I’d choose the Honda-e because it’s so much more quirky & has so much more character. The ID3 is too vanilla and would go unnoticed, however, if practicality is what you ‘need’ then of course, it’s the obvious choice. For a 2nd runaround fun car, a car I’d look fwd to driving in, it’s going to be the Honda.

I was behind a Honda E in my old Jazz the other day. Instant torque saw it disappear into the distance. However, when I do eventually buy an EV, it's more likely to be something like the ID3, range, and other stuff. The E is another of those deliberately quirky, kooky designs that looks cute on first acquaintance, but I suspect would become irritating after a while. Thomas could do a review of the road surface and make it sound interesting, so as usual, fab review.

I have the Honda e and don't live in a city, slightly taller than yourself and don't knock the seat heater switch, was looking at id3 in UK but options restricted at the time for UK market the e has 28.5 kWh usable battery so almost half the size of the id3 so range will be smaller which I can easily live with, dead handy for squeezing through tight gaps and a breeze to park at work in our tight parking slots. Chose it over the mini, call me nuts I love mine.

The volume knob is on the passenger side and far from the driver, so that's weird. The audio controls are also facing upwards it seems. Weird. All those buttons on the console for drive modes are too much. It could be simplified and also moved to the dash or steering wheel so you don't have to look down. I like the interior styling - it reminds me of 80's Hondas.

The Honda E with a bigger battery and faster AC-Charging would be my dream car.... Okay at the moment I driving my nearly-dream car 😅
But why the Honda not in that absolut beautiful Thomas-Blue color? It fits so much to the car. In white, it looks a bit like its from Apple not from Honda.
The spacey turn signal can be adjusted. Standard is the normal blinker tone 1 and then there are the strange blinker tones 2 and 3. A previous reviewer probably changed something ;-)
I can't quite agree with you with the conclusion: For me, pure city cars are e.g. the Smart ED or the Renault Twingo Electric, as these have no CCS charging option. For me, the E is a car for short and medium journeys with the option of occasional long journeys once or twice a year, which of course requires more time.

At the beginning of this video I was very scared. I have already signed a lease for a Honda e. I am not sure about the range yet. I have to commute 45 km to and back from work. That's a pretty sizeable commute, but it seems even in the winter I will be able to make the round trip without a charge. I will have a charging station at work and at home so seems like its a non issue. This will be my first e car though. So maybe I am in for a rude awakening. Similar to how cell phones always say they will get 48 hrs, but the barely get 10.
Other than that I am much more attracted to all the nifty tech stuff that is on the e as apposed to the ID3 and since its a one passenger commuter the size is better as well. It just needs enough room to fit me, and it does.

I like Thomas' reviews. Somehow the VW wins this common people comparsion of the range etc. But and there is a big but. Honda E has won more or less all important design prizes last year. Like Womens prize of the year and the Red Dot award +++. Then there is the range. Honda says you don't need more. I totally agree. Having a 220km range is less damaging and destructive to the enviroment. So I am very happy with my Honda E top model with double 17" gas hob winter wheels. Previews earlies by Thomas reviews made me choose the honda E in addition to the prototype. For me the worst diffrence from the prototype change was the drop-out of the backhinges doors. And of course there are a lot of advtange details like : heated windshield automatic parking etc. pluss plus and the comments of people. (hello from Oslo and pardon my english)

The concept car has been designed after the production design was made. Therefore, the concept had a more refined design in my opinion. Hopefully, they will release a Honda-e type R with the concept design one day :) The issue with the 220km range is not the 220km but the fact that you will get closer to 100km on a highway during winter. Moreover, bigger battery future proofs the car better. If 100km are fine when new it will drop to 80% within 10 years, so a 10 year old car will do 80km which might be not enough anymore. Meanwhile, if you have 400km range and it will drop to 350 within 10 years, it won't bother you as much. The battery range might define how long a car will remain relevant. You won't like it as much when it will do 50km per charge, which might be the case in 20 years :)

A bit of a bad comparison to me , the Honda is a city no doubt and for me the bmwi3 wins that, the id3 is a fantastic car for the range but it doesn’t come with heat pump as standard which seems tight move from VW , the VW seats look poor quality as well for the hard plastic usage, the buttons or lack of buttons are a bad move and to me having to use your touch screen to adjust the heating/cooling should be illegal probably more distracting then using a mobile phone, which this you will find illegal in most countries around the world. The window buttons is again a bad choice from VW having to press a button to go from rear to front adjustment. The idea of the speed and other info attached to the steering is fantastic so who ever is driving this will always have access to see the speed and other info, in my bmw I cannot see the bottom part due to steering wheel been in the way.

We have this technology for like what, I think it's 15 years ago, when they showed a first concept car with cams instead of mirrors. Yet the car industry still uses these big windbrakes. Bad for consumption and noise. The only thing with the honda, the steering wheel is a bit uninspired. But atleast no bs capacitive buttons.
