I decided to have a shot at riding at Lance Armstrong's record breaking power up Alp D'Huez. Lance set the time during the Individual Time Trial of the 2004 Tour de France and averaged a staggering 495w. This was brutal...

Still think your ban was one of the most unfair in the cycling history. For a start any championship on zwift should have forced everyone on the same bikes anyway.
It's good to see that he can poke fun at the whole thing
No, it was not unfair, rules are rules.
Its unfair because hé had the same bike but didnt “earn” it nu rid8ng countless hours in zwift, at least thats hoe i remember it
@@timurpapba520 yes, his 'trainer difficulty is unfair' buddy told him about bot riding in zwift. Something like this. Cheating is cheating, his opposition manage to get the bike and be ready for competition. Harsh was ban from UCI, considering they let some people fly with more serious cheating.
Technically cheating but I get why. Having some sort of World of Warcraft style grind for unequal equipment is BS.
good effort mate, welcome back lad
Thank you mate
Yes, Yes, Yes! fantastic effort Cam!
Thank you mate
Another way to do it is give yourself 36min, and see how far up you can get.
Oooo I love that
What s Jonas, Primoz or Tadejs avg Watts and fastest time ?
They’re lighter than Armstrong - so they might not require to smash 500w to reach the same w/kg north of 6.5w/kg
Couldn’t care for this comparison unless you are also souped up with performance enhancing drugs. Assuming you are not then it’s never a like for like comparison against Lance the cheat.
Great effort mate, its probably two minutes more than I could do!
record doesn't matter...he was doping!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You can't compare yourself to Armstrong because he was on drugs.
Even without the drugs Armstrong was a better rider.
Funny... All the masters are chiming in with their glory day stats.. Yup, they all missed their world tour calling 😂
Hahah
Well mate you did already 2 minutes at Lance's record pace, only 35 minutes more to go !!! You can do it :)
Haha
You can't break Dude cause he's using motor that was made by Stefano Varjas.
what is the point of comparing yourself to the greatest cheater of all time?
For a slice of humble pie!
Welcome back cam 👍 Really missed the vids
Thanks mark, hoping to push forward again now
this was less about the effort and more about the sponsor
Who cares?Lance was the ultimate cheater.
Pantanis 1995 time is the quickest ever up the alpe and he went the wrong way at the last corner. Also armstrong was 18 minutes behind that day that was the real arsmtrong.
But it wasn't the real Pantani.
They are both frauds..
If I pay you 6 million in year you will try much more and yeah, you are not pro even.
@@luksuriasbroken English lol
@@edwardojg did you understand it, english is not my mother language
Watched the TT live in 2004. Stayed in the campsite 500m away and woke at 3am too excited to sleep so walked up the mountain.... with 1 million other people following 4-5hours later. It was 6 people deep all the way up. Saw all of the greats: Basso, Ullrich, Big George, Virenque, Boonan and The GOAT. It's a shame the TdF have never held a proper mtn TT like the L'Alpe since. Then LA won the Le Grand-Bornand the next day. Corr what a tour! Top Fuel cycling at it's best!
Ahhh. What I'd do to experience that
Hey, I was there as well. I still remember the crowd shouting "Ja Ja" for Laurent Jalabert, and when Armstrong came shortly after him, they continued "Ja Ja"!
I was there aswell, at a campsite called la cascade at the bottom of the mountain. I remember that day vividly!
I was there too! Atmosphere was amazing everyone camping at the side of the road having a few beers! Great time!
I slept kinda propped against a tree maybe a third of the way up the course. I remember it started to rain just a bit but held off. Remember seeing the US Postal bus go by in the night.
I'm 195lbs and love climbing hills on a bike, but I couldn't do 495 watts for 30 seconds probably. I run out of O2 fast.
Did you do it full of EPO and testosterone?
take all the good stuff now and see how much you improve
Hahahahaha. Stay tuned for ep.2
While this is an entertaining experiment, I think you are really downplaying how strong drugs are. People in general who never been around hardcore users are really naive. Anyone can stay up for 2 weeks (yes 2 weeks) doing meth. And I'm talking being hyperactive and extremely energetic for all that time, with no sleep at all and above average strength. Now, you try to stay awake for 2 weeks "clean" jumping up and down and tell me how that goes... and this is just by downing street quality cheap meth. So, I can't even imagine how superhuman top level scientist grade doping programs can get you.
Eddy Merckx said it. Its not about the bike, its about the engine on the bike for 99.9% of cyclists. Get fitter, lose weight, train more : this is where 99.9% improvement begins and ends.
