Tip of the year for sure. I like playing with the Panthers, and the corners on that team can’t guard those deep post routes by #1 when #2 goes more than ten yards(like a ‘Mills’ passing concept, and the safeties therefore ‘bracket’ the #2 receiver.)
Mills is a major match beater and this tip at least lets me take away the deep ball.

Cover 4 drop is the only spot drop cover 4 just like normal cover 3 is spot drop. Quarters and palms are run correctly.

Best video out there. It's a shame people have to do this in order for deep players to be deep players, but it works!

I believe now that there is a work around to use to get those deep players where you want them, I think that having these match principles will actually end up having good uses very certain route combinations that eventually pop up. Gun Bunch is a formation I would use Cover 4 match principles because of the lack of routes that could get you in trouble if you sprinkle it in
Smart Madden I agree! The only drawback to playing sticks is you can't play hard flats it seems like. What if I want my safeties deep but my corners or OLBs playing hard flat?

Great video, I didn't know that, but people could also just learn football coverages and adjust to different offensive looks accordingly. It's really not that complicated to learn how coverages work and what their weaknesses are and how to minimize them by making quick pre-snap adjustments. In this scenario I would've seen the trips formation and audibled into a cover 3 cloud after seeing the mismatch between the 3-rec hook and the wide receiver, or you can also just man align immediately and it should give the 3-rec hook responsibility to a CB instead of the Mike. Or just convert the play to a spot dropping defense like in this video if that's your preference. Because the coverage worked properly in that cover 4, it was the users fault for not seeing the mismatch between the 3-rec hook and the WR, there's nothing wrong with the coverage, it worked how it should. User error not mechanic error
Na. The game is fucked up. Zones should stay zones but ea decided to sometimes turn zone into man coverage. Its stupid af and not realistic to real life

@@mlc9928 Actually it is realistic. In fact nearly every defense used in the NFL now is designed to convert into man coverage. Pure spot dropping defense is very rare nowadays.

The backside safety is supposed to man up on #3 in C4 Quarters... the match coverage have potential if they fix the game
Absolutely! I love the potential of cover 4 match principles as a scheming D. Now that I can turn it off at will , I feel a bit better to call the D and leave it when I see certain looks and protect the sticks when I see others

This won't be a viable option in most down and distance situations. Foe example if it's a shorter distance for the first down, all of the underneath zones will drop to the first down marker. The deep cover 4 defenders will continue to mindlessly drop deep. This will leave a HUGE hole in the intermediate areas.

Thank you so much for this man.. I just played a freaking game and the guy I was playing kept running the same play on offense and i just had no idea what the heck to do.. He did the same thing on defense though, I couldn't run or pass the ball the only thing I could notice him doing is guessing run and then pinching his whole team to the middle of my line and then when I hike the ball he has pretty much his whole team through my line and I had absolutely no time to do anything as soon as my QB got the ball he was being tackled even in shotgun .. It makes me not want to play anymore when people play like this, it ruins the game ..

Calm Instincts Correct concept principles? So there is only one way to run cover 4? I have my own scheme -- I do not match at all whether it is cover 3 or 4. This is a video game -- players are governed by rules of the game and do not think like humans.
I think the matching is good in cover 3 because it covers corner routs but it can be exploited
Jack Schultz I stay in 3-4 mostly... hardly in nickel or dime -- that's why I don't want to match... might end up with a LB on a WR
SDotFrost cover 4 drop is the correct call if you don't want to run match principles. Cover 4 Quarters has been run indirectly in every previous madden.
I list a game at the last second yesterday cause i protect the sticks. The computer ran a 15-20 yard in route and threw da ball right over my defense that was protecting the sticks

Question now is when to use matching principles on D without protecting the sticks.
Also, how to get CPU to better simulate D for when we practice plays on O. Is there a way to get D in practice mode or exhibition mode to protect sticks a lot more often?
Conan Barbosa in practice mode you will need to use a 2nd controller to setup the defense and then switch the user to a lineman
Seems like a PITA. Or else we run regular Cov 4 drop show 2 & other defenses that don't need an adjustment to protecting the sticks.
There are some great uses for Cover 4 matching principles without using the protect the sticks. Its best use is against compressed trips sets like Bunch to shut down the flood concept. With that in mind, you can really setup your D / user to control the other side of the field and scheme around it
Here's how to "maybe" simulate good stuff in practice mode like we did in M18....
Create a defensive playbook that has 1 or more formations with coverages that best simulate Madden 18 defenses without big adjustments. Cov 4 Drop Show, Man Cov 2, Cov 3 with purple zones....and then 1 or more formations with only defensive coverages with matching principles. Run random plays in either set against your offense. This way you won't have to fidget with the defense every single play.
Is the option to man lock on or off still in game? Also is Banjo coverage in this year?

Man protect sticks been in Madden since 2011 when I stopped playing. They must have removed it and brought it back.

Yes it will still work, but you defense will play more like hard flats than deeper like cloud flats. Cover 2 might be a better option to call there if you want to cover deeper to the quarters in that situation

We are diligently working on videos to explain how zones work this year as a base. We like to do " dynamic" ebooks to make sure each week we put out new offensive formations we use to go against the current meta. If we were to put out 60 play ebook on day 1, it would be tough to know how much would be usuable 2 weeks later. So each weeks as we give you 15 or so play setups, youll know we will have meta in mind

So to use the protect the sticks feature, after the offense snaps the ball and the defense is dropping back do i need to change user player to a different position (CB to LB) and then press L1 ?.......could you explain it a bit more, want to make sure I’m understanding it right because it’s very good info.
