I know a certain place where you can _watch cartoons_ and anime. Especially is useful since they have a lot of off the air shows and movies, that aren't on streaming. Tracking down stuff does get really annoying; I bought a Sakura Wars box set but since the rest of the anime are basically all collector's items, I had to find a way to watch the rest.
Lucy vs Carnage is my all time favorite Death Battle episode. I love not only how it pays homage to classic horror traits with the atmosphere and set up, but how it takes the whole dynamic of the scary monster in the closet coming for the little girl and completely upends it. Both Carnage and Lucy aren't used to having to deal with a foe that poses a threat to them (at least in the context of Carnage residing in the Elfen Lied universe), and both are shocked and confused at the other and their abilities at first. After Carnage's initial shock wears off he takes it in stride and seems to relish the notion of toying with her, still confident he can win, feeding off her growing fear. Lucy in turn seems to grow more desperate and afraid as the fight continues, constantly on the back foot, barely blocking the attacks and trying futily to deliver some damage that may actually incapacitate this thing. I LOVE the choreography, as it is such a welcome unique change to the vast majority of Death Battle episodes where physical blows are being exchanged with fists or blades, whereas in this instance Lucy is using completely unpredictable, practically unstoppable invisible vectors. I admire the creative contradiction in how much she is exerting herself even though she isn't moving all that much. The whole thing feels very Twilight Zone/Fever Dream eerie, which is also why is doesn't bother me at all that some of Lucy's close ups seem a bit wonky visually. I absolutely love the track, the sound design and the voice performances. Combined they stand out in a way no other episode does for me. My only gripe is Carnage's last line feeling very defeatist and petulant. If he had cackled and said something like "Clever Girl..." I would consider this a perfect episode. I even like Lucy's non-reaction at the end. It seems very in character for her not to show any emotion of relief, triumph, or pain. Just calm stony silence contrasting Carnage's over the top joyous demonic screeching. There's a sense of "Thank God she killed that thing" quickly pursued by the realization that "Oh my God, but she's even worse." Such a morbid, bittersweet ending. 98/100
One gripe I had with Mario vs Sonic is how they made Hyper Sonic last as long as the Super Star. The Super Star lasts 15 seconds without extra stars, and the Hyper form lasts a minimum of 50 seconds, 1 second per ring.
This argument has now been rendered mute because of the climax of the Mario movie, which could be considered an origin story and a prequel to the games, so it does technically count towards the fight.
as a fellow autist in the chat, i remember watching the crash vs spyro episode when it came out and thinking literally nothing of the autism tangent. like in hindsight i could try and find reasons it might make me feel uncomfortable, but overall the fact it was used as a way of saying he's smarter than he looks made it come off with no insensitivity or malicious intent.
Ikari beats Fight like a Devil, I said it. The intensity of the song hits insanely hard when Broly and Hulk show off transformations and abilities, the beats at the start and end of the fight induct a calming theme to a burning rage and back to a serene closing.
When this episode came out during exams in my last year in school, I didn’t think too much about the Autism tangent. Looking back at the episode now though, seeing Wiz cover autism in a positive light and how it can benefit some people who are on the spectrum, such as myself, makes me feel happy about myself. It’s weird how they basically diagnosed Cash Banooca of all people with Autism, but it doesn’t bother me at all since they weren’t using it be detrimental to his character. At least that’s how I see it.
I could never find it but my favorite thing about Jack vs Afro is actually something away from the fight itself When that episode was done in front of a live audience, Chad took a picture of That moment Every single face was a loot of pure & total shock. For a brief moment, everyone was beyond shocked that Jack may have lost. According to Chad, it was eerily silent for a few seconds. Even Afro fans were in disbelief I can't find the picture sadly but I know for a fact Chad put it on his Twitter around the time and that moment is genuinely how pretty much EVERY viewer responds to that scene. Right before the big reveal For me, that moment will always be one of the best in this shows history. If not, Top 5, no doubt on it
1:15:32 An interesting thing i noticed In the shot where Jack and Afro exchange blows - the visible bodyparts are the ones that weren`t cut off. We can see Jack`s right arm, and none of Afro`s. And in the aftermath - what do you know? The parts that were not seen - are the ones that were cut. Who knows? maybe this was some very quick foreshadowing.
Also I'm glad you are finally at Season 5. This is home to some of my favorite episodes. As for Season 6, I feel like some of the episodes there are kind of underrated (Black Widow VS Widowmaker & Sasuke VS Hiei). Can't wait for that
I only recently discovered and binged your DB videos. I've seen a lot of other season rankings and reviews, and yours are by far my favorite. I appreciate the thorough background research you give each individual episode, when most videos focus on mostly the animation or just the episodes at face value. Like how you mention more stuff surrounding the series like their promotional videos, DB Cast, or direct comments from the people who work behind the scenes. I also appreciate your knowledge and how often you bring up the music used in each one, not just the original tracks, because I have piss poor knowhow on music analysis or breakdown in general. So it's very interesting to learn about. I subscribed to keep up with the other half of your opinions on DB seasons, and am currently working through watching some of your other Non-DB related videos! Also PERSONALLY, I kinda wish you brought up the promotional teasers behind Eggman vs Wily in Season 1, because that's probably the one that stuck with me the most as it was coming out over the course of I dunno, a week? A month? I've always been major into Mega Man and loved seeing them reveal what new robot master or badnik would be featured in the fight, with both Doctors surrounded by sillhouettes, and then a new song played for each one they revealed over the course of like 5 videos. (Also giving further context to the specific robots they featured in the animation.) I wish I could find those teasers but they don't seem to be on YT anymore. :/
Autism fella here. I completely agree with what you said. I see a bit of myself in plenty of characters. It's perfectly cool to have headcanons of any kind about characters, but I think people just looking at autism as something that makes you quirky is SUCH a misunderstanding of what Autism is. It's a spectrum that can have a wide array of effects on a person. I'm currently in the process of writing a concept for a TV show with a character on the spectrum, and I hope to really go in-depth on what I think and feel, more than just "introvert" and "likes nerdy things".
I think the issue with Crash vs Spyro was that they picked the specific version of Spyro which made the fight a stomp. They could have excluded the legends-series and maybe the "mutant" saga with the redesigns for Crash in order to take some stuff from both. Which honestly is kinda fitting since both are not well recieved new takes on the worlds of both characters with new designs and beat-em-up gameplay.😂
Sonic's max speed is mysterious but his speed that he uses is 9.5x speed of light and they downgraded sonic and downgraded mario and fused some stupid marios into mario and the battle was like a 5 year old fighting a 21 year old.
Wooooooow So far this whole series of your DB reviews have been a real entertaining blast (as well as hilarious on some) but i am amazed how you went all out on these fights and going into detail on what makes them good or bad, personaly i am not a debater or big on the whole "this character wins by this its not fair for the other to use that" type of person, i overall just enjoy the episodes not just for their animation or analysis but for also learning how strong or possibilites a combatant has that i never knew about, and i have been part of the Deathbattle community since i was in middle school (season 3 was the first season i ever fully watched despite Mario vs Sonic 2010 being the very first db i have ever saw, and don't judge me but even tho it is hated i actually like Scout vs Tracer only for its comedy and animation) so yeah i am loving your reviews on all these seasons/episodes and super excited to see you cover the other seasons, bravo👏👏👏👏👏
Optimus vs Gundam is a very unfortunate episode for me. When the fight came out, I loved how visually spectacular it was. But after I full got into Transformers and started my trend into Gundam (and mecha anime as a whole), I realize that while the fight itself doesn't do the characters justice. Now obviously there's the big issue with Optimus being OOC, but considering Death Battle's had to do that for certain characters, I'll begrudgingly let it slide, even if it's Bayformers Optimus in a G1 costume. But Amuro? Hoo boy, while his personality and portrayal is pretty spot-on, the main issue I have is just how much they severely nerfed him by choosing his least experienced self with his least powerful Gundam. I get why; the original Transformer against the first Gundam, but this had a result of limiting Amuro so much. They could've easily given him his final mobile suit, the Nu Gundam (or even the Hi-Nu Gundam if they're using the novel), which offers a wider set of abilities like the Fin Funnels. While it wouldn't change the result, it feels like they knew Amuro wouldn't have a chance regardless of the version used, so they just stuck him in his weakest state. Hell, if they had Amuro eject and switch to the Nu Gundam mid-fight (as games like Super Robot Wars have done), they could've given a chance for more choreography options, but that likely would've been out of their budget. All in all, while the episode is still visually impressive and has other stand-out moments, it stings to watch as a Transformers fan feeling they could've done better, and stings even more as a Gundam fan KNOWING they could've done better.

