I chose the build to order option for my 2018 and only ordered it with 2 extra features. I got the better led headlight direct from from Indian which was super bright. I also ordered mine without a faring because my dad had a spare if I ever decided that I wanted one, and I ordered the street tires as well. Ordering the bike with the street tires and headlight only bumped my final cost by a few hundred which was fine. Other than that, after I had it for a few months, I ordered a set of Vance & Hines slip on exhaust, a Corbin seat, Vance & Hines air filter to work alongside the better exhaust, and I did an ECU remap and added Vance & Hines Fuelpak system which custom tailors fuel mapping by how you ride. As far as the suspension goes, RaceTech is one of my sponsors for fmx freestyle motocross and when I use to race the East Coast MX Series, so I have had a 24 year relationship with them, they worked their magic on the forks and shocks, and as always, like with every dirt bike suspension that they have done for me, they did an awesome job re-valving the suspension and fine tuning it for my weight. That is the one thing that street riders seem to not understand when it comes to suspension. Most riders that want a better riding and more comfortable suspension spend an arm and a leg on an aftermarket suspension system when they don't need to. A simple spring change and re-valving in the forks and rear shocks makes a massive difference at the fraction of cost compared to a brand new aftermarket suspension. The bikes suspension not only reacts to the road and how you ride, it heavily reacts to how much the rider weighs as well. If you want a softer suspension that is more reactive, a re-valve is a MUST. Being that I am only 5ft 7 inches and 156lb, my suspensions require a softer rebound in the valving and a different spring in the forks. You will be amazed how much more of a comfortable ride it becomes with a simple re-valve of the suspension. Springer style seats will take the edge off, but a re-valve will make it ride like a Cadillac.

He also said that the Metzeler tires are also a good option for street tires if I ever wanted to try something different down the road. He had a set of those on his 2007 Triumph.
Those are both the top recommended for scouts ive seen in forums. I might switch it up this season but i have commander IIs because i put a lot of km on
@@canadianrydz7057 I had Commander II's on my R1 Raven before I sold it. They definitely last a good while. I really like the Pirelli Night Dragons. I had a few times last summer where I had to ride my bike on wet roads because it rained on me, and they gripped the road nicely. They do really nice on winding roads. I live in the southern part of Virginia, and my dad, uncles and a few of my cousins like to head to the Blue Ridge Mountains and cruise the roads. My Indian is definitely more comfortable to ride for long periods of time compared to that crotch rocket I had. My butt, arms, legs and back thank me every time I get on my Indian 😂
Yes , I noticed that when you switch to bright I couldn’t see anything ,because it shined up in the sky. So i tilted it down more and it worked . I think the install the light in the daylight or something
I think my stock Scout headlight is pretty good, but from new it was pointing at the sky. On high beam the road went dark. Once I adjusted it down to where it belonged it works fine. But I'll be updating anyway.
Thank you very much for making this video! My wife and I are both experienced Riders and we are buying new Indians next fall. I am getting the 2020 Indian Chieftain Dark Horse with the 116. She loves the Scout bobber, but was concerned it would not be a good long-distance motorcycle to ride. If I were buying it for long trips I would probably go with the scout, that rear fender sure comes in handy. But I bought it for looks and don’t regret it at all. You should check out jay fast on youtube as well. He recently did a trip to southern california and temporarily turned his bobber into a bagger. Seems to have worked for him

My wife currently has a 2010 Honda Fury and we ride 6 to 10 hours in one day ( on a long ride) but it's usually 45 miles per hour enjoying the scenery so we don't get in a lot of miles, it's still seat time. The problem with her current bike is, it has a very narrow front tire and loose debris Hot Tar excetera have caused her control issues. We need something with a wider front tire. And my bike is an 06 Yamaha 650 that is just not up to doing high speeds and long travel.

I just google what’s available and try to find a good supplier but mostly ive ordered directly from manufacturers- memphis shades, joker machine, koso. Revzilla is a pretty good canadian supplier too. Im a big fan of jay fast, a motovlogger from bc. He has the same bike and does a lot of videos. Usually before i manage to film one he does a pretty good version on any topic i was interested in. He’s sort of knocked the wind outta my sails. Lol. He does a lot of work himself and does great video edits so you can get a feel for what things look like and how the bike comes apart / goes back together
After having your MS cafe fairing for a while would you say you're still happy with it or would you have gotten a different style, maybe gauntlet or road warrior?
Hey gil, thats a good question but i think it really is a matter of personal preference. Im not sure my opinion on it matters much. I definitely like the cafe. Indian has recently come out with some bigger fairing that sort of resembles The gauntlet - personally I don’t like them but only because it’s a bobbed bike and a minimalist look is important to me. Im willing to bet a big fairing with my heated grips would make it a lot nicer to ride longer and at night though.

