Nico’s form is a night and day improvement over what it was a few years ago. Brilliant performance for being so young (no pun intended) and I’m looking forward to seeing what he can do in his junior and senior years
Agreed; stride and tactics/positioning in this race were excellent. He was beaten by much older guys with better kicks, but even so, his last lap speed has improved.
@@cber5077 Yeah, I'm glad that the level in the NCAA is so high right now but at the same time it feels a little wrong that I'm the same age as Olin (5 years older than Nico) and I graduated undergrad 3 years ago. Overall it'll prepare him better for when/if he goes pro but it feels a little ridiculous that there's so many 24-26 year old guys in the NCAA.
You guys are on here acting like the kid is 30. He's 25. Not much difference between a 22 year old and a 25 year old. Blame the NCAA for shutting down for a year and a half for covid if you're that upset. BYU's average age on their XC squad is older than Olin....
In the winter before this race, my wife and I were walking around the Capitol in Madison, WI. Olin was running what seemed to be and endless amount of repeats around the Capitol's square which might've been about a half mile. We didn't know who Olin was but he looked so smooth and fast. His feet didn't seem to touch the ground. I remarked to my wife, "He's gotta be an elite runner." As we watched in admiration, on several of the passes he would say hello or nod his head. I am delighted to have come across this video. So happy to see all that work paid off!
Lot of weird Nico comments here. Underclassmen very very rarely win these kind of races - he ran fantastic, and will be winning for years to come. The fact Olin is a 7th year is a testament to him sticking with it for this long. That means he had to deal with a regular year of redshirting + injuries + Covid year. Coming from another 25 year old, it's very hard to keep a fire burning for 7 years. Side note : every NCAA athlete runs against 25/26 year olds from BYU / Southern Utah every year - after 20, it's a pretty even playing field anyway.
I do wish that they would do thumbnails of the start of the race and never put the winner’s name in the name of the video. That would make Track and Field on TH-cam so much better.
UTEP's Suleiman Nyambui graduated when he was 29. WSU's Henry Rono arrived as a 24 yr. old incoming freshman. Wish HS was like this. Would have easily won state as a 22 yr. old.
it's one thing to cut away from a 5K on live TV but on TH-cam you're posting for people who are passionate about distance running and want to see the whole thing uncut. Even if there's no commentary I'd rather see the whole race than see discuss and have random cuts partway through.
You’re not gonna get a fast race every time out. Tactical races do happen. You have to be able to accommodate yourself in all circumstances. I wouldn’t worry too much about Nico. He’s made amazing progress. He’ll be just fine.
Announcers seemed to have Tunnel Vision Focusing on front runners... "Keep an eye on... " so and so. This at same time Hacker came from 15th or so to 3rd and moving... Hmmm! Go Go Badger!
@@kanehiro4635 This comment is so dumb it hurts my brain. The Olympics are for professionals, they can be whatever age they want nobody cares. 7th year seniors have no place in the NCAA, move on already its an amateur competition. What a moronic comparison.

Came here to say this! Looks so smooth and no upper body twisting.
9:11 Young and Hacker trip but recover.
Y’all need to change the thumbnail to the beginning of the race.

Don’t forget the Kenyans are most of the time pretty old also
Wait till they hear the ages of people in the Olympics
Great run by Nico against the 6th and 7th year seniors lol
how is he a 7th year. I guess you can redshirt then covid but that only makes 6 years

Congrats, NIco! Go NAU!
1:56 final 800. Wow
4:06 for the last mile too, insane
Sam Gilman with the 55 last lap
Olin to the OAC 🤝

Awesome job! So happy for you!
Nico ran 13:11 couple weeks ago, not sure what happened to his race tactically
Diferent races diferent environment diferent meanings . Still an amazing race for the young man 👍
That race had a lot of the best guys in the world. Easier to run fast with faster ppl

Nico is an amazingly talented runner, no doubt that he will continue progressing
Nico was able to run last lap in 55 seconds which is amazing for him , he's getting faster and stronger every Year
Jeff Spicoli finally did it!
It will be interesting when college runners get to run against their children in Championship finals.

What a race! Of course the thumbnail spoiled the outcome, but the race was still incredible to watch play out.
What in the heck is up with this audio???? How is it so bad????
You all don't mess around with spoilers, huh? Description _and_ thumbnail?
Making the thumbnail for the video to show the winner. Not everyone knew the result!
The Title is just plain "5K". If you click on the arrow, and see the winner (which I didn't do), that's on you.

How do you spend 7 years in college and still have eligibility? Crazy! Nico is only 19 running agains 26 year olds! Somehow it doesn’t seem right
You can be a graduate student, and also NCAA gave athletes an extra year of eligibility because of COVID.
Imagine the amount of unfairness of the Olympics. Unacceptable to have your first place snatched by someone 35! 😂