I dont know this for sure so maybe im wrong but i think season 6 was supposed to be a season with more underdog matches or match ups people werent expecting to see, but using characters that people really wanted on death Battle, like how people wanted Ghost Rider and lobo on the show but nobody expected them yo actually fight each other or how gl most popular match was againts nova but they put them with ben 10, again i dont know for sure

TV Tropes: “The fact that there's an Ambiguous Ending at all; this is the first time ever in Death Battle that the losing character was left with the possibility of surviving - besides robot characters who could simply be rebuilt, or gods simply left with no mortal avatar to fight with. It helps lessen the sting for those who might feel uncomfortable watching the brutal death of a cute innocent ponynote ; especially heartwarming if Twilight Sparkle happens to be their favorite.” Yeah nah *_bullshit._* There ain’t nothing “ambiguous” about that ending; Twilight Sparkle is DEAD. She DIED in the battle. The series is called DEATH Battle for a reason. The series is all about KILLING fictional characters. Wtf was TV Tropes actually smoking when writing that?
Bragging Rights! Season 5 is such a great season and I want to give my opinions on how I loved Mario vs Sonic 2018 to be honest that I really liked Sonic's analysis enjoying Wiz and Boomstick calculating Sonic's speed and I do understand your hot take on it. Speaking of which I did liked Thanos vs Darkseid I know they had problems in the episode but enjoyed the fight for it. Crash vs Spyro is also good but I know the "Crash has autism" line and I can agree it's arguments but I'm not knowledgeable about it but in the fight during the death they did mention in the analysis that Aku Aku could teleport Crash to different locations and I know they said he'd didn't teleport Crash during the mountain feat but he should've at least teleport Crash to dodged Spyro's aether breath. Also the joke in Roshi vs Jiraiya where boomstick says "he's finally stopped getting married" let's just say he was moving his stick so fast that well... you can guess. Anyway I enjoyed this awesome video my guy can't wait for the next one and other seasons in the future.

