    You got a good deal! D2 is excellent tool steel and properly heat treated it makes an excellent knife blade. The last 2 or 3 years Cold Steel Securex sheaths have been made with glass fiber reinforcement so if your edge touches the inside of the sheath when you withdraw or sheath it the edge will be dulled. If this is happening to you just make sure the back of the blade is in contact with the inside of of the sheath when you draw it, and hopefully the edge won’t be dulled. This knife is perfect for things that go bump in the night!

      Yes i am definitely stoked for this one! I think its now my SHTF Knife! It seems like it excells at alot minus edge retention, and great corosion resistance, but those things are manageable: ) also feel free to subscribe so you dont miss my knife review content

      Also thanks for the tip about the sheath, i will keep this in mind, ive been trying to get into the habit of doing that with all my fixed blades cause some of my other fixed blades rub against the blade

    Ah shucks. I just got my SRK yesterday. Loving it so far. Might have to get one of those.

      @straighttothepoint3477  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You should man! The srk definitely feels great, and is a great user! This bowie here is a bit of a step up as far as ergonomics, and size! Im not sure what the steel is on the srk atm but in this bowie it is d2 so nothing fancy. Definitely worth the price in my opinion, and they might still be on sale for 100 at Midway.com!

    I got this for $140 on Midway. I'm glad I got it. I was unsure about this purchase, but now think differently. I have one of 3000.
    It's definitely a small sword. Great knife. If you see the deal again, get it. Only downside is there is a bit of handle noise. Not a lot, but a little rattle.

    • @straighttothepoint3477
      @straighttothepoint3477  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hell yeah, agreed, this thing is awesome for the money, think they were on sale because this was made when lynn thompson was the owner and designer for cold steel, they have since changed owners and have since had some quality control issues.. so just more a reason to get one! Also yeah, the noise is from the handle gaurd, which seems like an easy fix

    I got this blade when it first came out, it's Awesome. Absolutely no rattle or looseness in the guard on mine. Sharp AF, Fairly light for a Bowie of this size and feels great in hand.

    If the leatherneck is made like the Ka Bar USMC and has a pin in the pommel holding it all together the guards movement would be a very simple fix. Pop that pin out, remove the pommel and handle, then take a small thin piece of G10, cut a hole to slide over the handle of the with a small amount of epoxy and out it all back together and I’d bet anything the guard won’t move again. I might buy one of these just to prove my theory and even if I’m wrong I’d have one helluva knife!!!

    • @straighttothepoint3477
      @straighttothepoint3477  ปีที่แล้ว

      I could imagine that would fix it! But i dont think it's the exact same design as a kabar because there doesn't appear to be a pin on the pommel

      @@straighttothepoint3477 something about coldsteel knives makes it being huge okay. I'm an unabashed fan of huge coldsteel fixed blades and folders. I absolutely love the raja 2 and expada xl. They are insaine and massive and I love them. Very cool and fun knives but also functional and well made. Coldsteel is kind of it's own thing and I love it.

      That is the case with alot of modern knife companies, some more than others i suppose. The most ive spent on a single knife was 500 about, which is probably too much haha but you can get top quality for cheaper for sure

      @@straighttothepoint3477 I don't care to buy a bunch of knives. As I've gotten older I dont loose them as much so I have a few. I did get a benchmade folder with a hut hook. When the handle-guard is loose,
    you can always wrap & filll the gap with upholstery thread, then coat it with a 2-ton epoxy.

    Just curious, why do people like a leather sheath so much? I know that the plastic has the potential to crack, especially in extreme cold weather, but I’ve heard when people throw their knives in a pack or they’re on the go they have pierced the sheath. I’ve heard of a few guys that keep their knives hair popping sharp have punctured through their sheath into their leg. is that being over paranoid? What do you think?

    • @straighttothepoint3477
      @straighttothepoint3477  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think it might be being a little paranoid, especially if the knife maker gave you a quality leather sheath that's thick enough you shouldn't have that problem. Also i personally like leather sheaths cause when dirt particles gets inside of a plastic or kydex sheath ith can scratch your blade/ dull it.. and the dirt can be a challenge to remove. Also kydex and plastic has the potential to dull your edge over alot of sliding in and out of the sheath.😁 also feel free to sub so you dont miss my other knife reviews

    • @OnTheRiver66
      @OnTheRiver66 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Another reason to avoid plastic is that some are reinforced with glass fibers and when the edge touches the inside of the sheath it will be dulled. All CRKT fixed blade knives have glass fiber in their sheaths, Cold Steel started using plastic with glass fiber the last 2 or 3 years. Morakniv and Glock do not have glass fiber in their sheaths. I have a Cold Steel GI Tanto and when I draw the blade I have to make sure that the back of the blade is in contact with the inside wall of the sheath otherwise I have to resharpen. Some people notice this happening and just think the steel cannot keep an edge. It’s not just an irritation so have to sharpen frequently, it ruins the effectiveness of the knife for self defense, cutting seat belts in emergencies, etc.

    • @thegamejunky7223
      @thegamejunky7223 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@OnTheRiver66
      I have heard this a lot and understand now that I have witnessed it myself. I would love if a manufacturer put the kydex inside a leather sheath and omit the edge where it would tough the cutting edge, atleast to reinforce the sides from potential puncture.