Ya absolutely, you can adjust them to give you a straight up and down posture, or slight lean. I like the look of the straight stock bars but don’t prefer them comfort wise

Andy J. I can’t make a case for one over another, they’re very different bikes. Triumph makes great bikes, if Indian hadn’t relaunched so recently my first was probably going to be a triumph. I did read an article after i purchased it comparing the scout, harley and triumph bobber. Of the bobber models the scout had the most power but for other reasons I cannot remember it was a toss up between the triumph and scout. Good luck! Try test riding everything you can. See what you like the best. At the end of the day its about how you feel on it. If you do go with any model of scout there is a great motovlogger named jay fast that does a video on almost everything you can imagine doing to the bike to customize it or do maintenance. He’s out of British Columbia.
James Thomas, dude what are talking about? This Man lives in Canada with harsh riding conditions. When you see a bike that looks like this,it means one thing,he rides in some bad ass weather when wimps like you are polishing your Vespa in June in Miami waiting for warm weather.
KentAllard ive seen that as well, but only in older videos. I believe because it was a known issue they have improved the quality control on it. You can see i installed the Memphis shades turn signal relocation kit for the fairing - that kit also corrects the problem (if you have it) because the kit replaces the factory brackets. It is also possible to just remove the brackets and install something underneath them like tape. But while mine was setup standard from the factory - i never had that issue
Hi. Great video. One of the better ones out there. I have few questions about the cafe fairing. How good does it protect from a wind. I’m shopping for one right now. You did say it protects the upper body, how tall are you? I’m 5’6. I wonder if it will protect the head as well.
As i said in the video it doesn’t stop the wind from hitting your face or hands, it just makes a difference in how much the wind blows on your chest. Overall i feel it helps with highway driving and long distances
It sucks. I have gotten used to it so its better than it was when i first got it - if anyone is considering a similar seat i would recommend a good springer seat from a third party. It is a cool looking seat tho... lol

Christopher Artibee if you do purchase a bike you should talk to an existing owner and get a referral code. Indian has a program where you both get $250 if you use their referral code. You can do it anytime in the year you buy the bike. If you need one let me know. Its a good deal, gets you a nice helmet and gloves or whatever.
dryphillogic Hey they are the 10” mini ape hangers that indian offers as an option. The exhaust is actually the stage 1 exhaust as well. The audio in the vid doesn’t do it justice but on the other hand, at some point i may try some louder pipes
That’s Indians side saddlebag, they have them at the dealership. It’s smaller on the inside than it appears to be but its good for holding some basic tools, id, a change of clothes like a shirt or glasses. Doesn’t hold much more than that though
For long trips the better choice is the regular scout. I probably still would have gone with the bobber but its not as practical having a rooster tail of water shooting up your spine everywhere wet that you go. If i was to set one up for long trips i would get a regular scout, heated corbin seat, third party bags because indians bags are tiny - and put on heated grips. Im not sure where i saw them but you can get large leather saddle-style bags hanging on both sides of rear fender that hold enough to make it like a bagger. I don’t know what the performance shocks would feel like but the suspension is something i haven’t had any issues with. If you try a good cushion seat on the regular scout with its suspension (1” higher than the bobber) i think you would find it pretty comfortable. Im just guessing though. Depending on what you want though upgrading to their bigger models might make more sense. Like the Springfield or chieftain with their bigger engines and weird options (like firing only 1 cylinder on idle to keep heat off your nuts) I like the simplicity of the scout, if it could have less sensors and lose a little efficiency i would be all for that. I want something that lasts forever and i always think the more computers and electronics something has the more time its going to spend getting repaired.

Drew Dough i really like it, tbh i thought id take it off a lot and just put it on for longer rides but I actually never take it off. Its just personal preference though, the cafe doesn’t change the feel of the bike - but does help on the highway.
Well the wind still hits your face, it just seems overall to be reduced. If you’re looking for a significant reduction they have larger models that are meant to deflect from the face and head better.
Do you find it hard reaching the handle bars? I want to sit between a 90 and 45 degree angle. I'm not sure if I have to modify the handle bar to go closer or if I should get a seat that pushes me up a little bit.
Well you can see i have indians mini ape hanger bars, that was how i picked the bike up originally. They allow you to sit up more straight, as do the reduced reach bars. I found the stock regular bars felt a little weird for me - but i have a funny body shape as well. Short legs, tall upper body.