I have autisim and I never had a problem with the line. This is because the point is to tell that Crash's inteligence is in other things rather then in social situations. Also Crash isn't a character to get mad about. If they said this about a character like Carnage tharmt would be offensive but not Crash

25:16 So the autism thing in crash vs Spyro match up as someone on the spectrum (I was diagnosed with Aspergers for a good half of my life being 23) I never hated this theory from wiz. If they were doing it to fully insult the character or call it a weakness then maybe. But wiz was using it to justify that Crash was just more adapt and better in certain things then socializing or talking. Which with people with Autism or Aspergers (given the case cause the spectrum is more of a neurological disorder which makes each person different on how it affects them) have. So really seeing people who don't have to live in the spectrum acting out for us seems very not cool. Espically if they don't know people on it is even offended. Man I've been keeping that in until someone whose also on it finally discussed this part of the episode
I think that the behavior from those not on the spectrum comes from those wanting to help in their own way, but yeah, the community has not done the best job of it.

As an autistic person my take on the autism tangent for crashes analysis is I personally headcanon wiz as autistic (from inability to understand social cues like from stitch vs rocket, his face blindness like from Scooby vs courage, hell even his kind of compulsive need to have calcs that dbx) so he can say whatever he wants about crash being autistic

I really liked the in-depth look of Jack vs Afro, points you brought up for Leon vs Frank, bringing up cons the wasted potential for certain episodes (especially with Thanos vs Darkseid and its snapping scene in particular, which I especially agree with), and the hilarity in hindsight regarding Phoenix vs Raven in Raven vs Twilight's segment. Now, I consider Season 6 a more polished and ironed out Season 5, and Season 6 in general is highly regarded as a Top 3 Death Battle Seasons contender (I mean, it's _my_ 3rd favorite season of the show), so I'm interested to see your thoughts on its episodes, namely the Mega Man Battle Royale (my favorite episode of all time via bias) and the Green Devil itself.
I really didn’t like how Optimus’s analysis felt completely empty, I didn’t address any of the debt for struggles he’s ever gone through, especially when they’re using stuff like Marvel comic and IDW 2005, sure G1 show may have not have gone through nearly as much as his counterparts have. They can at least address something about how he is able to constantly keep fighting in a seemingly never-ending war in spite of all he’s lost, none of his character besides his nobility and kindness was brought up, and that really bothers me. And that’s not even touching and how horrible he was betrayed throughout the entire fight, to everyone of his lines, and his complete lack of hesitation, when it came to using the matrix, which he has no recoil from even though it’s at points left him near death after using, if not killing him entirely.
I will say as someone on the spectrum I never really saw the Crash autism thing as that bad though it’s also a little funny to just take this humanoid bandicoot and say “this guy, yeah he has autism” just feels very random

