I love this song. John is a wonderful writer. I've never heard one of his songs that didn't touch me. I heard in an interview, Freddie said he loved to sing John's songs. There is another video with pictures from the movie and it really fitted the movie, just like all the songs they wrote for it. Who Wants to Live Forever, is so beautiful, and has nothing to do with Freddie's fate. If you listen to the lyrics, and know the movie it's a perfect match.

I've always loved this song! Dad, you're so right about this beautiful song having different meanings regarding phases of love. It's as wonderful to hear it now with my husband of 40 years, as it was when we were slow-dancing around the house with our 2 year old listening to it. This song has a lot of emotion for me, I had this playing in the background at my wedding whilst signing the register back in 1999, wonderful song. The Saxaphone part is played by the same guy that plays the Sax in George Michaels Careless whisper.
