Note: The Pro here has very muted button sounds compared to what I'm told, is extremely loud on the original Smart. So a very positive change.

@@JoeysRetroHandhelds Well, I thought of getting the Smart Pro though what I really want is the Smart Brick hoping it gets a 4.3 inch display with a 4:3 aspect ratio. I passed up the Analogue Pocket planning to purchase a Trimui Smart Brick instead.

@@dadou193 I do really enjoy the device for it's comfort in the hands and how nice the screen is. I'm mostly only using it for Pokémon ROM hacks so that works just fine, and I've tested a few psp titles but if I'm being honest you're going to want a more powerful device for that. The retroid pocket 4 is coming out real soon and for the price the specs should run psp without a hitch and you could most likely get some good upscaling for it :)

The entire form factor on this device works perfect for me. People complain about the tiny, cramped shoulder buttons and triggers, and itty bitty joysticks, but for someone like me, who wears tighter pants, it's such a refreshing trade off. I hate the side-by-side shoulder buttons on my rg35xxh, so this replaced it for me. I have no trouble finding the triggers and and its a great trade-off, not jabbing through my pants pocket, as I prefer screenside against my leg. Also the contour of the backplate is great for not stretching out the pants with aggressive corners. I get a lot of complaints toward the device, but I have a couch device for the couch, and a pocket device for the pocket, and for me personally, they really hit a sweet spot.

Man, that's kinda tempting. I have no need for this device but I've often felt like I wished my VIta Slim was just a liiiiiitle bit more performant in emulators (like not having full playability on SNES/GBA). This is basically that for retro emulation.

This a good example in that there are many good devices out there today with different use cases. The screen size and ergonomics and buttons give you a different experience. As people collect various devices, I would like to see a solution where you can backup and sync save game data and push to multiple devices so that when you choose a device for the day you can easily pick up right where you left off.

The Fn switch is actually turned off in this video. It's on when it's in the position opposite of the "Fn" label.
You can confirm this in the newer firmware version, as you can set the function that the switch controls, and when you set it to performance mode and have it switched on, the CPU frequency increases in System > Device Info
Performance is pretty good on versions 1.0.3 and 1.0.4

    • @JoeysRetroHandhelds
      @JoeysRetroHandhelds  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@JoeysRetroHandhelds ahh, I see...on release, the switch was mapped to Power Saving mode, so you wanted it to be set to Off like you had it. It'd be helpful if they at least labeled which position was On and which position was Off.

Hi Joey, as a fellow retro gamer who loves the Retroid pocket flip and the Anbernic rg353p, would you recommend upgrading from the rg353p to this TrimUI Smart Pro?
I really love the silent buttons and ergonomics of the rg353p, but the battery life on JelOS and even Android OS on the rg353p is not good. I was hoping for a retro handheld upgrade from rg353p in terms of the nice silent buttons and stacked trigger buttons as well as the awesome ergonomics, and hopefully a better/bigger screen from the 3.5". I was looking at the Powkiddy RGB30 for that 4" 720p screen, but as you said, "this TrimUI Smart Pro is what you hoped the RGB30 would be, and more".
In short, if I am looking for a device that:
    - has a nice screen (like the RP Flip),
    - has nice silent face buttons, stacked trigger buttons, great ergonomics (like the rg353p),
    - has good battery life/sleep mode (little to no battery drain - My fully charged rg35xx on GarlicOS 1.4.9 still had 90% battery upon firing up after 3 months in my drawer).
    - pocketable
would this be a good purchase for me?

Only about 54% or $40 more expensive after shipping. This is shipped. But yes, the RP2S is great too.

Frankly, I liked the design and shape. I only wished it had an Android system and a Snapdragon 8 processor. Then I would be willing to pay twice that price.

Looks good, but my £109 Galaxy A04s plays PSP, Dreamcast and 3DS with ease, so while this looks cool, it's nothing short of a downgrade.
As for GBA, I'd been doing that on low end androids like the Galaxy Ace and Galaxy Young since 2012, so I can't really see much of a point of this other than how cool it looks.
    A solid 4/10.

To me the biggest selling point of the original TrimUI smart was that in terms of build quality and power for the size, it's in a league of its own, without being too expensive. Making something not much more powerful and putting it up against Anbernic and Retroid devices is not smart, and if the price is the selling point for this one, you can even get an actually vita in good condition for 10-20 usd more why bother with this. I like this company very much but seems they're going in the wrong direction. Only handheld enthusiasts like myself would care for this, and I don't think sale numbers will look good.

Sorry m8 this console is literally e-waste and most likely has bad pcb parts that will degrade within less than 2 years. Better spending $150+ for a beefier handled with decent specs and longevity.

Don't apologize to me, I didn't make it. But I think people who aren't as rich as you might have issues with your comment.