While I dont have autism, I do have ADHD. I honestly believe that people are WAY too sensitive about a subject that wasn't even brought up in a negative way. Just because a person has Autism doesn't mean they're stupid. This reminds me of that whole Spastic thing in Deadpool vs Pinkie Pie. Hell, at the time, i didn't even know it was "derogatory" until you said it was. I can be sensitive at times but stuff like autism and "derogatory words" really dont have any affect on me.
In regards to Jin vs Ryu SF5 still shown Ryu with mu no ken was nowhere near Akuma level of power, he points out Mu no Ken vs Satsui no Hado battle will happen, the man himself also outright asking if anyone can match him, not considering Ryu his equal and Ryu claims before the match he goes all out too, he doesnt scale to Akuma at all canonically and given in SF5 story mode it gets heavily implied Ryu with satsui no hado punching Dhalsim , that no sells that only for Necalli vs Dhalsim to end in a draw, let alone have mu no ken Ryu later beat Necalli easily later shows the character in no way scales to Akuma at all, heck Gouken in Ryu story of the same game makes Satsui no Hado Ryu snap out of it after a clash in projectiles, SF4 also has Gouken deal with Satsui Ryu again, sealing his evil side for a time Ryu has no basis to scale to Akuma in any form canonically when nothing suggests it, even by SF3 the latest in chronology (before SF6 appeared at least) has Ryu still not be considered an Akuma level character by characters that are on his level and praise Akuma more Only way he scales is if you use Evil Ryu, which canonically Ryu didnt transform into as far as lore goes, his dark aura or evil glowing eyes in the old games art or the animated SF4 movie isnt Evil Ryu also, Evil Ryu is always depicted as Ryu with darker colors to his outfit and more demonic looks, also both of those are depicted differently in power levels so they arent the same thing either on that Either way the island feat is not even as high as they calculated it and to reach that high you need to consider methods of desctruction of it that dont fit with how Akuma does it in the scene and future episodes like E Honda feat as well, no calcs of it have been anywhere near their result even if you wanna highball it and the meteor feat he does is from a crossover by Shin Akuma Even if by Ryu vs Jin time the jack meteor feat reason for not counting was cuz of no other feats being close to it at the time, its bad as well, tekken 5 DR Jinpachi has a feat which even death battle later calced in Heihachi vs Geese and mentioned was in same league as the meteor, let alone lore implications of higher or close to those in power for Jack and Tekken Force, might as well mention lore on world ending power by two final bosses, whether you like them or not, they exist and other franchises have them too, some even being counted by people despite having less of them by Tekken in comparison, its double standards if you count to one but not the other, which Tekken for some reason cant have just cuz Loved the animation, the music, but i cant stand the research side especially when Death Battle comes up with stuff which most of them later are proven wrong even by them
I think the reason they say daredevil vs nightwing is worse as live action is because it being live action put a lot of restraint on what they could do in the fight and had it be more bland since especially the death was hindered to just being a punch when it was originally gonna be dropping a car on Matt.
The autism thing, yeah it's not offensive itself, but i was left questioning the relevancy. To say nothing of how they then compare him to Kim Peek, who WASN'T AUTISTIC. They could have talked about a more general concept of savants without misidentifying a real person, which IS offensive. (Though being autistic myself I can totally see the Bob's Burgers remark being the case. We know Tina is even if her father denies it, since she shows actual disgnostic criteria from an early age)
Honestly if Thanos VS Darkseid's Death was like your idea then that would of been an automatic 10/10 But it felt really good to hear you talk about some of your favorite episodes. ESPECIALLY Jack VS Afro. That episode was god like and it deserves all the Respect. I do agree I don't think Black Panther is that bad of an episode. (Just felt like need to say that.) And I enjoyed a good amount of the episodes. Carnage VS Lucy and Leon VS Frank were fun episodes, Ultron VS Sigma is great, and even with their flaws, I still had a fun time with Mario VS Sonic 2. (Probably because I am a big fan of both series and this is just my inner child speaking but IDC.) I do want to go back to some of these episodes like Crash VS Spyro, Sora VS Pit, Hell! I didn't get to watch Ryu VS Jin so I would give it a try. I also just found out that the Gundam is suppose way taller than Optimus Prime. *Something I will forever remember.* I am actually pretty excited to hear about the other episodes. Especially some underrated ones in the upcoming episodes. It honestly makes me feel glad you are covering some very underrated episodes.
I love Optimus Vs. RX-78-2 but have to admit, it's a stomp from the start. Mostly from the fact that Prime with or without compositing, has far superior feats, plus the fact they used RX-78-2 rather than Nu or Hi Nu Gundam is kinda unfair for Amuro because by the end of the show, the RX-78-2 has been actually limiting Amuro since the suit just cannot keep up with his Newtype abilities and reflexes. A clash between Optimus using the matrix and Amuro utilizing the Nu Gundam's psycho frame would've gone so hard but alas it wasn't meant to be. Aside from that, Optimus Vs. Mazinger Z would've been a better match up have to say.

I've been watching this series from the beginning so BASED! Anyway I can say that the "Crash could be autisic" tangent didn't bother me since it wasn't done out of malice and I was diagnosed with high-functioning autism when I was around 3 years old.
11:33 I know this probably was never noticed or cared for in this episode but when I was at this part I paused I noticed twilight freezing the soul self and raven in place with some sort of spell? I think thats what it was until we switched to the next shot of the episode showing twilight teleporting outside the tree house so maybe that's why she was unharmed when leaving ....... actually I don't think they were ever really hit by the soul self until the end of the fight directly anyways. But yeah probably never going to get noticed but I just wished to share this comment about it
Being autistic myself and while i do NOT speak on behalf of anyone but myself, i legitimately never understood why people find the idea of Crash having signs of autism to be a negative or even the suggestion of such being bad. Hell, even as a child i actually did think he had autism because, as cliche & cringy as it is to say, he was a lot like me in some aspects Hell, id go so far as to say its an awesome idea!! One of Sony's GREATEST iconic mascots is on the spectrum AND is from a kickass series *AND* is badass in his own way?!?! Strange uses 8 abilities and one of them is basic teleportation. Compared to now with bill vs discord showing they can do a lot for the fight it’s disappointing when we have a raven vs pheonix or Wanda vs zatanna where they use about 8 abilities.
About Dick vs Matt I'm ngl, I appreciate the fight being live action. But a part of me kinda wishes it was sprites or 3D just so I can see both do more crazier acrobatic shit. I'm not losing sleep over it not being sprites and it probably was a better choice but I kinda just hope to see a daredevil fight that shows more wacky acrobat stuff someday but it's no biggie at all !
1:27:59 using lord drakkon doesn't really solve the problem of death battle only using Mighty Morphin. he's still Tommy Oliver, he still uses the white tiger and green dragon powers (at least I think, correct me if im wrong) and, while he isnt technically from mighty morphin itself, its never stated that he ever got to be anything tommy was AFTER mighty morphin (again, correct me if im wrong, but i dont think lord drakkon ever used the black dino thunder or red zeo powers or anything). As a person who grew up with stuff like the post-zordon/disney era of power rangers and is a massive power rangers fan but doesn't really know and specific matchups, I'm sure there's gotta be solid matchups for stuff like the jungle fury, mystic force, in space or even ninja storm rangers. Hell I'd settle with something like Ninja Storm Power Rangers vs Ninja Turtles (not that that matchup makes any sense that I know of, but there's probably some decent connections other than being color-coated ninjas trained by rodent masters... Wait is a hamster a rodent... Whatever.)
Not sure if I have much to say her this time but I will say I think Ryu vs Jin is a very underrated episode, I love that episode, and no, it has nothing to do with me not liking Jin’s character, though I do want more Tekken match ups. Where’s my Bryan Fury vs Ryuji Yamazaki episode? I can even take Kazuya vs Iori or anything with my boy, Yoshimitsu. One other fight I will talk about is Sonic vs Mario 2. I will admit, I wasn’t sure how I felt about the episode at first since the animation itself looks fine but the characterization and pacing was always off to me, especially the characterization since it feels more like a parody of the characters then it does a genuine attempt to emulate the characters but I am not saying that this is a spite match, it just feels off.
Ima be honest about the Nightwing vs Darevil one being worse then Red Hood vs Winter Soldier. I just ddnt like the latter, but admittedly that is my inherent bias for Red Hood and felt they did him dirty, like i would have put him against Punisher instead, but meh this is just my personal opinion, I am sure that it is better in every possible way.
I'm on the Autism Spectrum list and yet Crash vs Spyro literally confused me. Jotaro vs Kenshiro and Leon vs Frank irked me. And the rest of the season was me asking. What's next. My favorite character is gonna die next. Turns out Samurai Jack showed up kicked Afro to the curb and then left.