Great video mate. Lance is the GOAT and look how fast all those rim brake times are still to this day. Makes the new tech look laughable. 7800 FTW! :)
Nice one Harley. Lance is the goat for sure.
Great to see a comment by Harley - you're a classic of Australian cycling 🙏
Right, and George Santos is the best congressman ever 👍
It’s always funny to read people’s opinion on the « greatest » cyclist without ever considering Greg Lemond. And for the sake of considération, not even mentionning Cadel Evans while looking up to Armstrong and his contemporaries.
@@grosmince Quite true, Lemond was a class act compared to Mr Lance New Age Pretentiousness..tho Harley has an obsession with the guy
Great Video, I have a good knowledge of cycling and performance-enhancing drugs, and believe me, even with the juicing at the time, Armstrong and Pantini's achievement is off the scale and to be respected.
Nice one mate
Anyone catch how he says 'pigment of my former self' at 6:28. Isn't the phrase meant to use the word figment?
Figment is the correct word, yes
I can hold 495w for 1-2mins when I peak each year... holding that for +30 mins is wild no matter how many drugs you're on.
yup!
I’ve done 500w for 5 minutes before and I could t walk for days after. 😂
Sure you did. Proof or never happened. Strava
OUCH
Excessive sharting is required in the final sprint. That's the realm of champions.
According to my Garmin the longest I've been able to sustain 500w is for about 14 seconds. Do I win a prize?
Record still belongs to Pantani from 1997. The same year he's set the record for Joux Plan.
The colour combination of the jacket and bib shorts looks good!
Thanks mate. Attaquer smashing it out the park
Probably depends on how many performance enhancing drugs you inject 💉.
My 30 second power is only 540w so not much longer than that for me!
That's still solid mate!!
I thought it was a bit of a short vid for a 36 minute climb. Assiomas without doubt the best powermeter money can buy. Great sponsor.
Nice one steve
Research yourself before talking NONSENSE. The first three times of Alpe d'Huez's climbing on 13,8 km : 1. Marco Pantani 36'40" (1995); 2. Marco Pantani 36'53" (1997); 3. Marco Pantani 37'15" (1994)... 4. Lance Armstrong 37'36" (2004) but DELETED.
I thought pantani had the record up alpe dhuez
He does 😊
That record will never be broken
@@Dadember I agree, but there are some pros who would like to give it a go...
@@markdeane8385 .....he'd have to be dopped out of his gills like Lance and Marco to get close.
@@samuel8590 👍
It’s a brute of a climb, so hard….i did over 80kph without pedalling between bend, that explain how’s steep it is
Like a yonkie? Just use drugs. Nothing else.
Easy.
Don’t be him. Be clever
Using 2 much energy swaying around. Should be really still in the upper torso. Nice effort. Back 2 the drawing board
I wish you would have shown your heart rate data when riding... THAT would have been cool too. Great effort, though! Did you make it to the top?
You should have displayed your heart rate data. What’s your weight? Pantani was 50kg.
#dopestrong
Brill intro !!!! What a load of old BS was that Zwift banning. Almost had forgot
Yup! Still makes me chuckle though
It's a killer
Marco Pantani also doped 😁 They must give back everything to Lance. All cyclists doped in his time so it was fair. Lance still one of the Best. Chapo to Lance!
super impressive effort. Specially if you take into account that there are suspicions that EPO aside, Lance was using a motor at the time in the big stages.
You're comparing drugged up with normal. Very few riders can do those Wattages in the top professional today
You mention Armstrong releases his power file. Where can I find it?
I thought i was a pretty ok, way below average but pretty ok rider.. but i average 150 watts on a good day.. im so shit
Well done Cam at least it gives us all a clear impression of exactly HOW HARD that effort is! Like you say - drugs or NO drugs! Chapeau
Thanks Veloman
"A pigment of my former self."
Lol
Why title this re Lance's best time when Pantani holds the record, done after a full road stage as opposed to a TT?
Utter waste of time, that was simply an advert for Favero Assioma power pedals, utter garbage content
Great to see you again Cam and another totally insane idea lol always love your honest effort whatever you are doing
Thanks William. You know me haha
3 years on my Asioma's... No problems at all !!
Great job.. you didnt have the benefit of the adrenaline of competition
I don't know how this climb became so famous. It's one of the ugliest there is, always a lot of traffic and it ends in one of the ugliest resorts in the Alps. There are so many nice cols to do, including nearby, that you don't want to be cycling up this uninteresting road!
