    Although Nitrogen has been used in beer for 60 years, this beer innovation is still winning the minds and hearts of drinkers around the world today. Nitro Beers are creamy, foamy, and delicious. But how did they come to be? And are there any drawbacks to replacing good old CO2? Ryan answers all these questions today on Beer by The Numbers.

    Hey, Just thought you might be interested, the bubbles in nitro beer actually rise very fast. They appear to "fall" on the sides of the glass because the nitrogen bubbles rise very quickly in the middle, creating a sort-of current in the glass.

    I feel like most nitro beers dull out the flavor. I've done many side-by-side and it's rare for me to enjoy the nitro version over it's non-nitro counterpart. One exception for me is Left Hand Milk Stout. That is amazing. I've also had Firestone Walker's Nitro Merlin recently and it was extremely tasty, too. Once again, another great video with a ton of information. Keep it going, brother.

    Nitrogen masks so much flavour is astonishing. If you ever have the opportunity to try side-by-side nitro/no-nitro - do it. Trying hand pumped Guinness (from a metal barrel made for nitro) made me think it was actually an OK stout.

    I'm not big on reds or ambers but I really enjoyed the Kilkenny Nitro. Otherwise Left Hand Nitro Milk Stout and Belching Beavers Milk Stout are quite dandy. Speaking of Milk Stouts, perhaps do a video about lactose in beer? A lot of people I talk to don't know why you would ferment with lactose of understand the notion of sugars converted to alcohol, but the sweetness from lactose not being converted to alcohol. Idk. :-p

      @@Kingcommaalex if you like left hand then I think you would dig on belching beaver. I honestly think I prefer belching beavers peanut butter nitro milk stout to left hands. There's also a "Mexican chocolate peanut butter stout" that is pretty awesome. I think left hand has more offerings that I dig on, but man, the peanut butter nitro is pretty damn tasty.

      @@saneneweyes6189 left hand is my fav brewery bc I’m a big sucker for nitro beer and they have one of the biggest selections in the country. But I will definitely look into your suggestions, I appreciate them. Southern tier black label beers are my second fav behind left hand (check them out if you haven’t), but 3 years later and a quick reply I appreciate you nonetheless dude and I hope you’re doing well; keep drinking good beer and have a good night!

    • @saneneweyes6189
      @saneneweyes6189 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Kingcommaalex @Alex King I don't think southern tier has much distribution up here in the pacific northwest - or in the west coast in general. I will have to keep a look out though. I dig on nitros for sure but in terms of general styles of beer, stouts and Belgian strong ales are my usual go to, though they both are a little heavy for summer time. Not big on IPAs. I find them pretty overrated. There are a few I don't mind from time to time but I never actively seek them out for my own consumption.
      Always down for good beer conversation- even if it is three years later. Cheers!

And nitro beers always strike me as something that only bearded hipsters with man-buns drink. Give me a beer that's so thick with flavor I need to chew it.
