Apart from having more storage you also shaved off some weight as well.

Yeah I have more than 2 rods and I like to store gear bags ect inside my kayak and with the current molded in drop trey it’s not happening so as soon as I get time that was out of there and never looked back..

The reason I almost went with the Lite Tackle II over the Shoalie was the internal storage. Then I saw this video and went with the Shoalie. When I cut out my hatch (soon), I'm going to try to make a quick and easy way to attach the hatch back in there for day trips where I'm only taking a handful of things. I'm wondering if putting a heat gun on the lip of the boat hatch and on the hatch that was removed, and flaring them toward each other will work so that the hatch drops in and nests there within having to mess with any buckles or anything like that?

Good Idea and some have done like a half cut and used that

This is the only change I've made to this kayak. I love it, but I do kayak camping river trips and need the space. I'm looking at ways to make it convertible (snaps, hooks, something...), but just haven't gotten around to it. Thanks for posting this.

Suggestion, same the plastic for welds.

Yeah I always save plastic when cut some off..

I’ll probably go ahead and do this over the weekend. Thanks for doing the video on it. I have been enjoying the Shoalie on a couple river floats so far. Still probably prefer to play around in the ck1 but it has been working really good.

I had wanted to awhile yeah wanted to show the option to do it I know not everyone needs in hull storage but I like having all that extra space

Great video! I was wondering how difficult it would be to remove the inner piece.

Yeah it’s actually pretty simple as long as you prep and take your time. I know this is just one way of doing it.
      Thanks for watching!

Nice work. Next, I'd figure out a way to re-attach the insert so that I can choose whether to use it or not. In fact, if I was Crescent, I'd be working on a Rev 2 that has that feature built in. Some sort of quick release latch system would do the trick.

I actually was thinking 🤔 of that also like maybe some small hooks attached to the side of the cut out and make it where could drop it in and out as needed

So, I'm in the works of actually doing just that. I'm going to attach boat cover snap extenders and make it to where it just snaps back on. That's the plan, at least. I really want both versions.

@@joshb9513 I wonder if you could heat up the material left on the hatch and slightly flare it in toward to center of the circumference, and take the hatch you cut out and heat up/flare it out as well, so that the hatch just sort of rests (or nests) there where it originally was?