I know a certain place where you can _watch cartoons_ and anime. Especially is useful since they have a lot of off the air shows and movies, that aren't on streaming.
Tracking down stuff does get really annoying; I bought a Sakura Wars box set but since the rest of the anime are basically all collector's items, I had to find a way to watch the rest.

Lucy vs Carnage is my all time favorite Death Battle episode. I love not only how it pays homage to classic horror traits with the atmosphere and set up, but how it takes the whole dynamic of the scary monster in the closet coming for the little girl and completely upends it.
Both Carnage and Lucy aren't used to having to deal with a foe that poses a threat to them (at least in the context of Carnage residing in the Elfen Lied universe), and both are shocked and confused at the other and their abilities at first. After Carnage's initial shock wears off he takes it in stride and seems to relish the notion of toying with her, still confident he can win, feeding off her growing fear. Lucy in turn seems to grow more desperate and afraid as the fight continues, constantly on the back foot, barely blocking the attacks and trying futily to deliver some damage that may actually incapacitate this thing.
I LOVE the choreography, as it is such a welcome unique change to the vast majority of Death Battle episodes where physical blows are being exchanged with fists or blades, whereas in this instance Lucy is using completely unpredictable, practically unstoppable invisible vectors. I admire the creative contradiction in how much she is exerting herself even though she isn't moving all that much. The whole thing feels very Twilight Zone/Fever Dream eerie, which is also why is doesn't bother me at all that some of Lucy's close ups seem a bit wonky visually.
I absolutely love the track, the sound design and the voice performances. Combined they stand out in a way no other episode does for me. My only gripe is Carnage's last line feeling very defeatist and petulant. If he had cackled and said something like "Clever Girl..." I would consider this a perfect episode. I even like Lucy's non-reaction at the end. It seems very in character for her not to show any emotion of relief, triumph, or pain. Just calm stony silence contrasting Carnage's over the top joyous demonic screeching.
There's a sense of "Thank God she killed that thing" quickly pursued by the realization that "Oh my God, but she's even worse."
Such a morbid, bittersweet ending.

One gripe I had with Mario vs Sonic is how they made Hyper Sonic last as long as the Super Star. The Super Star lasts 15 seconds without extra stars, and the Hyper form lasts a minimum of 50 seconds, 1 second per ring.
This argument has now been rendered mute because of the climax of the Mario movie, which could be considered an origin story and a prequel to the games, so it does technically count towards the fight.
as a fellow autist in the chat, i remember watching the crash vs spyro episode when it came out and thinking literally nothing of the autism tangent. like in hindsight i could try and find reasons it might make me feel uncomfortable, but overall the fact it was used as a way of saying he's smarter than he looks made it come off with no insensitivity or malicious intent.
Ikari beats Fight like a Devil, I said it. The intensity of the song hits insanely hard when Broly and Hulk show off transformations and abilities, the beats at the start and end of the fight induct a calming theme to a burning rage and back to a serene closing.

When this episode came out during exams in my last year in school, I didn’t think too much about the Autism tangent. Looking back at the episode now though, seeing Wiz cover autism in a positive light and how it can benefit some people who are on the spectrum, such as myself, makes me feel happy about myself. It’s weird how they basically diagnosed Cash Banooca of all people with Autism, but it doesn’t bother me at all since they weren’t using it be detrimental to his character. At least that’s how I see it.

