The really weird thing about a Lenco transmission is it doesn’t matter if you shift right to left like he does in the video or you can left to right. Whatever your preference is, you can’t change in the middle of shifting though, I don’t think. Those things must have some crazy synchronizers in them.
I remember reading an article in Hotrod magazine back in the 90's about the Lenco, I believe it was titled "when the planets align"; it's cool to see one in action.

Only thing sweeter than the 67 to put it in would be either one of my pops 65 Cutlass. Probably the f85 over the 442 but hard to make changes on original cars. Love the beauty none the less
Aww man this is a sick car! That is some of the smoothest gear shifts I have ever seen, and with no clutch DROOL...... The finish looks like matt black to me and is a perfect touch, almost stealthy. It kind of reminds me of something the Green Hornet would have driven if this car existed back then. Beautiful piece of art and the sound is music to my old tone deaf ears!

This is a real car which requires a real driver & carries a plethora of real engagement, enjoyment, emotion, and visceral rawness unlike hitting a button on a computer & a computer on wheels then sends a command to "go fast". Speed + nothing else = NOTHING.

So, how does one shift it? How does downshifting work? Do you ever need to use the clutch apart from pulling away? Where’s neutral? Do you have to use the gearbox sequentially? Many questions need answers!
First and reverse you have to use the clutch any other gear is like a sequential setup, When you down shift you have to use the clutch as well, also in the past people have had issues with them not wanting to go into first unless you completely stop. They were originally meant for the track but people used to put them in their old hot rods on the street and race them.

I guarantee he blew engines constantly that was new territory back then to turbo a rotary to higher numbers with a blow through carb too no computers no fuel injection all old school mechanical oopsies new motor every few weeks Thing was like. A funny car the size of civic hatchback in the 80s what a wild ride that would be
You can in fact pull the shortest lever back first and then work your way to the right. You might find that the spread or drop between gears works out better for your engine/ rear end combo. Each section is two gear ratios, not always the same difference between ratios.

And why do these gear levers jump around a certain speed (or rev?) to, what I guess, is the ready position?

@@Hoaxer51 It is similar to those American Semi's 16 or 18 speed transmission only uses the clutch on 1st gear and becomes a clutch-less manual.

Yeah. When you let off, with a Lenco, it’s like pushing in the clutch. The engine and trans aren’t “attached” anymore, due to the one-way sprag design
