Look back over u2 catalogue from boy to present day....fucking hell how insanely superb are they to continuously evolve and re invent themselves yet still have that unmistakable u2 sound & feel...I feel like my ideals and views walk in time with the best band on the planet,can honestly say I wouldn't be here today if not for achtung baby,at a time when the wheels came off in my life....who's gonna ride your wild horses,ultra violet,so cruel,one & love is blindness definitely dragged me back to my feet. Been so lucky to have seen them live 13 times since Roundhay Park Leeds Aug 14th 93 and if there's a better live act anywhere then I haven't seen it ❤

Supersonic power in this one with that great "signature" U2 guitar sound comfortably in place in-between the onslaught. Perfect song in a surprising and experimental time for the band that had many scratching their heads. True, so much great stuff here.
I liked this album a lot but I think the biggest problem was that many songs didn't get the rigth mix i.e. Please album version is very weak while the live version specially the MTV live version are really powerful, Gone was one of the few who got the right mix.
Had they marketed it a little differently and had the first single be Gone, Do You Feel Loved, Last Night on Earth, or Staring at the Sun - This album would have been HUGE. I think this album is their third best, after Achtung and Joshua Tree, but I still listen to this one more than any other. Absolutely brilliant album. I mean, just listen to this god damn song. This song could have been on Achtung Baby. With the dark and sarcasm filled lyrics + grunge rock + hardrock + electronica and dance rhythm fusions, this song is the closest to Achtung Baby than it is to any other album.
I BOUGHT THIS CD in a flea market near ciudad juárez, mexico back in 2008, during a bussiness trip ,under a burning desert afternoon at around 3:00 PM , the hottest year of that year, i remember the odd condition of that cd: dusty,with some strange stains of what i thik was blood and other marks as if somebody was trying to make a hole on the case, leaving a trace of scratches simulating reptile skin, so strange... when i listened to this song, i felt totally depicted by it, in fact, it sounded as if it was talking ABOUT ME,for some reason, i started to think about the marks on the case, the stains on the cover and lyrics and (for reasons unknown to me to this day) that all those things occurred DURING THIS SONG,it was so strange, but i almost felt the sadness of being into the story this song tells, so evocative of my past days, my long gone family life...i still keep this cd ,but i do not play it so often, i am trying to keep those strange words written on the disc label that read : " despojado de cuanto tenía, solo vago por el mundo,no termines como yo, vive ,muere, pero conserva tu alma...si puedes" (deprived of everything i had, alone I wander through the world, do not end up like me,live, die, but keep your soul..if you can)... life is precious, but it is not something the world concedes without paying a price... cheers to the man/woman who owned this cd before me, may he/she had some peace...
