I watched a "worst baby shower gift" video I was so sad to see that "homemade" "handmade" baby items were really put down and viewed in a negative way. These are absolutely beautiful!!!! I made my friend a custom diaper bag and it was the hit of the shower! Thank you for these videos they are so inspiring :)

I have seen that video also. I think they were trying to be funny and missed the mark. The examples they gave were poorly made/beginner projects that weren't useful, not beautiful heirloom items or useful well made gifts, or at least that is how I interpreted it.

I say there is a difference between homemade and handmade. The last being nicer. I, too, make all of my gifts. Hey...we could have got them NOTHING! LOL

Thanks for another great video! I've actually made a few burp cloths and had a couple of tips that I use. I use slightly rounded corners on both fabrics-makes turning right side out a little easier, no points to fuss with and stack multiple layers of both backing fabric and top fabric so you can use your cutting mat and rotary cutter to make the process a little quicker. I would cut backing fabric in one stack and cute front fabric in another. Happy stitching!

I have another great idea to use them for! If anyone gets irritated with the sharp edges of an attached car seat belt, place one of these cloths between your body and the seat belt, it really helps! I lined mine with a soft thick fleece.

For burp cloths, I like 100% cotton absorbent cloth, I often order burp cloths at Amazon DEFONO store, 6 layers muslin cloth can absorb any mess in seconds, protects from sniffles, drips, drools, and water. I hope it helps you. amzn.to/2Plg3YX

Fabric lines come and go so quickly, it wouldn't be helpful for long to know exactly what fabric line she used. Plus this fabric might have been in her stash for months and the line is no longer available. Just use whatever 100% cotton quilting fabric looks good to you and you can't go wrong. :)

Great class! So jazzed to start this project!
Do you recommend washing fabrics first? Maybe, first do a quick stitch around the chenille to prevent fraying first. I’m worried about the cotton and chenille shrinking differently .

Homemade has come a long way. There are so many great products out there now to use to make gifts, and tons of videos of 'how to's'...tips and tricks etc.....The key is to use good quality products, make gifts people can actually use, and take your time making it.

Dana I made these this evening! I feel like I can’t cut a straight line to save my life, but they turned out good, considering I don’t ever get to sew and I don’t know a lot about sewing. I like doing it, after I get passed all the cutting. 😂 I love your tutorials. Their great, thank you! Oh and I also used terry fabric because that’s all we have in our town unless I order online or drive 1.5 hours to Reno. I’m going to try using the chenille next go around.

Hi there, thanks so much :) Typically I pre-wash fabrics so they shrink before I sew them into something...but in this instance, I don't like to do that, because I like how the two layers of the burp cloth look when they "shrink up" together the first time....kind of like making a quilt. :) Hope that helps! Love the video, love your energy. amazon's price for the terry fabric is outrageous. Much cheaper at Joann. But thanks for the video. Left a Like. :)

Do you wash fabric first ? I’m very new to sewing! I love the way you teach could you possibly make a video on how to make a towel bib? The kind that pull over the head

Yes, typically I pre-wash fabrics so they shrink before I sew them into something...but in this instance, I don't like to do that, because I like how the two layers of the burp cloth look when they "shrink up" together the first time....kind of like making a quilt. :)
      Hope that helps! Dana

Hi Dana, love your videos. I'm still pretty new to sewing. I was wondering can you sew with knit and terry chenille. I have a lot of knit fabric and I just order chenille. Also, do I need to prewash these fabrics first. Thank you for your time. Pam

Hi Pam, Yes, you can use knits or terry chenille for the backing, or terry cloth! Just keep in mind that knit fabrics have a tendency to stretch, so you'll want to be very careful not to stretch the fabric as you sew. If you've never sewn with knits before I have a great video you might watch first:

Would soft flannel be good for these burp cloths, vs quilting cotton?
