  • Piano player and bandleader William “Count” Basie brought America out of the Depression with the elegant and irresistible swing of Kansas City. Establishing 4/4 swing as a primary jazz style, The Count led one of the greatest big bands of all time, featuring the hard-swinging All-American Rhythm Section, iconic soloists, and a communal feeling that kept the dance floor moving all night. In this hour-long narrated concert featuring the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, crowd participation, and engaging storytelling by Wynton Marsalis, families will learn about Basie’s exciting career and infectious music.

JLCO and Wynton are national treasures. I love what you do. I especially appreciate your attention to my favorite big band. The Basie Band always makes one feel better! Thank you for bringing this music to the attention to our young people.

Yes, and many could argue that Wynton Marsalis has taken over Bernstein's place as the great American music educator

What a great concert and lesson! One of todays great jazzmen teaching future generations about possibly the greatest jazzman of all time. I saw him in Sheffield in 1974 and have followed jazz ever since.

pas du tout d'accord avec vous ! au contraire ! c'est un plaisir de l'ecouter. Un homme tres eduque qui sait parler sa langue. Qui connait sa musique. Je suis fan de jazz depuis 1955. j'avais 16 ans. Calculez mon age actuel. Bravo M. Wynton Marsalis. Vous faites honneur a votre pays.