Every single face was a loot of pure & total shock. For a brief moment, everyone was beyond shocked that Jack may have lost. According to Chad, it was eerily silent for a few seconds. Even Afro fans were in disbelief
I can't find the picture sadly but I know for a fact Chad put it on his Twitter around the time and that moment is genuinely how pretty much EVERY viewer responds to that scene. Right before the big reveal
For me, that moment will always be one of the best in this shows history. If not, Top 5, no doubt on it

An interesting thing i noticed
In the shot where Jack and Afro exchange blows - the visible bodyparts are the ones that weren`t cut off.
We can see Jack`s right arm, and none of Afro`s. And in the aftermath - what do you know? The parts that were not seen - are the ones that were cut.
Who knows? maybe this was some very quick foreshadowing.
Also I'm glad you are finally at Season 5. This is home to some of my favorite episodes.
As for Season 6, I feel like some of the episodes there are kind of underrated (Black Widow VS Widowmaker & Sasuke VS Hiei). Can't wait for that
I only recently discovered and binged your DB videos. I've seen a lot of other season rankings and reviews, and yours are by far my favorite. I appreciate the thorough background research you give each individual episode, when most videos focus on mostly the animation or just the episodes at face value. Like how you mention more stuff surrounding the series like their promotional videos, DB Cast, or direct comments from the people who work behind the scenes. I also appreciate your knowledge and how often you bring up the music used in each one, not just the original tracks, because I have piss poor knowhow on music analysis or breakdown in general. So it's very interesting to learn about.

I've always been major into Mega Man and loved seeing them reveal what new robot master or badnik would be featured in the fight, with both Doctors surrounded by sillhouettes, and then a new song played for each one they revealed over the course of like 5 videos. (Also giving further context to the specific robots they featured in the animation.) I wish I could find those teasers but they don't seem to be on YT anymore. :/
Autism fella here. I completely agree with what you said. I see a bit of myself in plenty of characters.
It's perfectly cool to have headcanons of any kind about characters, but I think people just looking at autism as something that makes you quirky is SUCH a misunderstanding of what Autism is.
It's a spectrum that can have a wide array of effects on a person. I'm currently in the process of writing a concept for a TV show with a character on the spectrum, and I hope to really go in-depth on what I think and feel, more than just "introvert" and "likes nerdy things".

I think the issue with Crash vs Spyro was that they picked the specific version of Spyro which made the fight a stomp. They could have excluded the legends-series and maybe the "mutant" saga with the redesigns for Crash in order to take some stuff from both. Which honestly is kinda fitting since both are not well recieved new takes on the worlds of both characters with new designs and beat-em-up gameplay.😂

Sonic's max speed is mysterious but his speed that he uses is 9.5x speed of light and they downgraded sonic and downgraded mario and fused some stupid marios into mario and the battle was like a 5 year old fighting a 21 year old.

So far this whole series of your DB reviews have been a real entertaining blast (as well as hilarious on some) but i am amazed how you went all out on these fights and going into detail on what makes them good or bad, personaly i am not a debater or big on the whole "this character wins by this its not fair for the other to use that" type of person, i overall just enjoy the episodes not just for their animation or analysis but for also learning how strong or possibilites a combatant has that i never knew about, and i have been part of the Deathbattle community since i was in middle school (season 3 was the first season i ever fully watched despite Mario vs Sonic 2010 being the very first db i have ever saw, and don't judge me but even tho it is hated i actually like Scout vs Tracer only for its comedy and animation) so yeah i am loving your reviews on all these seasons/episodes and super excited to see you cover the other seasons, bravo👏👏👏👏👏
Optimus vs Gundam is a very unfortunate episode for me. When the fight came out, I loved how visually spectacular it was. But after I full got into Transformers and started my trend into Gundam (and mecha anime as a whole), I realize that while the fight itself doesn't do the characters justice.
Now obviously there's the big issue with Optimus being OOC, but considering Death Battle's had to do that for certain characters, I'll begrudgingly let it slide, even if it's Bayformers Optimus in a G1 costume. But Amuro? Hoo boy, while his personality and portrayal is pretty spot-on, the main issue I have is just how much they severely nerfed him by choosing his least experienced self with his least powerful Gundam. I get why; the original Transformer against the first Gundam, but this had a result of limiting Amuro so much. They could've easily given him his final mobile suit, the Nu Gundam (or even the Hi-Nu Gundam if they're using the novel), which offers a wider set of abilities like the Fin Funnels. While it wouldn't change the result, it feels like they knew Amuro wouldn't have a chance regardless of the version used, so they just stuck him in his weakest state. Hell, if they had Amuro eject and switch to the Nu Gundam mid-fight (as games like Super Robot Wars have done), they could've given a chance for more choreography options, but that likely would've been out of their budget.
All in all, while the episode is still visually impressive and has other stand-out moments, it stings to watch as a Transformers fan feeling they could've done better, and stings even more as a Gundam fan KNOWING they could've done better.
Jotaro Vs kenshiro pisses me off as a fan of both shows they low ball jotaro and highball kenshiro and they barley covered either story and it just pisses me off

