    Love how modulating via midi cc can unlock the 3p's expressive features. That sounded craaaazy! Haven't tried that yet on mine. No room for me to fit an octatrack into my setup but I might try modding it with a bastl midi looper.

      The velocity sensitivity of all the timbre parameters makes this actually highly modulatable! But yeah, maybe not in the traditional synth sense with LFOs and so forth.

    Oooh I forgot about the midi LFOs on the Octatrack. Just picked up the Nord drum 2 with the Nord pad. I plan on triggering it between the pad and Octatrack and processing it with the Octatrack as well. Can’t wait to get it set up. Was planning on triggering it with the pad and my modular but you reminding me of the OT’s midi LFOs made me rethink the way I’m going to set it up either way I end up doing it I’m stoked. Eventually I want to integrate it into a live setup

    Leave it to Joey to show what this beast is really capable of. Would be a lot more fun with knobs and wigglers. I wonder how much could be done with a MIDI control surface? I don't have a Wave 2 but I have 2 Waves. A modern masterpiece.

    Amazing content as usual. This Nord drum sounds simply beautyfull. I wonder how much "overlap" it may have with a nordModular, meaning how close can you get designing patches sounding like the nordDrum within the nordModular. If I'm not wrong, besides the effects part, shouldn't be possible to program something similar to the nordDrum using the nordModular and its drums modules? Would be great info to know as you already own the nordModular too. I remember the drum module from the nordModular also is splitted nto parts like noise, transient, etc, pretty similar to the nordDrum, isn't it?

  • @g3cd

    Here's a trick for recording rhythms: While you can set the NordDrum 3P to receive MIDI for each pad on a different channel, it sends all pads on MIDI channel 16 - with a note value 60 for pad 1, 62 for pad 2 etc. I use a Midisolutions Event Processor to change the channel of those notes: channel 16, note 60 from pad 1 becomes channel 10, note 60, channel 16, note 62 from pad 2 becomes channel 11, note 62 and so on. Thus I can use drum sticks to record rhythms into my sequencer with seperate channels for each pad. I love drumming with sticks on the pads and I find this way more intuitive than finger drumming on a keyboard.
    Also I sent beats to the Nord Drum 3P at something like 1440bpm, resulting in a square wave tone, it's amazing how capable this little machine is (you can hear that in this video at 2'36" th-cam.com/video/cxPEc3vGlMg/w-d-xo.html)

    • @AudiophiliacUK

      Actually, yes you can send each pad to a different MIDI channel. I have mine sending from MIDI Channels 1-6 :)

  • @trainwreckgrill
    @trainwreckgrill ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I think the biggest reason why the 3P doesn't get the appreciation it deserves is because of those 6 huge pads. Who really wants those other than people that actually play the drums? I'd never buy it because it unnecessarily takes up sooo much space.
    If Nord would make a desktop or/and 19" rack version (looks like it would fit into a 19" rack perfectly as is without those pads) it would sell like hot buns, I'm sure.
    In general I really don't see the point why Nord got rid of rack formats across all their products. Who wants to buy another keyboard for every single synth? I know I don't.

    • @g3cd
      @g3cd ปีที่แล้ว

      I actually love using the pads (and a kick pedal) to record some drum patterns into my sequencer that sound a bit more "human" as velocity and timing vary a tiny bit when playing "live".

    that was sick as shit joey. not my style of music, but was really fun watching you vibe.
    loved the sounds of the 3p, but to get the most of out it an external sequencer is a must, which is why i ended up selling it. i used the westlicht performer euro module to sequence it when i had it, but it was a pain to program, best i could do were different trigger patterns over midi. love how joey sequenced the pitch here. i'd be interested in trying it again if i could find a good option (although elektron is definitely not my bag.) what are other people using?

    This is my favorite Nord Drum 3P review ever. I watched it a dozen times before I bought mine and I've watched it a few times since. It's such a great jam and your commentary is spot on as lyrical punctuation. I've always been a little bit disappointed in any piece of gear I've wanted for a long time, at least at first, but not the ND3P. It has vastly exceeded my hopes and expectations and is probably the best thing I have ever owned in my life.

    what is the end goal of the Nord Drum 3p? is it meant to sit like this as in your set up among other electronics on a rack or was it meant to be played on for live performances as Mini.tool to play drums electronically? or how to best understand Clavia's idea of this unique little product... I went to a store and found it the other day, I needed up sitting and playing non-stop for two hours,.. ha ha.. it was truly addictive... but I am a drummer not a producer or mixer.. So, am new to electronic music production... but it was something about that little pad set up that made me stay.. so checked around TH-cam and found your video now, is kind of amazing what you can do with it, really cool!

    I think the nord drum series is the most f'd up clavia came up with. The nord drum 1 got a mono out, 4 sounds, basic synthesis and no midi cc nor preset management. The nord drum 2 is a bit better with 6 sounds, stereo out, presets can be loaded and CC controlled. The nord drum 3p is the most advanced, but there are those stupid pads and why only stereo out? It could have individual outs. Wish list for nord drum 4: engine is fine, add individual outs, get rid of the built in trigger pads, maybe add a drum sequencer.
