It's pretty obvious what happened at AEW. Matt is friends with Cody. He wasn't friends with the Elite. Cody went back to WWE because some unknown people in AEW were hard to work with.
Cody went back coz AEW doesn't need him, they have a pool of main event talents There he's just a mid carder He thinks he's a main eventer and WWE will see it Just wait for few more months and see him in some random tag team with omos or managing someone

I think if he can make a healthy living doing what he is now then sticking with it for awhile might be the better thing. Sure going to one of the big companies and having a guarantee and the like has to be a hard thing to turn down I’d imagine. But it would be hard to believe that you’d get a genuine chance to elevate in the WWE for him when looking at the history of his time there. Sure I bet that Cody would give you optimism in a return but he’s a different beast I think. Matt had times where he got himself more popular on his own and they largely ignored it and kept him where he was. And if you make a long term commitment and it happens again you’d be stuck in whatever role you’re given. So I can see staying away for awhile to build a name outside of the company and hopefully they bring you back and recognize that name to let you be at a higher level like they’ve done for others who left and came back.