Those handle bars are horrible that faring doesn’t look good maybe because those ugly handle bars and that seat doesn’t look good at all. Hey everyone has their own ideas about what they want. Everything you mentioned that you don’t like except that fairing are stock options from indian. Those are their handlebars, that’s their solo saddle seat. And none of it with the exception of the fairing are things i recommend in the video. Indian has a fairing similar to that too. It can be stock if you ask for it. Since you didn’t watch the video and apparently don’t even own one - ill just explain that i never mentioned any of that because those aren’t even mods i made. That’s the bike as it came stock from the dealer. The mods I recommend, for people that watch the video, are more about making the bike work better for the individual that owns it. Not trying to make it look a certain way. You would have to.... watch the video..... to know that though.

I have the scout 60 and I'm on my 3rd plate because they kept breaking. I'm waiting for a mount that goes on the shock

Absolutely not. I’ve done it but you’re better off going for something with padding or a true springer

Where is the Saddlebag from?
That’s Indians side saddlebag, they have them at the dealership. It’s smaller on the inside than it appears to be but its good for holding some basic tools, id, a change of clothes like a shirt or glasses.
Doesn’t hold much more than that though
Do you recommend for regular long trips? How is the suspension? Any thoughts on the Indian® Performance Shocks By Fox® - Black
For long trips the better choice is the regular scout. I probably still would have gone with the bobber but its not as practical having a rooster tail of water shooting up your spine everywhere wet that you go. If i was to set one up for long trips i would get a regular scout, heated corbin seat, third party bags because indians bags are tiny - and put on heated grips. Im not sure where i saw them but you can get large leather saddle-style bags hanging on both sides of rear fender that hold enough to make it like a bagger.
I don’t know what the performance shocks would feel like but the suspension is something i haven’t had any issues with. If you try a good cushion seat on the regular scout with its suspension (1” higher than the bobber) i think you would find it pretty comfortable. Im just guessing though.
Depending on what you want though upgrading to their bigger models might make more sense. Like the Springfield or chieftain with their bigger engines and weird options (like firing only 1 cylinder on idle to keep heat off your nuts)
I like the simplicity of the scout, if it could have less sensors and lose a little efficiency i would be all for that. I want something that lasts forever and i always think the more computers and electronics something has the more time its going to spend getting repaired.

Drew Dough i really like it, tbh i thought id take it off a lot and just put it on for longer rides but I actually never take it off. Its just personal preference though, the cafe doesn’t change the feel of the bike - but does help on the highway.

Well the wind still hits your face, it just seems overall to be reduced. If you’re looking for a significant reduction they have larger models that are meant to deflect from the face and head better.
Do you find it hard reaching the handle bars? I want to sit between a 90 and 45 degree angle. I'm not sure if I have to modify the handle bar to go closer or if I should get a seat that pushes me up a little bit.
Well you can see i have indians mini ape hanger bars, that was how i picked the bike up originally. They allow you to sit up more straight, as do the reduced reach bars. I found the stock regular bars felt a little weird for me - but i have a funny body shape as well. Short legs, tall upper body.

They’re different mirrors. They were actually part of the dealerships mods to this bike before sale. I bought a floor model

Haha. Well it was 2018. I did ride my friends honda 250 when we were kids, and tried other bikes out over the years. I was going to buy a Kawasaki Vulcan as my first bike but the deal fell through and i got sick of waiting for something good on the used market i would have to pay full price for up front - so instead i got the scout, my dream bike - on financing.

Man what did you did to that motorcycle? Is so much better looking stuck. Those handle bars are horrible that faring doesn’t look good maybe because those ugly handle bars and that seat doesn’t look good at all. The only thing I’m going to change in my is the exhaust because is to long and ugly. The only thing I like from you modifications or accessories is the single saddle bag
Hey everyone has their own ideas about what they want. Everything you mentioned that you don’t like except that fairing are stock options from indian. Those are their handlebars, that’s their solo saddle seat. And none of it with the exception of the fairing are things i recommend in the video. Indian has a fairing similar to that too. It can be stock if you ask for it.
Since you didn’t watch the video and apparently don’t even own one - ill just explain that i never mentioned any of that because those aren’t even mods i made. That’s the bike as it came stock from the dealer.
The mods I recommend, for people that watch the video, are more about making the bike work better for the individual that owns it. Not trying to make it look a certain way. You would have to.... watch the video..... to know that though.
