The moment Xena realized how much Gabrielle meant to her. Such a powerful scene. She really let herself go to convey just how much Gabrielle meant to her. I think this was the moment Xena's emotions truly showed and it saved Gabrielle. That will to never give up. To not accept what everyone around her was telling her.

Every stage of this scene has the potential to be cliche and so cheesy. Lucy's honest performance not only saves it but makes it really work. She's awesome.

"You never ran from anything in your whole life. COME ON FIGHT!" That line always got me. That and Xena originally looking around at the room wondering if someone could help her, but then she realizes everyone else has already given up, but she WILL NOT.

One of the most powerful and most emotional scenes of a TV series. Lucy Lawless's acting in the scene is really good. Truly heartbreaking. Gabrielle means so much to Xena.
This is the scene that really made me a fan of the show. It gets me every time. Lucy's acting was so amazing. I felt the pain Xena was going through. I think its one of the best scenes in the show.

Xena the first to discover CPR lol
Lucy said that she was asked to do a third take of this full scene, she told the director she couldn't do it. Then Renee told her, "Yes you can. You Can Do it," and she gave all she had in that scene. It's one of her most rewarding experiences on the show. That was from Lucy's take of the episode in the Xena Universe episode guide book.

wow, this is really amazing. the story might be fictional, but this is one powerful thing to add to it. Xena and Gabrielle always told each other how powerful their bond was. so powerful it would unite them even in death, beyond good and evil, and this considered, even beyond the barriers of fiction

I don't know, the closest thing was Palaemon claiming he killed her but I don't think Xena took his word for it, she was very collected during the fight.

This is the exact scene I went from simply enjoying the series to LOVING it. Incredible acting has me on the edge of my seat, heart in mouth and a tear in my eye EVERY time. The love Xena has for Gabrielle is so intense.

One of the best scenes in the entire series.
The director of this episode said that this was the moment that Xena saw Gabrielle as something more then a friend and was the beginning of Xena falling in love with Gabrielle! After this Gabrielle became her equal and to me that is so beautiful!

Yep right about there. You definitely detect it a bit. She does an American accent so well most people don't realize she's from New Zealand. Every once in awhile you can tell though. They actually made her take speech lessons to get rid of it.

Say what you want but this scene is sooo powerful, deep and emotional. No matter how cheesy this show was at times, moments like this were a true tour de force in writing and especially acting on Lucy’s part. So underrated!!! 😢😭😖

I understand that Gabrielle was trying to help somebody; but Gabrielle went out into the battlefield with the war going on and she went out UNARMED. If Xena had known Gabrielle was about to go and get somebody's child Xena will not have let her go out there by herself. She would have made Gabrielle stay there and Xena would have went out to find the person's child.
I go through the soundtrack a lot but still can't find the music that plays right before/during Gabrielle waking up. Part of it plays a few other times in the show but I can only think of this moment. So gorgeous.
She basically jump started her heart. This scene shows how much Xena loves Gabrielle as a friend and lover

@@meggrotte4760 It was clearly obvious she was at least bi if you watched it closely as many of us did and the actresses themselves clearly stated that Xena and Gabrielle were a romantic couple after the show ended. Pretty sure you can watch t.v. safely today without any indication of homophobia in yourself unless it's the CW (it's pretty gay) so that really has no bearing on much of anything. The subtext was never explicitly sexual, hence the word "subtext." I considered myself a good and decent person while watching Xena and still do today. All that subtext and any further ideas about about what Xena and Gabby may or may not have done in the bedrolls hasn't changed the way I think or live.

I loved this episode and thank you. Realistically, if deprived of oxygen for longer than 10 seconds is usually some kind of brain death. So you do the math. Having said that, I want more snipets!!!
I thought it was more like three minutes? That's what I was told, at least.
I think it's if compressions aren't continuous that's a certain percentage of oxygen loss per second, and after 2 minutes almost certain brain death.
According to a quick web search the amount of time the brain can survive without oxygen before brain damage occurs will vary from person to person. According to the University of California, Santa Barbara, the brain can withstand three to six minutes without oxygen before brain damage occurs.
@@arweninnj I made an error and meant 3-4 minutes. So sorry. CPR helps a lot to keep brain death from happening. Fixed pupils are not reversible though.
It was so painful for me to watch this because today would have been my late husband Tim's 58th birthday. It breaks my heart because unlike Gabrielle, Tim didn't have enough will to live and it's hard sometimes to keep going, keep fighting without him by my side. The one thing that keeps me going is the assurance that we'll be reunited one day.

You must be 12 years old lol if a person drowns a lifeguard has to give them cpr which means they have to put their lips over the unconscious person and breath air into their lungs and press on their chest to simulate breathing so they will hopefully cough up the water and breath on their own.
