    i whollllyy support making lots of small games vs going right into the dream game (despite not necessarily doing it myself...) but maybe Im confused or ha I dont know any better - but so far, Ive set up multiplayer movement without any 3rd party plugins using just blueprints and it works pretty solidly. But your use might be far more specific?

    Good luck man!! making games is hella fun, multiplayer can be super hard. The built in character movemnt component actually does include all required client side prediction etc, and there are a few tutorial online about how to add extra replicated functions like sprinting and mantling. a couple days extending the character movement component in c++ can save you the cost of the general movement component. You could also use smooth sync, which is free.

    sorry but unreal is not made for solo dev... you can try godot + jolt ...

    • @anOccasionalGamer
      @anOccasionalGamer  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There are a lot of indie games made in unreal engine. I’m really taking a liking to Godot but honestly, no matter what engine you pick. Making games independently is challenging.

    • @tinyblue42
      @tinyblue42 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I disagree, Unreal is definitely made for solo devs. It has so many features right out of the gate that you would have to code from scratch in another engine. I have been using unreal solo for years, and I have tried Unity, CryEngine, Lumberyard, Unigine, and Godot. Unreal has the most intuitive workflow for me. Blueprints, make new Blueprint nodes easily in c++, visual material editor, advanced animation tools, robost sound tools, probably the most advanced real time GI and virtualized geometry tech, etc... As a solo dev, I can't afford to hire a team to build me the tools that unreal already has. I want to make a game, not spend half my time extending the engine to do what I want it to.

    • @anOccasionalGamer
      @anOccasionalGamer  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@tinyblue42 unreal is a really powerful engine and there are a lot of useful features as you mentioned! I also enjoy unreals a workflow. But I guess it just comes down to preference.

    Ahh yes, The dreaded wall stump of learning how to code a game -> wanting to add MP -> see that nothing that you learn port well to network environment -> scratch idea.
    On a real note. I dont use UE, i wrote my voxel engine from scratch and Photon multiplayer layer looks promising in taking the burden from me

    • @anOccasionalGamer
      @anOccasionalGamer  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I guess this part of indie game dev is pretty universal 🤣
      What kind of game are you making? Also, I just looked into Photon multiplayer and I’m really impressed. It definitely simplifies the process of making multiplayer games 🔥

    • @fueledbycoffee583
      @fueledbycoffee583 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@anOccasionalGamer Yes! i am looking at all alternatives right now.
      I am not making any actual game. I am experimenting with pushing javascript / WebGPU and doing procedural voxel rendering on solar system scale (Render a solar system with planets made up of voxels and said planets have a procedural surface).
      I wanted to add a network layer to it just for the lols (Maybe a voxel space game emerge from it? XD).
      The thing is that i want to add Networking. Photon engine is an option. Documentation for web libraries is not stelar so maybe i'll just write my own. I am puting my eyes right now on Nim lang as backend since it has a similar syntax to python which i use in my daily job, matched with the speed of Rust / C / C++

    I'm literally in the exact same situation as you with the General Movement Component. I'm honestly shocked Unreal doesn't have better Native Multiplayer replication. The current system is so limited, and I'm not good at coding, so I really need that sort of thing in blueprint.

    • @anOccasionalGamer
      @anOccasionalGamer  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Trust me 😓 I guess the only work around is to learn a bit of c++ but I know that’s pretty daunting for new programmers. If your game isn’t fast pace and not PvP then you can give the Smooth Sync plug-in a shot 👊🏽

    • @RanmanLive
      @RanmanLive 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@anOccasionalGamer Yeah! I've actually used Smooth Sync before, and it's decent. I tried to learn some C++ but Client Side Prediction is extremely difficult.
      My current project is very fast paced, so I pretty much have to invest into General Movment Component. Luckily I think it'll more than fit my needs, it's just expensive, but hopefully a huge time saver, and all in blueprint.

    I'm sorry to hear you're struggling, but the statement about replicating movement via a paid plugin is incorrect. There are tons of tutorials around how it works, simply but when you move actually what you're doing in most cases is firing an event on keypress, events typically run on the server - then with your variables set to replicate properly the server will change, for example, "isRunning" which in turn will affect your animations on the client.
    I wouldn't recommend switching to another engine to get round this, UE5's basic networking setup is actually very easy compared to others.