Season 5 is such a great season and I want to give my opinions on how I loved Mario vs Sonic 2018 to be honest that I really liked Sonic's analysis enjoying Wiz and Boomstick calculating Sonic's speed and I do understand your hot take on it. Speaking of which I did liked Thanos vs Darkseid I know they had problems in the episode but enjoyed the fight for it. Crash vs Spyro is also good but I know the "Crash has autism" line and I can agree it's arguments but I'm not knowledgeable about it but in the fight during the death they did mention in the analysis that Aku Aku could teleport Crash to different locations and I know they said he'd didn't teleport Crash during the mountain feat but he should've at least teleport Crash to dodged Spyro's aether breath. Also the joke in Roshi vs Jiraiya where boomstick says "he's finally stopped getting married" let's just say he was moving his stick so fast that well... you can guess. Anyway I enjoyed this awesome video my guy can't wait for the next one and other seasons in the future.

Also Crash isn't a character to get mad about. If they said this about a character like Carnage tharmt would be offensive but not Crash

So the autism thing in crash vs Spyro match up as someone on the spectrum (I was diagnosed with Aspergers for a good half of my life being 23)
I never hated this theory from wiz. If they were doing it to fully insult the character or call it a weakness then maybe. But wiz was using it to justify that Crash was just more adapt and better in certain things then socializing or talking. Which with people with Autism or Aspergers (given the case cause the spectrum is more of a neurological disorder which makes each person different on how it affects them) have.
So really seeing people who don't have to live in the spectrum acting out for us seems very not cool. Espically if they don't know people on it is even offended.

EDIT: Yeah, this was pretty good! I really liked the in-depth look of Jack vs Afro, points you brought up for Leon vs Frank, bringing up cons the wasted potential for certain episodes (especially with Thanos vs Darkseid and its snapping scene in particular, which I especially agree with), and the hilarity in hindsight regarding Phoenix vs Raven in Raven vs Twilight's segment.
Now, I consider Season 6 a more polished and ironed out Season 5, and Season 6 in general is highly regarded as a Top 3 Death Battle Seasons contender (I mean, it's _my_ 3rd favorite season of the show), so I'm interested to see your thoughts on its episodes, namely the Mega Man Battle Royale (my favorite episode of all time via bias) and the Green Devil itself.

I really didn’t like how Optimus’s analysis felt completely empty, I didn’t address any of the debt for struggles he’s ever gone through, especially when they’re using stuff like Marvel comic and IDW 2005, sure G1 show may have not have gone through nearly as much as his counterparts have. They can at least address something about how he is able to constantly keep fighting in a seemingly never-ending war in spite of all he’s lost, none of his character besides his nobility and kindness was brought up, and that really bothers me.
And that’s not even touching and how horrible he was betrayed throughout the entire fight, to everyone of his lines, and his complete lack of hesitation, when it came to using the matrix, which he has no recoil from even though it’s at points left him near death after using, if not killing him entirely.
I will say as someone on the spectrum I never really saw the Crash autism thing as that bad though it’s also a little funny to just take this humanoid bandicoot and say “this guy, yeah he has autism” just feels very random
I’m get it sounds stupid (I even watched the caddicarius episode that he was quoting: “bad crash games”) but while I can see classic crash as stupid, modern crash is more plausible with autism.

While I dont have autism, I do have ADHD. I honestly believe that people are WAY too sensitive about a subject that wasn't even brought up in a negative way. Just because a person has Autism doesn't mean they're stupid. This reminds me of that whole Spastic thing in Deadpool vs Pinkie Pie. In regards to Jin vs Ryu
SF5 still shown Ryu with mu no ken was nowhere near Akuma level of power, he points out Mu no Ken vs Satsui no Hado battle will happen, the man himself also outright asking if anyone can match him, not considering Ryu his equal and Ryu claims before the match he goes all out too, he doesnt scale to Akuma at all canonically and given in SF5 story mode it gets heavily implied Ryu with satsui no hado punching Dhalsim , that no sells that only for Necalli vs Dhalsim to end in a draw, let alone have mu no ken Ryu later beat Necalli easily later shows the character in no way scales to Akuma at all, heck Gouken in Ryu story of the same game makes Satsui no Hado Ryu snap out of it after a clash in projectiles, SF4 also has Gouken deal with Satsui Ryu again, sealing his evil side for a time
Ryu has no basis to scale to Akuma in any form canonically when nothing suggests it, even by SF3 the latest in chronology (before SF6 appeared at least) has Ryu still not be considered an Akuma level character by characters that are on his level and praise Akuma more
Only way he scales is if you use Evil Ryu, which canonically Ryu didnt transform into as far as lore goes, his dark aura or evil glowing eyes in the old games art or the animated SF4 movie isnt Evil Ryu also, Evil Ryu is always depicted as Ryu with darker colors to his outfit and more demonic looks, also both of those are depicted differently in power levels so they arent the same thing either on that
Either way the island feat is not even as high as they calculated it and to reach that high you need to consider methods of desctruction of it that dont fit with how Akuma does it in the scene and future episodes like E Honda feat as well, no calcs of it have been anywhere near their result even if you wanna highball it and the meteor feat he does is from a crossover by Shin Akuma
Even if by Ryu vs Jin time the jack meteor feat reason for not counting was cuz of no other feats being close to it at the time, its bad as well, tekken 5 DR Jinpachi has a feat which even death battle later calced in Heihachi vs Geese and mentioned was in same league as the meteor, let alone lore implications of higher or close to those in power for Jack and Tekken Force, might as well mention lore on world ending power by two final bosses, whether you like them or not, they exist and other franchises have them too, some even being counted by people despite having less of them by Tekken in comparison, its double standards if you count to one but not the other, which Tekken for some reason cant have just cuz

I think the reason they say daredevil vs nightwing is worse as live action is because it being live action put a lot of restraint on what they could do in the fight and had it be more bland since especially the death was hindered to just being a punch when it was originally gonna be dropping a car on Matt.

