remontada 3-2 contra Portland Thorns en el Grupo B de la Copa de Campeones W Concacaf 2024/25 el miércoles en el Snapdragon Stadium de San Diego, California.
Las visitantes tomaron la delantera en el minuto 25 cuando Sophia Smith marcó su primer gol en el torneo, enviando el balón al poste izquierdo.
Portland duplicó su ventaja en el 54’ por medio de Reilyn Turner, quien remató en el área un centro de Olivia Moultrie.
La remontada de San Diego se empezó a gestar con un tiro de penal en el 65’ después de una falta de Sam Coffey en el área. María Sánchez marcó el primero de sus tres goles en el minuto 67’.
En dos minutos, Sánchez anotó el empate con un cabezazo en el área en el 69’, conectando un centro de Delphine Cascarino.
San Diego obtuvo otro penalti cuando la capitana de Thorns, Becky Sauerbrunn, cometió mano en el área. Sánchez volvió a marcar desde el punto penal en el 85’ para completar su triplete y la remontada de San Diego Wave.
La victoria coloca a San Diego Wave en la cima del Grupo B con seis puntos. El equipo de la NWSL volverá a la cancha en la Copa de Campeones W cuando visite a Vancouver Whitecaps FC el 1 de octubre.
Portland Thorns buscará recuperarse en su próximo encuentro de la WCC, en casa contra Santa Fe FC, el 1 de octubre en Providence Park en Portland, Oregón.
