My dad has been collecting Folio Society books for about 20years now. He has literally hundreds of them and they're all beautiful. My own collection is more modest at about 20 (so far). Still the favourite books I own are the Lord of the Rings set that my dad bought me for my birthday many years ago
I just went to a huge used book sale, and found a Folio Society book with slipcase about Leonardo da Vinci. It's in amazing condition, and I got it for $4. I was going to make it a Christmas gift but I think I'll keep it. 😆
They have so many nice editions! I definitely have my eye on Dune and Dune Messiah. I also want Dracula, A Christmas Carol, and Neverwhere. Too many nice ones and not enough moolah lol. I do wish they would do Hyperion Cantos. I would be all over that.

I have 4 books from Folio and I love them all! (Frankenstein, Ubik, Childhood’s End, and Cat’s Cradle) Although I think I would prefer it if they were all the same height haha
Yes! I’ve been patronizing Folio Society for a long time. My personal favorite is their edition of Neverwhere. I’m with you, I want those Christies and Christmas may finally be the time for those. What I really need from them though is a reprint or new set of the Poirot short stories. A new three book set would be perfect. My one complaint, the ultra high end edition they did if Beowulf is incredible but couldn’t they have also released an edition, in line with their standard quality, for the rest of us?
I love the books, my only problem with FS is that I think they employ geographical pricing essentially charging people more for the same product based on where they live. I see that they divide their website into versions with pricing that varies by location. I'm not aware of other British companies that do this. I'm not sure that it can be argued that the difference is for shipping, since that is charged separately. I like the idea of charging all customers the same price. A teacher who buys an FS book in Canada should not have to pay more for the same book purchased by a member of the House of Lords in Britain.
Great video and great taste in books! I like hearing about the quality and detail and size discrepancies. I have lurked the FS for so long. I can’t get myself to get any yet due to the cost. I know the quality justifies it but I can get 3 books for the price of one FS. You should pick up Jurassic Park and The Lost World!

Such an addiction, aren't they? I bought my first folios back in 2016 when they still had a physical store in London, and haven't looked back ever since. Secondary market is nuts: you can get books for chips but you can also get crazy prices like The Shining or the Ishiguro books not in print. May I suggest The Book of the New Sun? The current edition they have is not as high quality as the Limited they sold when Wolfe still lived (and which I would have bought if I had read the book back then), but it's beautiful and it's the same artist from Dune.
What are their shipping costs like to the US. Been thinking about getting some, but I know they’re UK based, so don’t want to pay an arm and a leg for shipping.

I agree - Folio Society is the gold standard. I only own one at the moment as the price point is just above what I'm normally willing to pay, but I'm sure I'll pick up some of my favorites in the future.

The size difference for siplay is also the only thing that bugs me about them. having a uniform book collection is just so satisfying

Shipping isn’t cheap about $10 per book
Not as bad as I expected, honestly. I’ve bought coins from the Royal Mint Monnaie de Paris, and shipping was at least $20.