The autism thing, yeah it's not offensive itself, but i was left questioning the relevancy. To say nothing of how they then compare him to Kim Peek, who WASN'T AUTISTIC. They could have talked about a more general concept of savants without misidentifying a real person, which IS offensive.

But it felt really good to hear you talk about some of your favorite episodes. ESPECIALLY Jack VS Afro. That episode was god like and it deserves all the Respect. I do agree I don't think Black Panther is that bad of an episode. (Just felt like need to say that.) And I enjoyed a good amount of the episodes. Carnage VS Lucy and Leon VS Frank were fun episodes, Ultron VS Sigma is great, and even with their flaws, I still had a fun time with Mario VS Sonic 2. (Probably because I am a big fan of both series and this is just my inner child speaking but IDC.) I do want to go back to some of these episodes like Crash VS Spyro, Sora VS Pit, Hell! I didn't get to watch Ryu VS Jin so I would give it a try. I also just found out that the Gundam is suppose way taller than Optimus Prime. *Something I will forever remember.* I am actually pretty excited to hear about the other episodes. Especially some underrated ones in the upcoming episodes. It honestly makes me feel glad you are covering some very underrated episodes.
Um, in dome shots in the fight Gundam is very clearly taller than Optimus. Maybe a little shorter than he should be, but still noticably taller.
I love Optimus Vs. RX-78-2 but have to admit, it's a stomp from the start. Mostly from the fact that Prime with or without compositing, has far superior feats, plus the fact they used RX-78-2 rather than Nu or Hi Nu Gundam is kinda unfair for Amuro because by the end of the show, the RX-78-2 has been actually limiting Amuro since the suit just cannot keep up with his Newtype abilities and reflexes. A clash between Optimus using the matrix and Amuro utilizing the Nu Gundam's psycho frame would've gone so hard but alas it wasn't meant to be.
Aside from that, Optimus Vs. Mazinger Z would've been a better match up have to say.
Do not like Mario vs. Sonic 2 for a lot of reasons and I'm glad to see someone else point out its issues.
Also, my issue with Crash vs. Spyro is more that the fight feels so fucking static and like it doesn't move much.

I think thats what it was until we switched to the next shot of the episode showing twilight teleporting outside the tree house so maybe that's why she was unharmed when leaving ....... actually I don't think they were ever really hit by the soul self until the end of the fight directly anyways. Strange uses 8 abilities and one of them is basic teleportation. Compared to now with bill vs discord showing they can do a lot for the fight it’s disappointing when we have a raven vs pheonix or Wanda vs zatanna where they use about 8 abilities.

About Dick vs Matt I'm ngl, I appreciate the fight being live action. But a part of me kinda wishes it was sprites or 3D just so I can see both do more crazier acrobatic shit. I'm not losing sleep over it not being sprites and it probably was a better choice but I kinda just hope to see a daredevil fight that shows more wacky acrobat stuff someday but it's no biggie at all !

As a person who grew up with stuff like the post-zordon/disney era of power rangers and is a massive power rangers fan but doesn't really know and specific matchups, I'm sure there's gotta be solid matchups for stuff like the jungle fury, mystic force, in space or even ninja storm rangers. Hell I'd settle with something like Ninja Storm Power Rangers vs Ninja Turtles (not that that matchup makes any sense that I know of, but there's probably some decent connections other than being color-coated ninjas trained by rodent masters... Wait is a hamster a rodent... Whatever.)

Not sure if I have much to say her this time but I will say I think Ryu vs Jin is a very underrated episode, I love that episode, and no, it has nothing to do with me not liking Jin’s character, though I do want more Tekken match ups. Where’s my Bryan Fury vs Ryuji Yamazaki episode? I can even take Kazuya vs Iori or anything with my boy, Yoshimitsu. One other fight I will talk about is Sonic vs Mario 2. I will admit, I wasn’t sure how I felt about the episode at first since the animation itself looks fine but the characterization and pacing was always off to me, especially the characterization since it feels more like a parody of the characters then it does a genuine attempt to emulate the characters but I am not saying that this is a spite match, it just feels off.
Ima be honest about the Nightwing vs Darevil one being worse then Red Hood vs Winter Soldier.
I just ddnt like the latter, but admittedly that is my inherent bias for Red Hood and felt they did him dirty, like i would have put him against Punisher instead, but meh this is just my personal opinion, I am sure that it is better in every possible way.