I agree, actually.
Oh your another cheat. All lances records should be banned.
Maybe you'd come close if you had 5-8 years of a full doping program behind you.
21 switchbacks, 21 kph, 21 hemoglobin
go big or go home
It's 6.9 watts/kg...not just watts. A big rider can do higher wattage, efficiency is all that matters.
Exactly…I was like what is the point of holding that watts? It’s not apples to apples.
Why did you get banned? New to this channel
He botted zwift to unlock a bike that provided an advantage prior to the world champs. No actual cheating in competition, just had a bot riding for him offline
@dvoob wow so they ban him for unlocking a zwift bike 🤣 absolutely ridiculous
Ahhh, long story. It all got blown way out of proportion really. But made for a decent story!!
Where have you been lately 😊
Life. But we are back!
needs to be at the same temp as theirs. Apples and oranges otherwise. Heart rate goes up as temp goes up.
9-11mph... more than 490W?
and some cyclist think that using epo and peds will make them like a pro 😂
Stop putting this man on a pedistall, he was doped to his gilles. And a bully
Que quieres compararte con un ciclista dopado, uno de los más sucios de la historia???😮😮
I can average 495 watts for quite a few seconds.
Most of us cannot hit anywhere near that… maybe when i was 16 ( now 67)
Why do people still talk about this serial drug cheat
Lance Armstrong record???? Record Marco Pantani 36 ' 30" 1995 tour de france
The pirate was the man
The man was on drugs!!!! A cheat in other words!!
Is that a childrens bike you are riding?
Armstrong is not a good example. Wrong video.
Depends which drug you took…
That just means we can get better and better!!!
you cant and he could never sustain without epo
Where's yer paw? Need more Dad content with Chris lol. That moment when breathing control goes out the window really hurts.
Was wondering what had happened to Pritchard, that Chamonix camper van video was cool.
Chris is a busy man these days. Trying my absolute best to get him back for a video
@@Cameron_Jeffers Thanks for that update on Chris. I've been wondering what happened to him.
Depends on what kind of of drugs U using
I would try it again. With juice.
Holding nearly 500 watts for over 2 mins is still impressive mate. Surely you're putting out more w/kg than Lance though? Maybe you should try giving it a bash matching the same w/kg instead because you're probably lighter i'm guessing
Thank mate. Nah Lance was a touch lighter in his prime! It's hard being 188cm haha
Lance was on way better dope plus used a motor
First innit
Miss you...get back on TH-cam 😊
I really miss you, CP. Hope all is well. Hugs to the kids. ❤ Hartey
Miss you like a fat kid misses cake pritchy
They should let all athletes get juiced up.
Depends on how much juice you are on.
Are you a Cincinnati Reds fan?!?
thats a whole lot more than I would manage
Hahha.
Lance has said publicly on the Move broadcast he could hold 500 watts for 30 minutes in his prime.
Cam, you could drop all of us. We get how hard it is.
Thanks for the reminder.
Different level isnt it
Assioma pedals are simply the best. No one else compares! Great video Cameron!
This is good to hear. I really rate them
What a ego man!!! First think he is like a "pro" and think that you ban is unfair!!! With just 10 seconds of video is a unfollow right now!!!!
me? ego? you really dont know me man lol
Hey Cam, what’s the gilet you’re wearing in this vid?
Hey Saro, it's a quilted one from Attaquer, fantastic bit of kit
How long? Until the drugs run out 😮
Good video, small suggestion to add your HR if possible to the graphics because I think it gives me a better indicator of how you are feeling than a face cam even.
Yeah great idea. I actually forgot my HR monitor
proper training, proper nutrition, and proper "supplements" would get you a very respectable time up that mountain, bruh.
"Respectable" is an extremely subjective term.. respectable for ?: a pro, an amateur, a 200+lb rider etc.
I wanted to add something that people should know. Lance recently admitted during an interview that the EPO he was taking granted him an additional 50 watts during a climb such as Alp D'Huez. He said he puts out 450 when completely clean. Still impressive for sure, but i wanted everyone to know the reality of things.
He most probably lied about this as well. The guy will never go full honest.
Armstrong is a pathological liar.
Did you take the same as he?
Yeh nah. You need the juice.
I use the Assioma Duo Shi's, love them. I swap them between my indoor bike and road bike for consistency.
Jesus that's some effort. Would have liked to see you complete the climb and your own average power for it.
The most I've done for 2 mins is 470 watts, not bad for a 50 year old. 😊
Plausible for sure mate! Good to hear your experience with them too.
