another common misconception about the coliseum; it was NOT just for the rich! it was basically a modern sporting event, complete with food vendors and events! everyone was allowed to partake, but tickets were more expensive for better/more prestigious seats, of course.
also yes, they absolutely did flood the coliseum!

I didn’t know that was a common misconception. I was taught in middle school that the front was where the peasants and low class would be. And the royals in the nosebleeds.

I believe "Apple" is the fruit used to describe the Garden of Eden story because in medieval Europe it was the most known known fruit. Further back in time other fruits were used to describe it, usually something that was from the region. However, the original story as far as anyone can tell ... never specifies what the fruit actually is. Probably because it's not really the point of the story.

Its belived that the fruit was a pomegrant it due to the fact that the outside would be poisonous it grows from a tree and would grow in the regions that we would thing the "Garden" would be ( The fertile Crescent)

A dragon fruit would be an interesting option, since Satan took on the form of a serpent, and since he's supposed to appear as a giant dragon in the final days. I think it is an interesting idea

Herb vs tree is not based on size, it's based on stem (trunk) composition and branches. Coconut "trees" are herbs as well.

2:45 the only reason I'd assume we'd think there were three wise men who went to visit baby jesus, is because there were specifically three physical gifts given to him by these unnamed visitors, so we went "oh, well, I guess three people came to his birthday party, right?"

Also, I think it'd be more likely for lightning to strike the same place twice? Since lightning always takes the path with the least resistance, wouldn't the same path have a similar amount of resistance?

For some well preserved ones I think you can even see the colour on the original

12:17 When the first bolt of lightning makes its way to the ground, often, more follow its exact path almost immediately, but a few tend to break from this path. These that branch out on their own path won’t make it to the ground, giving the “bolt” its iconic shape.

Another suggestion is checking to see how fine your flower was ground by rubbing it between your finger and thumb, (ex. "As a rule of thumb [how it feels against your thumb] it should have a [texture] if you intend to bake [X] with it")

The Rosa Parks one is actually replacing one misconception with another. Rosa Parks didn't just happen to be there when the white seats got full and refuse to move because she was tired.
She knew the bus always got full in that spot and that the bus driver would demand the colored section get pushed back, because it always did. She was seeking to get arrested in an attempt to trigger the Supreme Court case that later happened. And, it wasn't her first day of refusing that got her arrested.

A wild thing about the coliseum being used for theatrical performance and a big difference between Greek and Roman plays is Greeks would die off stage. Roman's would just murder their slaves on stage. They wanted REALISM.

    12:19 actually it IS likely
Lightning is super powerful, and it rips apart molecules and rips out electrons from them, basically shredding the air with the electric field
This causes the air in the area to be ionised
Of course since hot air rises and that air is very hot, it won't be there for long, but if another lightning strike is forming quickly after, it's likely to take the already ionised path as it's the path of least resistance

  • @snbalmung
    @snbalmung หลายเดือนก่อน +2

The idea that lightning can and does strike the same place repeatedly is the whole principle behind the concept of lightning rods.
Electricity always tries to follow the path of least resistance. Air offers a lot of it. That's why lightning is drawn to trees and tall structures: so it can reach something solid as soon as possible. And that's why, after the first bolt charges the air particles, subsequent ones find it easier to go along the exact same path.

apple in the garden of eden is a mistranslation from latin as the word for "evil" and "apple" are very similar. apples don't grow in that part of the world naturally so it was probably a pomegranate, date, or fig.

The Spanish flu was during the end of World War I. Spain stayed out of the world conflicts for both world wars. The Spanish Flu is believed to have started in Kansas, USA, and was spread due to the war going on and unsanitary, overcrowded conditions. The video did get it right about how, due to war time censorship, Spain was the only one reporting on it at the time. The height of the Spanish Flu pandemic was during 1920 after the war ended but nation's were scrambling for a vaccine. To this day, we have annual Flu vaccines to combat another influenza pandemic, similar to how the response was to the covid pandemic.

I feel like a lot of context is missing from the original video
I did a project on the history of Santa and christmas for one of my history projects last year
Now the details are a bit hazy but I can still recount the gist of the presentation, just take it with a grain of salt and research it for yourself if you want to know more rather than parroting my words here
    Santa used to wear green
I believe it was a Celtic or German tradition in which two characters representing summer and winter would fight and slay each other in turn twice a year on their respective solstice
I believe it was either the Romans or Greeks who had a tradition of decorating with green plants during the colder months (or solstice?) to celebrate that summer would return
Santa wearing red wasn't Coca Cola's original idea, but they did popularize it
An artist, whose name I can't remember, created the first rendition of the jolly fat Santa in the red robe, which I believe was published in an old newspaper
Christmas used to be a time for workers, who were laid off during the winter months, to create a racket in the streets, and rich people would have to invite them into their homes and feed them, but this obviously made the rich people feel unsafe. They pushed and promoted the more family oriented and consumerist tradition we all know today.
